There was one other thread on paint missing from the muffler but it was on a 7th generation - '03 model. The paint has been gradually getting worse for quite a while now & is pretty much gone from my 02 Accord exhaust muffler. Does anyone know of a TSB for this problem? Anyone else notice this on a 6th generation? Was it reported to dealership? Did Honda fix it under warranty?

I dont think the muffler comes painted in any color on the 7th gen accords.

I didn't know ANY of the mufflers were painted.... :dunno: seems like no paint would withstand the temps, road crap, etc......

I've never seen one that was painted anyway....

Now they may be coated with something to prevent rust & that'swearing off...

There's no bulletin for it for any year/model that I see...

Y'all are correct in that they probably aren't painted. I should have said coated. I know better than that b/c I used to work in the pai... uhmm. coatings industry.

There are coatings that will withstand hundreds & even thousands of degrees of heat, acidic fumes, etc. They aren't cheap & don't come in a spray can though! :D

Well, the local dealer repainted the mufflers today with high-temp black paint. They did a good job and it looks much better now. We'll see how long it lasts.
