My Accord has climate control and a "Full Auto" mode. I believe this mode turns on the a/c compressor which reduces gas mileage so I usually have it so the climate control says "a/c off". I also don't truely understand what the auto mode does. I will have it on and my side windows will still fog up completely. Isn't this mode supposed to sense when it needs to turn on the defroster and whatnot? Seems like kind of a waste because when I have on "auto", heat never ever comes out of the middle panel vents. I have to manually switch it so that the heat blows out of those vents. Why is this? Seems like Honda did not get all the kinks worked out of their climate control system.

Even in my 7g, auto does seem to put the AC on at times, not sure if its all the time or not... I run it full auto with AC off.
I highly doubt honda wired in humidistats.
I used to dislike the heat blowing to the dash and feet in "auto" mode, however Ive come to realize it distributes the heat well, and results in less direct dry heat on my face and hands....
matter of preference I suppose.

I also run my gen 7 in auto with "a/c off"
When you drive in cold weather, usually below 38 degrees, the a/c won't run anyway due to low refrigerant pressure in the system.
Whenever you push defrost, the a/c is automatically turned on, if you push the defrost button again, the system should return to its previous settings.
The system won't put heat to the center upper vents, ever, unless you manually put it there. I personally can't stand any drafty feelings so I like the auto's choice. If you set the temp to say 65, once the interior warms to that setting, the system will bleed cooler air to the upper vents to balance the temps. I'm not fond of that, sometimes it feels really cold when it does that.

Hot air rises so the lower vents blow and the air will go up. When the A/C is on the upper vents are used since cold air falls.

Obviously, full-auto mode only works when it's on full auto. If you disable the A/C, or "AC OFF", then you get rid of the systems capability of defrosting the windows.
I use to drive an '02 Accord that had automatic climate control. When the A/C was manually disabled the windows would usually fog up to varying degrees. It's the same way in my '08 Accord.
If you want the system to work and take care of everything you can't intervene, such as disabling the A/C. If you do, then expect to manually control the HVAC system.
