View Full Version : moonroof
avexnsx 06-09-2005, 09:44 PM Hi all, just wondering if anyone has the same problem...
when i open my moonroof, in either mode, after it's fully opened... i always hear a popping(high-pitched click) noise.. is this normal?
wyang 06-09-2005, 10:09 PM What model Accord do you have? On my 03 Accord Coupe I don't hear anything unusual when the moonroof fully opens.
SSMV6 06-10-2005, 08:51 AM From your other post, I'm guessing it's a '03 I4 EX. I don't have any noise after it's opened either.. The only time I heard anything was when I was opening the sunroof in the winter (below freezing). It made a disgusting squeaking and scraping sound. A trip to the dealer fixed that right away. Now it's a very quiet car. :)
avexnsx 06-10-2005, 09:29 AM yes, ur right... I have an 04 I4 EX sedan...
i guess this calls for another trip to the dealer... they'll probably tell me it's nothing... :paranoid:
jintegra 06-10-2005, 08:29 PM I just tried this on my 04 EX-L, & I have a click when I release the moonroof button. If I hold the button indefinitely, even when the roof is fully opened, there is no click. Once I release the button I hear the click. If this is the click you are refering to, I think it is normal.
SSMV6 06-13-2005, 07:43 AM It could be the sunroof relay click you're hearing, but that relay usually isn't so loud that you can notice it. Just have the dealer check it out for you.
The sunroof motor always have power sent to it when you're holding down the open button.. You do that long enough and you're going to burn out the sunroof motor.

Are you sure about that? If so, wouldn't you burn up the power window motor pretty quick?

Why would you hold down your power window button? I don't have enough hands to have one free to hold down the switches for the hell of it.
avexnsx 06-13-2005, 06:37 PM I don't hold the button.. i watch it till it is fully opened.. then i let go of the button right away...
btw... someone scraped my bumper today! SOOOOO MADDDD! gonna cost me like 800 to fix! shXX

Sorry if I misled everyone. "Holding down the button" was a test to isolate the source of the clicking noise. Very sorry to hear about your bumper avexnsx. I have some scratches on my bumper too, & I have no idea when or how it happened. :dunno:
avexnsx 06-13-2005, 08:29 PM it's ok... i was just making sure i was clearly stating my problem... :lmao:
but anyway... it is not a small scratch... it is a big scratch!! =''(
BenjiBoy650 06-13-2005, 08:40 PM I'm really confused now. I thought this was all about sunroofs. Then benjamming said something about burning up the power window motor when you hold down the switch because you are constantly sending power to it when you are asking it to open (duh?). Well...if it's any help now...I hear the click when I let go of my sunroof open button.
I wasn't under the impression that everyone was holding the button down forever. Sorry for the confusion :headbash:

Sorry about that - getting it off topic and all. No need to get all up tight about it.
My question was meant to ascertain if the motor will really burn up if the button is pressed for a long period of time. I figured there was a switch of sorts to keep this from happening. I thought it might be possible for this switch to be causing the problem. Long shot for several reasons but I suppose mainly b/c I don't know enough about the electrical schematic.
SSMV6 06-14-2005, 08:01 AM I think the window and sunroof switches are just "dumb" switches.. They always send power to the motor when it's held down (except the close button). If you hold it down, say 20 minutes straight, you have a very high possibility of burning out the motor from all the heat it generates. Nothing bad is going to happen if you're just holding it down for 5 seconds after it's fully opened.
avex, I'm sure it'll buff right out! ;) At least it's the bumper and not the side of the car. You don't have to worry about it rusting. :blah: How bad is the scratch anyway? You going to post any pics?

My uncle ran into a wall with his new Odyssey :lmao: Anyways, he had a watermelon sized dent in his bumper that we removed with some good ol' fashioned brute force and a 2x4, paint was fine. Then again, he also had 3M paint protection on it and the film didn't even break.
avexnsx 06-15-2005, 08:50 AM Maybe I should have gotten that 3M film too.. but too late now! ='(
but anyway... I dun think I am gonna fix it... the area I work in doesn't have the brightest drivers... gonna knock on wood and hope it won't happen again....
and besides... this will be my reason for getting a bodykit! LOL!
