View Full Version : just waiting on my income tax check..
uhohkaitlina 02-20-2009, 03:38 PM Okay so here's another infamous "rim thread" (sorry).
Once again, I'm driving home from work when I realize there is an ugly bubble in my wheel... See below...

::ouch::....
And I was like "F!#*"... and so I went to an STS tires, as if I didn't know they would say it's not covered. It's not.
Moving on, there happened to be a rim shop on my way home. They've been there forever and so I said "why not." I went inside, the guys were really nice. We looked at some wheels, and they narrowed it down to these two.. I think that the chrome is too much (cmon it's a honda) but they seemed to say that once it's on the wheel it will look "slammin'"... I don't know if I want "slammin." I'm liking the other ones (second picture). More sporty and hondaish. What do you guys think? Do you like the second option or neither? I'm hoping to pop some on within the next 2 months.
chrome...

any help/suggestions would be appreciated. i'm sure you guys are all sick of seeing rim threads, so i apologize. i'm just slighty excited
Osiris_x11 02-20-2009, 03:55 PM machined/black...(my personal fav)
Wheel choices are very personal & subjective, but I'd go w/ the 2nd set pictured above which are also your "personal fav" (the 2-tone split 5-spoke style w/ polished-lip & rivets). The machine-like rivets might be a bit over-done, though. Nonetheless, split 5-spokes are a very classy & popular design nowadays, looks rather tuner & racy (not as in a risque` sense, more-so 'racy' = race-like/performance) but still distinguished. Split 5-spokes are a personal fav' of mine... ;)
The 1st set seems too close to the OEM/stock rims as-is, just blinged-out in chrome. Also, that style w/ the deep-dish suits S.U.V.'s, trucks, and yester'year low-riders/sedans. . .
Before you buy, def' let us know the make/model & size so we can let you know if it's a deal or not...
G'luck!
Once again, I'm driving home from work when I realize there is an ugly bubble in my wheel... See below...Regarding your damaged tire... if there is no abrasion/cut/scrape on the surface of the bulge, pursue a warranty claim for defective materials/fabrication through the tire manufacturer via the dealer. When you acquired your Accord, you should've received some literature/brochure on the OEM/stock tires which outlines the limited-warranty against defects/failures. You might get a pro-rated settlement (based on usage) or a complete/total replacement, so it's worth pursuing w/o a doubt! Chop-chop... :D
Clutch34 02-20-2009, 04:02 PM I like the second one, too. Although I do like the chrome look, Osiris is right -- looks too much like the stock rims.
Good luck with whichever one you decide on!
AznX TL 02-20-2009, 04:03 PM that bubble looks like you hit a pot hole. make sure your stock rim isnt bent.
and i also vote for rim #2.
uhohkaitlina 02-20-2009, 04:07 PM I mean they had a lot of chrome ones that looked nice.. I'm just thinking price... And with the machined ones, granted I take care of them I can have them on all year round, whereas the chrome.. definitely not. I forgot to mention by the way they are both 20's. I asked for 19's but they said 19 would come out more expensive in the end, because apparently it's harder/more pain in the ass to get 19'' tires. Not sure if that's true.
Roughly, he said that the second option would cost me $1600 including tires which I thought was an AMAZING price. Should I choose to finance, (which I probably will because I have no patience,) it is no interest for the first year, and I would definitely have them paid off by the end of the summer anyways. All around it looks like a good deal. Then again, sometimes shops say it will cost $1600 and then when it's all said and done, that $1600 turns into $1800... we'll see. Once I get my check I'll get all the numbers. Thanks for your guys' input. :)

There is a scratch under the bubble which you can kinda see, so I probably hit a pot hole. They are so many here in Jersey that they seem impossible to avoid. :(. I'll have to drive extra careful..

Well I looked through all my paperwork, and there was nothing regarding a Michelin warranty. I called Michelin corporate, and they told me to go to an STS tires. I did that, but I got there at 5:20 and they were closing at 6:00 and said that they didn't have time to do an inspection. The second I mentioned "bubble" they said "nope, no way it's covered." So I guess that's all I needed to hear....
I found the tire for $170 including shipping on tirerack. Exceptionally good price considering what the dealer/shops are asking for it...
stevencrosbie 02-20-2009, 04:15 PM I had this happen on a Yokahama tire on my Acura TL. Discount Tire prorated a new tire for me and Yokahama came up with about half of the cost.
Sorry about this, but you need to get that taken care of asap before you have a blowout.
Dang pot holes....just think how many people are probably experiencing the same problem with the same pothole...
bukxanger 02-20-2009, 04:19 PM #2 .
Osiris_x11 02-20-2009, 04:40 PM Regarding the tire 'bulge', ultimately it comes down to time vs. money. If you have the former, escalate the matter. As affirmed by stevencrosbie, you can get a pro-rated settlement at times; just have to speak to the right people & so on. . .
"$170" for an OEM 'P225/50 R17 93V' tire!?! Bloody-hell..
Roughly, he said that the second option would cost me $1600 including tires which I thought was an AMAZING price...Sounds quite reasonable for after-market 20" rims/tires mount-&-balanced! If you get a chance whenever it may be, get the name of the make/model of the wheel & what exact tires they plan on installing. Just want to make sure you ain't getting $125/corner boat-anchor cast-iron'like alloy-rims & some weak-sauce lame'o $50/tire rubber. That's cause we all look out for each other... :D
(the more informed you show them you are, the better deal & higher-quality stuff you'll get)
RTexasF 02-20-2009, 05:08 PM Girl,
You MUST learn to understand the difference between a wheel and a tire. Whatever you select that suits you will work well.......wheels or tires or both.
v-6 nolo 02-20-2009, 06:01 PM Are you sure it's wise to get 20" wheels with low profile tires when you are already having issues with the aforementioned abundance of pot holes? Not knocking you, i like #2 as well, but it seems you are in an area extremely prone to tire and wheel damage.

And I thought of that, but I'm not exactly as careful as I could be with the stock rims, cause I knew they were temporary anyway. Even though these rims could be on all year round, I would probably only keep them on in the summer/spring because of the excessive potholes come winter... but thanks for your input :)
morcheez 02-20-2009, 10:55 PM id say 1600 is hardly a good deal on 20's...what brands are u looking at ??and what kind of tires are they quoting for u ?? do some internet shopping im sure u can find something alot better for that price
k24z3 03-04-2009, 06:24 PM Get rim #1!
