View Full Version : Who hates the cup holder swing lid?
bruceleroy 01-09-2009, 03:34 PM Mine is sweaking like a bitch over every little bump. And when you squeeze the sides of it checking for thickness you can tell its made by really cheapo plastic and its hallow inside. I just got back from Honda and they are ordering me a new one hopefully its better. If not i just have to take it apart and put foam all over inside to make it stronger.
:dunno: :thumbsdow
Its a retarded design. The lid mounted holders aren't snug and when small objects are in there, the lid pins them down.
Artie 01-09-2009, 06:17 PM The other day I puyt my cell phone in the cup holder and closed the lid.
Then I couldn't open the lid.
Took me 10 minutes to get my cell phone out.
Really makes you feel like a retard.
8thGenInspire 01-09-2009, 06:44 PM eh i'm ok with it... almost got my cellphone stuck too haha
09 ACCORD COUPE 01-09-2009, 07:08 PM The only minor annoyance with mine is when I run my aux cable to my itouch and put it in the cup holder, it doesn't close all the way...:dunno:
Aside from that It doesn't irk me that much.
bruceleroy 01-09-2009, 08:14 PM does any of yours creek during bumps? or when you squeeze the lid?
Mine acts fine, i only use it for what it is designed for, holding drinks :) there are 98232 other pockets for cellphones/etc
bruceleroy 01-09-2009, 09:18 PM i have a PDA with a QWERTY keyboard and i like putting it on the cup holder haha
morcheez 01-09-2009, 09:40 PM mine doesnt do anything to annoy me ...but after reading this im sure it will start doing something stupid tomorrow...thanks
Drowzee 01-09-2009, 09:46 PM I still haven't found a good place to put a cellphone in the car. I don't put it in the cupholder cause I have other stuff in there and if you put it in the door panel, it causes a rattle...
Honda247 01-09-2009, 09:56 PM I like it. A 20oz or liter bottle of diet coke fits perectly. This the reason i bought the car.... lol
namegoeshere 01-09-2009, 10:01 PM Mine is sweaking like a bitch over every little bump....

like plastic rubbing plastic sounds, same sound it makes when you squeeze the the sides of it or is it just me
AznX TL 01-09-2009, 11:47 PM i put my blackberry in the little cubby hole under the radio.
i dont believe i ever closed my cup holder door though, i usually leave it open all the time.
victorden 01-10-2009, 12:13 AM i leave mine open also.
shamutruck 01-10-2009, 04:21 AM I had the phone issue too, drove me crazy for about 10 minutes.:lmao:
no noises tho.
1stHondasofar.. 01-10-2009, 05:43 AM i alwwwwwwwwways keep my cell phone in my crotch.....i can see the screen light up if someone calls and Im blasting the horrible stereo, windows down etc....also, the vibrate features makes me randy...., this icon is called "nuts." how apporpriate i thought....
LateNites 01-10-2009, 11:34 AM does any of yours creek during bumps? or when you squeeze the lid?
Bruce, I haven't had a problem with creeking or any other noise coming from mine. Try to figure out what is causing it to creek and lube that section, or if you happen to be going to the dealer anytime ask them to look at it.
Yung_Melo 01-10-2009, 12:11 PM I normally put my PDA phone in the short side of the cup holder and I have no issues with it. It doesnt sqweak or anything else like that but then again when is my music under 30 for me to hear any sqweaking? hmmm i digress

A few people on this forum complain about road noise, rattling or squeeking... My music is ALWAYS on when I drive my car... I don't hear road roise, rattling or squeeking even if any of them were present.

Back 70% Front 30%
Treble -2

The stereo sounds halfway decent like this... I feel bad for the people sitting in the back though
BACK TO THE TOPIC... I have no idea why there is a swing lid unless someone doesn't want to use the cup holders or want to hide something underneath
BTW as a disclaimer...I can hear sirens and beeps
needforaccord 01-10-2009, 12:30 PM ... I don't hear road roise, rattling or squeeking.
Volume 35...
I don't hear my car's rattles and road noise too whenever you drive with the stereo on ...
trainchaser 01-10-2009, 01:08 PM ...just one more on the plus side for the 7th gen, no lid to get in the way and the little BMW like tensioners work oh so well...
...now I'll run and try to dodge the flames...hehe!

Apple47 01-11-2009, 05:50 PM I miss the spring-loaded cup-holder lid that was in the 5th generation Accord. If my hands were full, and had a drink in one hand, I could just bang the lid with the drink and it would pop open.
This version cupholder lid traps my work badge inside frequently. Annoying.

I noticed my center console squeaking/creaking a few months ago. Although for me it's the sliding handrest that does it. I just attributed it to the cold winter months because it didn't start until late November.

