: gear wont shift and stayed 4000rpm for 5s+
sonnyk88 01-26-2009, 04:48 PM I just wondering... this is normal or not. I was driving home today, at the freeway.. the traffic was slow about 40mph.. then it started to clear up.. I step on gas and it got up to 60mph (rpm is 4000). Usually, it will shift to high gear and bring the rpm 2000 to 3000. But it stayed at 4000 for more 5 second. Then I let go gas, it still stay at 4000 rpm, I give more gas, the rpm just go higher.. Doesn't feel like it wants to shift at all, it just stayed on same gear. But finally, it shifted and back to normal. :dunno:
next_milenium 01-26-2009, 04:52 PM Couple of questions:
1) Was the car cold?
2) When the RPM was going higher, did the car accelerate?
From my experience, if the car is cold, it won't upshift as early as normal. Also, if the RPM was rising but the car didn't accelerate, you might have slipping transmission problem developing.
Big LrG 01-26-2009, 04:52 PM did you accidentaly shift into D3,2,or 1??

I drove it for 30 mins before I saw the problem. So, the car is not cold
I think the car did not accelerate when I push on gas pedal lightly. But I dont think it is slipping, because if it is the RPM wont stayed 4000 when I let go the gas pedal.
I just got the 2dr couple in Dec 2008. i only got 1K. hope it is not a transmission problem
sonnyk88 01-26-2009, 05:00 PM did you accidentaly shift into D3,2,or 1??
I was on D. :)
AgentWashington 01-26-2009, 05:11 PM If it happens again have the dealer take a look, it might be your transmission sensor. Mine blew out at the beginning of last summer or no reason at all and they had to replace the entire ECU.
VTECaddict 01-27-2009, 12:20 AM could be grade logic thought you were going uphill (were you?) and held the lower gear for longer.

You know, speaking of, I accidentally got on the interstate today in D3 :dunno: - I was extremely tired and must have hit it. It was a trip, extremely responsive, I barely tap on the accel and it takes off, just totally torqued out. I didnt notice it right away, it just felt strange, but then after Im zipping around traffic it dawned on me whats going on, I look down and sure enough its in D3...
It felt like it still had some headroom at over 70mph - but I hope I didnt screw anything up!
listen to remix 01-27-2009, 06:54 AM I did the same thing before. However, I knew it put the car in D3 for city driving and then forgot and went on the highway. I was wondering why my RPM was so high until I remembered I limited the car to D3
itstheo54 01-27-2009, 07:19 AM my car does that , but so have my dads bmw'sstay at such high rpm,'s for a long time before shifting

it wasn't on hill, but it is on bridge, no more than 30 degree.
sonnyk88 01-27-2009, 12:06 PM I drove my old accord between D and D3 (Overdrive off) a lot. D3 has more power, I shift it to D3 to zip around the traffic :). So with new Accord instant, I know i was on D, because the 1st thing in my mine about why it does not shift is may be I am on D3, but it is not D3 because I make sure the stick is on right position as well as dash shows D. Also, I can almost tell the computer to shift by let go the gas pedal while you accelerating. at that high rpm (4000) at 60 mile. I would think when you let go the gas it should be shifted, not only that. It stayed there for long time. It just does not feet right. But may be it is by design. Hopefully, it is small bug in computer :).
AznX TL 01-27-2009, 12:17 PM are you sure you weren't partially on D3?
i did that on my old car, i usually rest my hand on the knob and i accidentally had it partially in d3, but the gauges said it was in D and the shifter looked like it was in D, but i pushed up less than 1/4 inch and it engauged into D and shifted down to what it was suppose to finally.

When that happen, i though i was on D3, then i look at the dash, it shows D, also, I moved stick around, make sure it did got clicked in to D position. It was locked in D. You see, I've all this time to checked all those possible cases while it was still on 4000RPM. You can tell how long that was.

DIEGO.RAM 11-15-2010, 06:18 AM I have a 94 accord and have the same problem. But mine will shift up and down for a few mins but it does get to a point where it stays as if it was put on N.The first time this happened was on the highway after about 30 mins of drive as well. I would like to know if it can be something other than a bad tranny.
