View Full Version : can i get a remote starter
mck4000 01-15-2009, 12:15 AM I currently have a 1999 honda accord coupe 6 cylinder and i live in the north i am thinking about buying a remote starter for my car. but first i was wondering can i. is this model car made for a remote starter, and if so what brand and type should i get . And for anyone out there that has had it done or does it for a living about how much can i expect installation to be. because i feel like it will be extremely expensive.
G Stone 01-17-2009, 01:58 PM I believe almost any car can have a remote starter put in it. Just go to best Buy and chack out the prices. I had one put in my previous car and I want to say I paid around $500 for it all. The install takes a long time, especially if someone is doing it the right way (wrapping all the wires, soldering, etc). I believe it took around 8 hours to get it done. It is an all day job.
accord4daddy 01-17-2009, 02:40 PM Honda has a real nice 2 way OEM remote start.
Gen7coupe 01-17-2009, 05:16 PM pretty much any car can have a remote starter. IMO, i like the clifford car alarm/remote stater. you might need a transpoder bypass module for the remote starter part. it simulates your key ONLY during the remote starte so your car will start. i'm in the process of getting my stuff right now for my car alarm/remote starter and my transpoder module. i personally think it's a great investment since you live in the north

accord4daddy 01-18-2009, 01:46 PM I am going to call again and find out.
all22s 01-22-2009, 11:14 AM i have the viper 5701 responder pink on my wife's 98, got the viper responder 5701 on my 99 accord, and have an autopage rs727 lcd on my wifes old 00 accord.
they are a decent install (2-4 hours) if you are mechanically inclined and electronically inclined, i'd say do it yourself. but if not, you can go to viper.com to find a installer that is a licensed seller of their equipment. it shouldn't run more than 500.00 installed (parts and labor)
G Stone 01-23-2009, 09:16 AM You have to really know what you are doing to hook up a remote starter. You have to do more than have hooked up your own cd player or hooked up your own subs. When it comes to cutting, splicing and soldering ignition cables, I prefer to leave that to the experts.

I second that. I have the clifford matrix 50.5x remote start/security system. It gets 5*s from me.
whodisbe 02-07-2009, 07:01 PM I have a compustar (dont remember the model number) on my 98 Accord (5 speed). Love everything about it, except that I foolishly left my headlights on in the morning when I got to work and had a dead battery when I got to the car in the afternoon. Gave my car a boost, and now I need to get the remote starter reprogrammed so I can enjoy a warm car when I get to it each morning.
A&Fbro28 02-09-2009, 08:40 AM Better yet go to your local Circuit City. We had them at ours for 79.99 but we sold out. You'll need to get it installed though at another shop as we're not doing installs in cars anymore.
Gen7coupe 02-10-2009, 09:17 AM i would try ebay too if you know what brand of car alarm/remote starter you want. or the for sale section in this forum or other forums. that's how i got mine ;)