Hm.....Any others practice this type of holding the cell phone? :naughty:
Learn something new every day!
bruceleroy 01-12-2009, 02:04 PM i guess im the only one with sweaking lid, i told the dealer to order me a new piece hopefully that fixes it. also the sweaking sounds only occur on the lid when its open, when its closed nothing.
next_milenium 01-12-2009, 02:11 PM I wonder if you can use some type of lubricant in the hinges?
bruceleroy 01-12-2009, 02:18 PM maybe not sure tho, im just gonna let them replace it first and see then, if it still happens then ill take it apart and lube the whole thing with KY Jelly stupid POS

Yeah, I do that too with my phone....I always have it on vibrate (because I can't hear it over the radio/open window/etc.) and can't keep it in my pants when sitting in the driver's seat so I jam it between my legs so that I can feel it when someone calls.
...now that I re-read that it doesn't sound too good...:dunno:
itstheo54 01-12-2009, 06:18 PM why do people put their phones in teh cup holder, i just stick it in the empthy compartment in front of the shifter with the pad on the bottom of it that way i can keep the cupholders closed
bruceleroy 01-12-2009, 06:34 PM well i put it in the cupholder because when i get a phone call i can just glance at who is calling me before i pick up with the bluetooth.
cubanoconhonda 01-13-2009, 07:00 AM Yeah the shallow cup holder is where my iphone lives. I can hear it clearly and the cup holder lid hasn't caught on it yet.
tnel2005 01-13-2009, 09:21 AM i like it when it is shut i think it looks nice with less clutter, BUT i have done the same thing by putting somthing in there and then it took me a while to open it back up.... :(
bruceleroy 01-13-2009, 09:37 AM no dont get me wrong i love how it looks when its closed but when open it just makes noise. :(
bruceleroy 01-23-2009, 04:49 PM about to pick up my car since they just replaced the cup holder. cross fingers the cheaponess is gone
honda761 01-23-2009, 04:56 PM The 8th 's dash design is bizarre. No room for belongings in the compartment below the radio while the 7th gen has lots of space. I dont know who designed that.
bruceleroy 01-23-2009, 05:50 PM sweet just got the car back they replaced the swing lid and the noise is gone now, feels alot more solid. awesome
itsjO 01-23-2009, 06:51 PM sweet just got the car back they replaced the swing lid and the noise is gone now, feels alot more solid. awesome
swing Lid: "how do you like me now..?"
Hondaboy9602 01-23-2009, 07:10 PM What's the cup holder lid design like in the 8th generation? I can't remember what it was like when I looked at the 8th gen.

I think Cessna or the Transformer engineering dept. had a go with it. Both the Coupe and Sedan are very eclectic.
As far as the stupid cell phone. Mine is turned off most of the time while driving. Then I ignore it the rest of the time. My daughters on the other hand are cell phone whores.
Accourse 01-23-2009, 07:51 PM I'm more bothered by the center console. Is there a way to lock that thing down so it doesn't slide back and forth under your forearm? Also, the top tray seems poorly designed, always popping out, although it's the right size to store and hide my GPS from view
zexen 01-23-2009, 08:50 PM sweet just got the car back they replaced the swing lid and the noise is gone now, feels alot more solid. awesome
could it maybe be something that the 08's had but the 09's were changed? because my lid feels very solid and didn't feel like i could squeeze it. it is very direct in how it moves and snaps into place very strongly and holds very well. my girlfriend's dog even walks on it without problems lol.

could have been but im not totally sure. im happy with it now tho
Gosha 01-23-2009, 09:11 PM guys to fix the sliding armrest and for it to stop making noise you have to buy some frostking black weather foam and place it directly underneath the 2 little sliders that hold the lid down, i did just that and its solid as a rock you cant even move it, and 0 noise, but you gotta buy the thic kblack kind, about half of inch in diameter
zexen 01-23-2009, 09:33 PM My sliding armrest is firm as a rock. it's stiffer than the one I had on my TL, and that one kept me satisfied. I have to tug hard on mine to move it forward. Not sure about noise though. All the threads and posts about squeaks and rattles has got me so paranoid I'm listening for them all the time now, but so far so good

walhaddi 01-23-2009, 10:00 PM Ok, this is what I found out today about the cup holder lid. I kept my car in the garage for like 2 weeks without driving it (Traveling), but I went in it today. I opened the lid and saw like an oily residue on the cup holder (Not the lid but the other part) and it was in the shape of the bumpers. I was like "What the hell is this?" I looked on the bumpers and they had this oily residue all over them. It is as if the glue used to stick them to the lid melted, but the temperature in the garage was around 20 F. Don't know what the hell that was and I know it wasn't dirt, pop, or anything like that because I never used the cup holder for the past 2-3 months. Weird though.
I am thinking about just buying any type of black foam or any type of cushion or rubber and puting it inside the cupholders, armrest and those small bins under the radio. You put any object in there and drive and it will make all type of rattles.
By the way, I keep my cell phone just on top of the bin (closed off course)under the radio. My cell phone has this rubbery backcover so it doesn't slip at all.
