OK, this isn't exactly what you think..... what I need help with is HOW to get our neighbors to stop spraying the Pilot. It's parked in a covered carport, that has a near 6' fence on one side, the house on the the other & a slotted cyclone gate in front. They have a sprinkler system that DOES NOT hit it. Almost weekly they get out there with their hose & spray, hitting the Pilot!

I really don't want to be the gripey, naggy neighbor....BUT we've tried talking loud enough in the tard & carport area for them to hear how unhappy this makes us. I don't think it's "on purpose" just being stupid & thoughtless.

One "kid" that lives there drives a older mint "pimp" car. I think it's a caddy. A really big one! That he washes pretty much daily. They also have an '00 or '01 black Altima that they used to keep up really well. So they know the importance of a clean, dry car.

We built the carport so we'd have protected parking. I'm ready to spray their windows of the house on that side to make a point. (I don't think my hose will reach their cars) My prince is really getting ticked off about this. I don't want a neighborhood fued over it, but it really needs to stop.

Any suggestions?????

I'm really hoping someone's outside when I mow, so I can try talking to them. The problem is that there's quite a few people living there & I don't know which one is doing the spraying! I think it's one of the women in there.... they speak spanish & I don't. (I understand some, but I don't speak it) In the past we've had parking issues. And in April an older "uncle" backed into Crystle's car. I watched him & he denied it. The actual home owner did come out later & applogize. There wasn't any big damage, it was the attitude.... "I didn't do it" that was frastrating! Once it was admitted to, we were OK with it.

Eggs are tempting...... I think I'd do the house, not a car.... I just can't be that abusive to any car!

Yep, communication is better than any potential escalation (after you spray their windows, you might feel better, but how they'll react is an unknown).

Also, if they are Spanish speaking, your attempt at being "overheard" in the driveway was for naught. But if they understand English, then you should be able to express your concern in a direct manner. "Por favor, mi amigo" might be a good intro (maybe along with some brownies???) :) :) :)

Until proven otherwise, I would give the "spray lady" the benefit of the doubt that she wants nothing less than to be a good neighbor as you should want to be as well.

Best wishes for a desirable outcome!

Well, my front yard is all done & no one came out.... maybe later i'll try going to the door, but in the past they don't answer....

I was here first! I'd never move from my home because of neighbors speaking another language! They are generally nice people. When they moved in I took over a dessert & welcomed them here. The "problems" have been pretty small: parking so it blocks our driveway & the water spots. Last time I talked to the mom that was doing the hand watering. I saw her get my daughter's car. She'd just washed & waxed it the day before & it was quite a chore since she was 8 months pregnant! So it stopped for a while. Now here we go again!

He's really in a tizzy! They got the whole hood, roof & windsheild, which made driving to work towards the sun a hazzard this morning! Since the spots were dry & we have pretty hard water here, he was stuck with 'em. He plans to go have a talk with them tonight. He also plans to tell them he's going to water apot their cars everytime his is done. I think he's going to get a water soaker. He'll only put tap water in it. Nothing else.

I really dont think they know what they did & threats aren't going to help. I think we have to totally enclose the carport. Which ****s because when it's hot air coming in from that side is helpful!

I think I'll just relax & as long as he keeps fairly calm, let him deal with it! :dunno:

we'll TRY talking....again....

The house on the other side caught on fire a while ago.... the older lady that lives there had some guys over to reroof the added part (flat top) with the tat stuff.... we all smelled something that wasn't tar before & after they left. Well, about a half hour later there was smoke. They'd caught the insulation on fire before they left & it smoldered for a while.

I may end up with a house guest tonight.... My prince will not be pleased this time!

They had 4 big fire trucks! One was the one that Jarrison had his picture taken in on his birthday! He's here now & we've been outside to see the firetrucks & firefighters 6 times in the first 30 minutes!

The neighbor is fine & I think she's just got ceiling gone, but not roof!

n1accord
06-24-2005, 05:08 AM
When BigBucks suggested a SuperSoaker, I don't think a firetruck was what he had in mind . . . but if it's convenient ??? . . . nah, just talk to 'em. :D

As soon as he came home he marched right over there.... he started out extremely gruff. Jerry, the guy that owns the house is luckily very laid back. He offered to pay for a detail to get the spots off. Of course, that's not what we want, we just want it to stop. He also offered to cut down a tree that is apparently the one being sprayed. My prince said, no, just tell the waterer to not spray it. It needs water at the roots, not the needles!

He started out with the "you need to control your household" speech. Lucky for all I wasn't out there! I was inside....listening. I was laughing. Like he EVER had "contol" of HIS household!!!

