over the weekend i was driving along as i normally do. i was sitting at light and it turned green, so i drove on. i was driving downhill so i took my foot off the gas to just coast, but my car did not coast... in fact it started to accelerate like i was flooring the pedal. i hit the brakes but all it did was slow the acceleration so i threw my car into neutral. after i calmed my nerves down a little, (i hit 70 before i went into neutral) i started to drive again, this time testing it out, and it did the same thing. i finally got to my destination safely and about after an hour i went back to my car to see if it did it again, but it was fine. i checked everything i could possibly think of that would cause it to do that and nothing stood out. an electronic glitch perhaps? i haven't yet had the time to run over to honda but i defiantly plan on going over there. has anybody ever even heard of this happening? by the way i have an 08 4cyl auto

Never heard of such a thing! No check engine light?

check the trottle body sensors...tell the dealer what happened they can check to see if it might of reg in the ecu. I had this happen to my 2000 accord and no check engine light came on, but went to the dealer and they saw it was stored in the ecu. They changed the two sensors on top of the trottle body

Was by any chance the floor mat jammed near the gas pedal? Had that one happen before (but not on an accord...)

Sounds like a drive by wire issue. Take it to the dealer.

I vote for aftermarket floor mat or one that slipped. :yes:There's too much redundancy in the systems for it to be an electrical/mechanical problem.

There is always the ignition switch to slow things down. Just don't turn it completely to off position-one click to accessories should kill it. Keep us advised on what you find out.

it could not have been the floor mat because it was hooked onto the little hook on the floor... it was the first thing i checked. i brought it to honda, they said the car is fine but they have it on record in case it happens again. my car has been fine since, but im keeping an eye on it

How could a floor mat hold the pedal down? lol

How could a floor mat hold the pedal down? lol

some aftermarket mats are really thick and heavy. and they move around alot since they're not specifically designed for the car.

:dunno: but they've been known to do it..... I guess they'd slip AFTER the pedal is depressed & hold it down. It's been discussed for ALL makes & models of cars forever. Honda put the little hooks on the stock ones for that reason. I'm sure others have too.

Cruise Control maybe? Did you have your finger on the accelerate button? You never know, but you mentioned that you hit the breaks AND put it in neutral, so I dunno...

the cruise control was not on and when i hit the breaks it just slowed down a little bit but was still accelerateing... so to stop it from accelerating anymore thats when i put it in neutral. honda said if it happens again to call them, they werent really that helpful, at least they did not charge me
