well, got my oil pan replaced yesterday, and was talking to the guy who works as the sales rep of my mechanic's shop (they sell used hondas too)....
told him that my car is getting old, and that i was beginning to look at another set of wheels (which is true).... so, i guess in order to try to make a last-minute sale, he let me test drive a dark blue 2000 accord LX (very nice).... tranny seemed strong, and the interior was immaculate! loved the power of the stronger 4-cyl too.....
bad news: i have more leg/knee room in my car than i did in the '00.... i told him this; he said that's really strange..... so, we were talking about the seat configurations of the sedan vs coupe, and it does seem to be different.
sat in a '02 civic HX MT.... plenty of room....
sat in two accord coupes; had enough room to get by (especially with the 6-way power driver's seat, with leather, btw  )
sat in a '03 accord LX (i think) sedan..... i was completely lost in there..... controls are strange-looking (read: out of place), and compared to the other cars i've driven, it's HUGE!!! :paranoid:
so, what should i do? get a newer car (the 03 is going for 13.9k right now -- silver), go with the civic coupe, the accord coupe, OR.......
keep my car? :dunno:
PS: trying to avoid having a car payment....

i1,
i will say this: even if i do decide to stop driving my car, it will be staying in the family. my brother is going to take it over, and possibly, my mother will be paying for the next tranny IF i decide to "retire" her........
500k miles? more? less?
engine burns NO OIL AT ALL!!!! the sales rep said that i should keep it too.......

Not in your pole,,, BUY NEW!!! lololol I always find out why somebody else didnt want there car when I buy used. And its never cause they where bored with it, didnt like it anymore. And I wouldnt dump a late modle car for the above reasons. :)
Im 6'3" 260 lbs and I fit nice in the wifes 05 sedan. Had two of our grown daughters in it this weekend and they where comfy. I didnt have to move the seat up for the daughter behind me. Now with all three grown daughters in it comfy would be gone for them in the back. But I would be just fine.

yeah, noticed that yesterday as well..... even wit the driver's seat all the way back in the 7th gen, the back seat still have plenty of room for people...
a question: why would YOU dump a late model car then, if not for the above reasons? if i needed the room cause i was married and about to start a family, then i would have no problem having that as a wknd car or commute car....... but, since i'm currently single (as don't see any change there in the forseeable future)..........
vroom vroom!! <---- after new tranny! :lmao: ;) :joker:

Also not on your list, but if I was looking at a 6th Gen, I'd look for a manual sedan. I'm 6ft and have no interior complaints. I can adjust the driving position to me and then jump in the back seat with lots of leg room.

well, of course i would try to get a stick (if they had one available)..... they don't right now, so i'll keep my eyes on their lot.... i definitely would've test drove the AT then the MT so see the room difference....
do the MT cars have more tilt wheel "travel"?

How many miles on the 2000? If it is under 100k and still has the trans warranty in effect, that might be your best option as far as return on your investment...

Coming from the "vertically challenged".......... I think you should try to find an '03 MT. That way you'd have the space, plus if you go with the more common 4cyl., more pep than the AT, more control over gas mileage & you'd have a great car! Not that I'm biased or anything... You'll get used to the strange places for everything. :D

was it weird for you at first as well?

Yep....after driving the '86 for about 10 years, the '02 was closer to where it had things... the '03 is way different! Now it's no big deal & since the Pilot is pretty close to the same it's "normal"!

have had a 4th gen in my family for 15 years (first the 90, now the 93).....
it seems so........ futuristic to me..... i have always said if it ain't broke, don't fix it....
i may opt for an 02 2dr MT if i can find one..... :)

You can get a brand spanking new '05 civic VP coupe for $11,788 including destination, or even an '05 Accord LX Sedan 4cyl m/t for $16,799 or $17,299 for auto (maybe even less).
At those highly discounted prices, it would be silly not to buy new. Plus, Honda still has 1.9% financing for 36 months OAC!!!! ($7500 minimum finance amount)

I vote for a 7th gen MT sedan, preferably new. I'm 6'1" and I hate the seating position in my 6th gen with a PASSION. The lumbar support is too low on the backrest, the headrest doesn't tilt forward enough, the rear of the bottom cushion isn't wide enough, the wheel doesn't tilt high enough, no knee room, etc. About the only thing good about it is that the shifter is perfectly placed so I can shift with the flick of a wrist, and the seat slides back far enough :)

noticed the same thing about the tilt wheel in the 6th gen that i test drove as well..... too low for sure.

knowing a guy who is well over 6ft who had a 6th gen coupe and looked into the 7th gen sedan and coupe, i know he had issues fitting in the 7th gen comfortably. he claimedthe 6th gen coupe was better for his height. in an lx, it might notbe as bad though. he complained mainly about headroom in the ex v6's. the 7th gen lost some height in that department. he also had major blindspot issues.
other than that i'd say definitely look for an mt if it's what you want. look for the best deal you can find. although i would definitely consider new, unless you want to buy my 04 ex coupe for 16k....... :lmao: 14k miles. just inspected, brakes like new and tires still have plenty of miles left!!!.
oh yes, the civic's had more headroom and all inside. fun car for weaving around in traffic. it didn't feel as big and cumbersome as the accord. but after driving stevel's coupe, im beginning to think the sway bar would really help the issues i have with the accord in traffic like that! ;)
i haven't had any issue with button placement in the 7th gen. each honda i've owned has progressed but hasnt been drastically different from the last one, so everything has been in the "right" place for me in each car..... i can't see it being too difficult to adapt to.

The interior of the 7th gen (non-NAVI) looked weird to me at first, too, but I got used to it very quickly. When you drive it, everything just seems to fall into place! You rest your hand down on the shifter and the radio volume knob is only a finger's touch away. They got rid of the twist knob for the wipers, but the new wiper lever just makes more sense, etc.. ..
But I had to vote for the HX since it's closest to your Accord in size and comfort and it's a MT! If you're trying to avoid payments, then this is a better way to go than getting a new car... (just think of all the taxes and insurance!) You'll save $$ faster for the new car you really want! Plus, you're going to get 45 MPG to boot! You should obvious look into getting a different car since your tranny is only going to get worse from here on out. Once it goes, it's not worth it to repair it any more, IMO.