Anyway, we'll see how long it stops for this time.

The neighbor on the other side kept us busy till about midnight. She's gettin' up there & needed help after her fire. This is the second one in 2 years! The other one was when her heater caught fire. This one was thanks to roofers. I told her to put a stop payment on their check before calling her insurance Co. She did. Jacob, being a lisenced electrician, got her power back on. Today the city people will come & inspect it, then contact the power company to get a meter put back in. I guess if the fire dept. cuts power, they have PG&E come & take the meter. Some wires were cooked in the attic, where the fire was.

When the roofers had put the tar crap on the flat top part of her roof, they unknowingly caught her insulation in the original roof area on fire. It smoldered for a couple of hours before actually flaming. It was caught really early. So it only scorched the rafter beams. So she has a hole in her ceiling, a pile of insulation in her yard that had been removed & now she has power back on. Since Jacob got there after dark, we ran an extension cord from our house to her's to give him enough light to get it reconnected.

She managed to talk the firefighters into washing & drying her Jag! They'd made a mess of it with debrie of the insulation! I talked to the one doing it & he said his dad had bought a Jag a couple years back & the engine blew up on the 30 mile drive home!

As friendly as they were, they might have hosed the cars down on the other side of us if I'd asked!!! They were very impressed by how "neighborly" we all are here! :D

This (illegal residents) is a battle I've been in many times! (with some people dearly loved by me...mom, sis, close friends, others) My opinion is that ANYONE that comes to this country should do it legally! I've been to another country & did it legally. Before I went I did my best to learn the language. I wasn't great at it, but I could use it limitedly.

The humor was in questionable taste.

I wish there was a different way to explain the communication problems with my neighbors on that side of the house. I hope no one interpeted why there's a communication problem as a racial thing. I also don't speak German, French, Hebrew, Yiddish or anything else!

In my opinion singaling out any group whether it's race, religion, stature, size, intelligence, regional, gender, etc. is wrong. We ALL do it to some extent though. I know people of a particular group that will only buy big ticket items from the same group even if it means a long drive. Being prejudice goes for targeting a group JUST because they are the same as much as JUST because they are different. It's simply a PRE judgement "before the facts are known". The FACTS can either be good ones or bad ones. So if I will only buy big items from green eyed redheads, it's just as wrong as if I WON'T buy big items from blue eyed blondes.

Just for the record.... my neighbor on one side is Hispanic (non Mexican), one the other is Italian, the houses across the street are Hispanic (Mexican), then Black, then Hawaiian. In my family: I have a Black mix granddaughter, a Mexican mix grandson, 2 Irish grandkids, 2 Euro-mutts. I LOVE my family & my neighborhood! My son seems to be very attracted to Asian women...so who knows...

Excuse the soapbox.... I guess I started the thread so if I continue the drift it's OK.

Back to the water spotting issue..... I'm thankful that Jerry was home. He does speak English & it solved the communication problem. He said the right things. We'll see if it's solves the watering problem.... I certainly have my fingers....& maybe toes crossed!
:)

I guess we'll be spending a weekend working them out on the Pilot! I'm hoping the Zaino protected the surface well enough that a wash, dry & some good old fashioned hand buffing will take care of it! It's not as much the assumption of "illegal" as Mexican Illegal.

Not all Hispanic are Mexican, not all Mexican are illegal.

Although it was a really awful movie, "A Day Without A Mexican" had a very good point!

Not agreeing with you does NOT make anyone stupid!! Not matter what the subject that's not acceptable!! It has been discussed on other threads on other subjects!

In this state we ARE being drained financially by helping out ALL the low income here, not just illegals. If I had a magic wand, I'd enforce the laws we have about getting in this country on all the boarders. (the only confirmed illegals I've known personally were from Finland) I'd also use the wand to phase out "freebies" such as welfare by replacing them with work programs. For example, to collect a check you clean a park or something.

Here, if you make 40K you can't get any medical help, you make too much, but you can't afford the 1K per month for health insurance! That is this county's poverty level. So you must decide which is more needed, rent, food, transportation, health insurance..... I know many in that bracket. They aren't "poor" by most standards, but can't afford many basic needs.

I don't have a magic wand & I don't get to decide who comes here & what we give them..... so my job as a neighbor & citizen is too be kind to the people I meet & do my best to live peacefully.

We now have 2 days without new water spots & that's what we wanted! So talking to our neighbors did what it was supposed to do.

I'm sorry if I'm percieved as stupid, but I don't want all illegals shipped out. I do want our laws enforced. AND stupid little me ain't going anywhere!!

