View Full Version : A CR-V "thing"
princess 05-21-2005, 06:55 AM Yesterday my prince had CR-V at work with a strange thing going on.... if you went on a down hill then it got a weird noise that would last for 5-6 miles AFTER it was done with the hill..... it was a metallic noise.
After an hour of checking it out, it was discovered the motor mount on one side lost all it's clearance when going down hill..... he simply losened up both sides & scrooched the engine over a bit. Tightened everything up just right & it was gone on the test drive!
Then later the car came back..... he, of course, was thinking "now what?"... since he was so sure he'd solved the problem....
The owner was insisting on talking to the tech that fixed his car.......
He walked up, shook his hand & said he'd been to 3 different dealers, spent hundreds & no one had found the problem. He wanted to personally thank the one that did.
We're always quick to gripe when somethings not done or done wrong, but it was sure nice to get a compliment! It made his day!! :)
stevel 05-21-2005, 06:59 AM I love owner's like that. congrats to the prince.

I think we'll all gladly allow you to have him first - your car needs him the most haha
stiller fan 05-21-2005, 11:03 AM :lmao: i know..... :(
princess 05-23-2005, 11:19 AM It has happened to him a few times....
When we moved here from Stockton, some of the Lodi Honda customers followed him for a while & some of them were from Sacramento!
The same day as this CR-V thing one of the advisors said his name was brought up in their meeting.... the head boss of the whole service dept. said he was "the 'epitomy' of what a tech SHOULD be". Pretty cool! He sticks to it until he finds what's wrong or can confirm it's just part of the characteristics of the car. Some of the guys give up & he gets it later. Since pay is flat rate, not many want to take the time...but for him, it's a personal challenge when they're more difficult. His boss just can't get over it. One of those things that I've heard others say about him, but he doesn't talk about it. He refuses any reconignition by the company. The watches, rings, etc. are all stuck in a drawer somewhere. Most of the time they sit in his tool box until he needs the room for more stuff....
I'm proud of him..... he won't ring his own bell, that's what I'm for!
You really would like to have him at the dealer you go to..... he's the only one where he's at that gets requested by name.... so many times, in fact, they had to make a rule that it's not allowed. But customers can get around it by saying they'll go elsewhere....
Stiller, I do believe that your car would need to be first! That poor thing is bordering on being abused!! :lmao:
I think next weekend he may attack that Chevy truck in our driveway. Just get that head gasket done so he can rebuild the poor Ody.... At least now he can do in THEIR garage, so my car won't have to sleep outside!!

BLASPHEMY!!!! ;) :joker:
my car is the way it is due to old age...... and occasionally being a bit on the careless side.....
mechanically, it's still in good shape.....body wise, could be better. :)

I'm still gonna go up there when I need some more major work done, like timing belt...haha
stiller fan 05-24-2005, 03:31 PM who knows....if i get stationed in san diego afterschool next year, guess where i'm going????
princess 05-24-2005, 03:40 PM my car is the way it is due to old age...
Naw, we've all seen those mint condition old Accords around....it's not an AGE thing! :D My '86 was still nice & ran perfect..... don't say it's 'cuz I have a tech in the house..... it rarely needed anything!

Come on over! You can request him too. He'd like to meet someone form THIS world. (meaning DA) Just remember those dealer prices are nasty!! :) Sure wish we saw more of it....... :naughty: I think as a general rule the techs would make about a quarter of what is charged.... for labor. At least in that area anyway....

It's about 8 hours from there! Hopefully by then you'll have a newer one for that long trip! Then pop up here for the big stuff BEFORE it gives you problems.

Naw, my friend drove his 93 10th Anniv. Edition up to Tahoe with us recently and it made it just fine. He had a 98 Civic to drive up but deemed it was too small. We place our trust in high mileage Japanese cars :P Unlike that Dodge van tranny with 30K on it that gave out on us in the middle of the I-5 at night on the way to Vegas :thumbsdow

my car runs perfect too......the only things wrong with it are the body, the power steering rack leaking (internally), and the ABS sensor going bad (regardless of make of car).......
i have never abused my car..... i sorta wish people would stop saying that...... most of my miles (about 75-80%) are highway miles, and the majority of those miles have been racked up since i bought the car in '01.....my car has never let me down, and i never expect it to either..... even if i ever win the lottery, i still woill probably keep it for wknd use around town......

ok, i'm done trying to state my case.....agree to disagree i guess......  :blah:
stiller fan 05-24-2005, 03:55 PM the LF headlight has a hole in it due to rocks being picked up from truckers on the highway..... the oil pan is from a "retired honda mechanic" that put in a wrong-sized drain plug.
i don't even think that the head gasket is even leaking either......
not angry, just saying...
princess 05-25-2005, 02:12 PM No offense meant!!!
Maybe abuse isn't the right word.....
I bought my '86 when it had 130K in '95. She got waxed & polished just like if she'd been bought off a lot brand new. Her interior was kept up. When we sold her in '02, they were shocked by the condition..... other than a ding in the corner that was there when we got her, she was near mint! She was my pride & joy & you could tell. Her engine wasn't even dusty.
I guess I get frustrated when age is used as the reason for neglect. When time, money, lack of expertise, not really caring...... would actually be a better description......
I'm sorry if it sounded like I was putting you or your car down.... :sorry:
I meant that maybe you'd be in your newer (as you'd stated your wish was at aome point) Accord before you move. Not that your '93 wouildn't make it out here!
I tease about "Honda Abuse" all the time..... if friends/family don't wash theirs often enough, don't fix a leak, don't have maintaince done...... I even told my mom I'd take back her '95 Accord if she didn't keep it up. She was afraid to tell me when she hit a pole..... I found out when we went down (to AZ) for her wedding! I would've paid her deductable so she could have it fixed!
Anyway..... sorry.....
stiller fan 05-25-2005, 03:35 PM it's cool..... i was getting kinda defensive there.....
apology greatly appreciated.... :)
being single and living in an area where the cost of living is almost double that of norfolk or pit, my paychecks don't get me nearly as far as i'd like......
