Hey all. My '93 has somewhere well over 300k on it, but the odometer has stopped at 200,246 a while ago! anyway, runs strong and has been a great car. want to keep it running. Had a timing belt replaced april 2002, then again june 2006. Definitely time for fluids and a big service, whats opinions on a third timing belt? And how much should it run me?

Specific issue questions, right tire clicks sometimes when going around right turns, ball joints or something?

Also, noticed that very rarely there is a smell of antifreeze that seems to come through the vent. What could this mean? Once i swear there was even some vapor coming out of the vent.

i say, if it's in good shape, keep it going.... the repair bills may get a bit more expensive as it agaes tho, but i don't think that it would leave you stranded.....

speaking from experience with my 93.....

Rhythmic clicking on sharp turns at low speed is usually indications of worn outer CV joints. Not uncommon.

Ugh, you smell coolant and see vapor (with heat on?) coming out of vents? Are the windows getting a layer of mucky fog on them yet?
Heater core a very good possibility, full dash removal, and a/c discharge is required to do this. If you're really handy, you could spend a better part of a weekend doing that job yourself. Otherwise figure $800-$1000 to do the job. It's around a 7.5 hour job in a shop to do.

If you think you're doing 20k per year, you could leave the t-belts for another year.

Price really depends on what's found once the thing's opened up. Has the water pump ever been replaced? How about the tension rollers for both belts? The tension springs too, I'm sure they've weakened a bit by now. Any oil residue coming out of the timing cover?

It can be as cheap or as pricey as you would want it to, but if one of the rollers, water pump or oil seals blow, I could foresee possible bent valves in its future if the belt was to break.

Hopefully the vapor coming out of the vents was in the summer time when it was very humid out. If thats what happened then that can be normal. It sounded from your description that the coolant smell did not happen at the same time you saw the vapor. Prob not a bad idea to have a uoa done and see if any coolant is mixing in with your oil. Around $23 at www.blackstone-labs.com. Also the smell maybe from a leaking hose end.

great info guys thanks. cv joints i figured as much.

heater core. that doesnt sound good. it seems from the smell that radiator fluid is getting in to the heating/venting system somewhere. or maybe its just picking it up in the air before its pulled in at all.

either way, i appreciate the info and will probably take it to the local honda dealer and have them check it all out. I keep great logs on this, i attached whats been done. it had water pump and all with the last timing belt. maybe ill put that off and just have them do the fluids and look it over.

thanks again!
