Hi everyone, long time reader, 1st time writer. :D

I have a Cr-V question for you, was hoping someone could help me out. My Girlfriend has a 2005 CR-V SE. It came with the XM radio installed, just needs to be activated.

I have a 2005 Accord Coupe and have XM on mine (still on the 3 month freebee period) and was looking to add hers onto my XM account once I have to start paying (You can add a second radio for $6.99),

My question is this, on Xm you tune the radio to channel 0 to get the radio ID # (Which you need to activate the radio) problem is on hers, when you hit the XM button nothing happens, its almost like the radio doesn't know it has XM. Is there a way to turn on this feature (Combo of buttons etc?) or do we have to hit up the dealer? Is there any other way to get the radio ID (its different then the radio serial number)

My thanks in advance for the help!

Mat

Oh - Love the 2005 Coupe!!! My 4th Honda!!

Mat - since you can't access channel 0**, go back to the dealer and have them activate the XM radio for your girlfriend. They did that for me, even before the Internet Manager pointed out all the different options of my 2005 Accord Sedan, ... which included all the XM Radio features. He even set the pre-sets to some of his favorite XM stations!!!

Since the billing period is pro-rated, I would insist once it's activated that the 3-month period starts that day, ... not the day she drove off the lot!

----

**You can change the mode pressing the "CD/AUX (((XM)))" button. It should still be activated, even though you have not subscribed!!!

Try to find the PRE-View XM channel using the SEEK SKIP button, it should be channel "1". If you do, press the "<<TUNE " button to access channel "0".

Hope this helps,
Phil

With my Accord I actually got 5 months free instead of three. I can't remember exactly how that happened, but I remember I got the 3 months free that came with the car, and I got two months for something, I think it was because I couldn't activate online. They even waived the activation fee.

Great deal - 5 months free!!!

FYI: For those that still subscribe to XM Satellite Radio ...

Go to XM Online Radio (http://xmro.xmradio.com/xstream/index.jsp), ... You may be eligible to hear your favorite XM Satellite Radio Channels Online, at no additional charge. Just create an account w/your Radio ID number.

Not all 150+ channels are Online, ... it's around 75 channels, but except for the Old Time Radio channel, ... all my favorite channels are there. You can setup 8 Pre-Set channels easily via the Online menu.

While I was creating a technical Excel spreadsheet document with color digital pic's, ... I was listening to Comedy "Laugh USA" CH 151 and a few times just caught myself from laughing out loud :lmao: (during a Bill Cosby, Steve Allen / Jose Hemenez, Henny Youngman, Jeff Foxworth, ... etc. routines) in a open cubicle office space department!!!

if you activate the additional radio on your account, might be worthwhile to pay for as many years as possible in advance. keeps the monthly rate average the same for that time period regardless how much the subscription increases over the years. paid 5 years upfront for mine and the GF's XM. cost a bit over $600, but its one less monthly bill for the next 5 years.

Thanks to all, she is calling the dealer today to get it switched on.

Looking at the prepay way in advance, my only fear is giving em $600 and what if they go under next year.... but we shall see, I'm going to do at least a year prepayment, so I will see.

My thanks to all. This is a great site, I have been reading for about a month now and this is by far the friendliest and easygoing site I have seen out there!

Matman - If I read the Honda Site right, none of the CRVs come with XM. The SE is XM ready just like my wifes EX-L Ody. Meaning the headunit can display and control the XM receiver if one is added. Hope I am wrong, but that is what I saw. I was looking at the same model before I decided on the Accord.

I think you are right (Which would explain why nothing happens when you hit the Xm buttom) I hit Handaaccessories.com and they have the CR-V XM Tuner Kit which has the missing black box she needs. The Antenna is already wired on the roof, but that box is missing. Will have to hit up the boss and see if she wants to go that route or if my Accord will be the preferred road trip mobile! (Not that it would break my heart!)

Thanks again to everyone for your help!

You may also want to do some research and see if there is an aftermarket kit that would work with the same interface. I know that Terk makes a product called Direct Connect which is a connection box and tuner that interfaces with the HU. This may be cheaper than the OEM unit.

Let me know what you find. I am waiting for a cheaper alternative for our Ody then the OEM unit.

You could get an aux adapter from blitzsafe or soundgate and use that along with a roady, skyfi2, myfi or other aftermarket XM unit.

It won't be as clean as the OEM solution but it will be cheaper.

I really like the idea of the integrated solution with everything in the HU. I have toyed with getting a MY-FI and having that in the car for her and using the portable when I ride my bike. But have read that the reception leaves a little to be desired, so I will be waiting for the 2nd gen of the portables.