Bigbucks1959

You make some good points, But sorry ALLL ILLEGAL ALIENS should be shipped out...and the legal spongers must go also..Even if they are full blooded American Sponges..

The welfare system is a very abused system.
And Health care is out of control, I sometimes wish we had the Canadian system here so everyone was taken care of by the government, but I HATE the higher taxes associated with that system. :thumbsdow

I did not call you stupid, just can't see how anyone would allow any illegal aliens to sponge off our systems in the USA...We pay the taxes and fund the programs and then they come over and learn/are taught by other illegals how to abuse the programs...

If I knew of any ILLEGALs I would report them right away to the proper authorities. :naughty:

Just does not make sense to me how we cannot find them all and ship them back where they belong. :naughty:

I don't have a magic wand & I don't get to decide who comes here & what we give them..... so my job as a neighbor & citizen is too be kind to the people I meet & do my best to live peacefully.

We now have 2 days without new water spots & that's what we wanted! So talking to our neighbors did what it was supposed to do.

I'm sorry if I'm percieved as stupid, but I don't want all illegals shipped out. I do want our laws enforced. AND stupid little me ain't going anywhere!!

I give you credit for at least being willing to ship off your fellow citizens if they're abusing the sytem! I agree on the point that there's WAY too much system abuse. I do believe that part of the problem with our country is the lack of pride we have as a whole. To get pride in yourself you have to feel that you earned what you have. We're a bunch of spoiled brats! (collectively, of course.)

The unfortunate part of our way of life is that so many of us "citizens" aren't willing to do the work that some that have snuck in are. Hotel housekeeping & produce picking are 2 that come to mind. We have enough FALSE pride to see those jobs as lower class. We catagorize too much. Even the terms "white collar", "blue collar" & "pink collar" are a way to catagorize. We all make assumptions about others. Do you assume your Honda tech is college educated? Do you assume the manager is?

Do you disagree? You are very misinformed then. (nice way of saying dumb)

This is where I got the idea of saying the ones that don't agree are stupid.

Things I think we agree on are the (welfare) system isn't working, people are taking advantage of it, non citizens are getting way too many breaks & you want something done about it!

It's the HOW I have a problem with.

I honestly don't know which ones of my ancestors came here legally & which ones didn't. I do know that my maternal Irish great grandparents came here for a better life because they were starving. One of their sons went on to start Kinney's shoes, one started a watch/clock company & one was a carpenter. In another branch of my family they were here for several generations & later produced President Grant, my great grand uncle. My dad's dad was German & barely spoke English. I have no clue if he came legally or not. I never even knew him. He drown when my dad was 13, here in our delta. POINT IS: many of us are citzens by mere chance of birth & if our grandparents or great grand parents hadn't come over, legal or not, we wouldn't be here.

When asked my mom answers the question of nationality as "native American" since she was born in OK. She refuses to put white/caucasian. She gets really angry if she has to push a button to continue a phone call in English. For such a gentle person in nearly every other area, I'm really surprised by this! I understand, but I'm still surprised.

So here I am, half German half Irish & my family MAY have come illegally. Where would I get sent? I'm legal by virture of birth. My prince almost wasn't a citizen! He was born in Germany to parents in the Army. Which normally isn't a problem. But they lived off base & his mother almost dropped him out in the taxi on the way to the hospital. Had he been born off base, he would've been in trouble!

Disagreeing is good!

If everyone agreed with me they'd leave their Hondas stock 'cuz I think it's healthier for the car. No one would drive a stick 'cuz I'm too lazy to have one in our nasty traffic. Autoshop & parenting classes would be mandantory in school. No one would own a brown car. All silver & light blue cars would have extra lighting for our fog. "No child left behind" would mean all 9 year olds have been to a Disney park! :D

Well, BOO HOO.....

I feel IMMIGRATION should be called on ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS.

You disagree? Follow them back across the border. :naughty:

If they r here legally I have not offended anyone.

Grow up.

Phil K.

You want to know what happens when you do?... Nothing, nada.

When we take them to the INS facility, we get a ration of crap because they want pre authorization before any UDA's (undocumented aliens) are brought there. That means they have to work to put them in the system and put them on the lime green bus Southbound.

Unless its a high profile case, they want nothing to do with it.

What happens when a van gets stopped with 21 UDA's inside? The driver most likely gets a ticket for whatever he got pulled over for and nothing gets done with the UDAs, they are sent on their way.

See, if we just enforced the laws we have, it would help! They keep adding more laws when they don't even use the ones we already have! That drives me nuts! Meanwhile, to make us feel safe we have to wait in long lines at airports & amusement parks.....

