View Full Version : '00 AT problem, maybe?
StepChld 06-07-2005, 09:26 PM I have a '00 4cyl AT Accord (4dr EX) that has a problem I think with the tranny. When pressing on the accelerator at a steady rate, the tranny shifts very hard btwn. 1st and 2nd gear and from 2nd to 3rd gear as well. After that all is fine. What happens is that the RPMs climb and then rev high for a split second and then drop about 1000-1200 RPMs before continuing on at a normal rate in the next gear up. Is this normal?
By the way, my car has 95,000 miles and is "new" to me, only had it about three months.
mucho gracias,
Step
BenjiBoy650 06-07-2005, 09:39 PM Get it into the dealer ASAP, the '00 model has an extended transmission warranty up to 7 years or 100K miles. I'd put my money on a bad transmission, get it in there so they can change it before you cross 100K.
StepChld 06-07-2005, 09:55 PM are you saying that Honda will replace/fix it even if I'm not the original purchaser? (provided I'm in the 7 yr/100k zone) I bought this from an individual, will this make a difference?

according2me 06-08-2005, 01:10 PM First, check your fluid level.
Call Honda Customer support with your VIN# to ease your mind. Than run, don't walk to your dealer. The cost of admission may be for you to pay a small dealer inspection fee, but you'll save $3K-5K!!!!!!!

Yes they will replace it. You might have to fight with them, but you can always try another dealer too.
according2me 06-08-2005, 03:09 PM If it comes to an argument with the dealer, see if the previous owner has any documentation of any transmission fluid changes. Hopefully it has been serviced at least once.
Remember to keep your cool when talking with Honda and/or the dealer. Tell them you're aware of Honda's ongoing issues with this series of trannys and the extended warranty Honda issued to all 2000/01 owners. Good luck and keep your cool, but be determined. Honda should have recalled these units in my opinion.
StepChld 06-15-2005, 09:10 PM Dropped off the Accord today and sure enough it is the transmission that's gone belly-up. And Honda Service said it should be ready in a few days (Friday at the earliest b/c they have to get the tranny). And they didn't even argue about it, Honda's footin' the full bill. In fact they are rather embarassed b/c they didn't have any loaner cars available till later. I told them never mind about that (always extra cars around the house or in-laws for my use) , just call me when ready. They were afraid to let me drive it till the tranny got to them b/c they were afraid the present tranny would die on me. Overall, very nice people and good "no-hassle" warranty.
BenjiBoy650 06-15-2005, 09:18 PM That's great to hear that they were so concerned about you, and rightfully so. The same kind of four speed automatic was in an Odyssey when it suddenly locked up completely at 75MPH - that means the van is still moving while the front wheels are just skidding - and this was in the fast lane. The guy barely got over onto the left shoulder and pulled his whole family out ASAP. Just goes to show ya that it's not something to mess around with and it's good that the dealer actaully gives a care about y'all.
StepChld 06-15-2005, 09:45 PM Well it probably helped that I had just bought a new Ody from them for the wife 2 weeks earlier. Also I had gone to "Honda class" there at the dealership a week ago and the guys in the service area remembered me. And then again, the Accord was from the same dealership, I was just the second owner, the previous owner was my father. :D
Either way, it's all good
princess 06-16-2005, 07:40 AM  great to hear about a decent dealership!!
Pairallel 06-16-2005, 08:26 AM Can you post the dealer name here and in the Dealer Experiences thread to give them so well-deserved credit?