Where's my magic wand when I need it???!!!

billinaz

Tell that to the Dems who want to add more and more laws. They want gun bans, magazine bans, ammo bans, etc. As proven with the 1994 Slime bill (oops I mean crime bill) that was pushed through by Billary Klinton, it was proven yet again these new laws are useless.

If they would just enforce what we have, and enforce them rigidly, we would be in better shape. That means no medical treatment if you are not here legally, no welfare or assistance if you are not here legally.

If you are here legally, I say we replace welfare with workfare. You need money?.. great, we have tons of government buildings and land that need secretaries, janitors, landscapers, etc. Oh, you have 47 kids?.. no problem, we have more people out of work staffing the day care center. If you're the mechanical type, we have tons of government vehicles that need to be worked on.

By Government, I dont only mean Federal. State, County, Municipal governments that are running on tight budgets could really use the boost with more personnel.

Heres yet another example of "just enforce the laws we have". We caught a guy burglarizing a home.(felony #1). He was on probation after being convicted of a felony. In his possession was a firearm (felony #2) that contained 10 rounds of ammo (felony #3), and since he is a prohibited possessor (felony #4) in possession of a defaced (removed serial number) firearm (felony #5) that he stole from a previous burglary, we thought that this guy would be decades into his stay as a guest of the government before he saw freedom again.

Nope, he got PROBATION. I think it may have been the "Double super secret probation" similar to what Dean Wormer gave the guys in animal house.

When Im president, things are gonna change.

It appears that you might speak NYC Spanish. The Spanish out West here is quite different.

Youre from Queens?... I escaped from South Ozone Park.....

I live not far from there. I used to live in Ozone Park (not south ozone). I now live in Woodhaven.

As for NYC Spanish, probably. My spanish speaking friends who I hang out and talk with in spanish are mostly New Yorkerized PR's and Dominicans so over time I picked up colloquial expressions from them (eg. using "no hay porque" or "no hay de que" instead of "de nada" ). I am not a native speaker (I'm not hispanic) but I do get compliments that I sound like one.

Re: Immigration laws,

I believe that we have a "feel good" kind of Government. The Government will NOT go about deporting tons and tons of latin american and chinese illegal immigrants, simply because they will piss off their voters. But they will go ahead and deport Pakistani, Bangladeshi and middle eastern immigrants, because the public perceives them as terrorists.

It's sad. I believe the law should be enforced equally across the board. But it's quite clear that there's a lot of selective enforcement going on.

Hey dude, I don't think your ancestors were originally from the United States either, so they had to immigrate.

I'll put this in short for you. You struck a nerve as well. I immigrated illegaly but went through the whole process of becoming legal. If you have a problem with me or my family, you may choose to leave this forum.

Don't ask me to leave. This is a free country and I can say whatever i want to say, just like you can. Or did you not learn that when you took your citizenship test? :dunno:

Seriuosly, glad that you made it legal..I hope that you have a good job and are contributing to society.

OK, I'm officially turning this thread back to the intended subject........water spots.

Our neighbors are being coppertive so far!

I will let you all know if the spots remove easy when we get a chance to attack them. It won't be today, that truck is the project.

If you want to continue the discussion on immigrants, legal or not.... or the problems with our system & how people take advantage of it, feel free...but START A NEW THREAD in the PIT area!!!

I will warn you though.....even on another thread attacks on a particular group will NOT be tollerated!!!

Thread drifting isn't a big deal to me, I do it all the time.......but I'm taking back this one!!!

I'm curious to find out how much the Zaino protects against the dried on hard water spots!! We've not had a problem in the time we've been using it. They're actually harder to get off the glass than the paint. I'll try to remember to take some before & after pictures!

I may be begging for help.....or bragging about the wonders of Zaino..... You'll know when I do!! :D

Princess - Clay may work. I received a speeding ticket in my black Jetta. When I was pulled over the sprinklers turned on and was just soaking the passenger side of the car, and I asked the officer if I could move my car. He didn't see them turn on and said no. When he came back, he realized why I wanted to move and felt really bad. Said he was sorry 4 times.

The water really did a number on my car. Clay worked, as well as Maquires Swirl Mark Remover and a Porter Cable. Give it a try and good luck!!!

I wasn't "allowed" to wash it or anything today.... I had the time, but I've had a queasy tummy for the last 2 days & was forced to take it easy. He was busy with cutting the wood & building shelves for the playroom.

What I'm HOPING to report when we do get to it is.... the zaino protected it so wonderfully that just a wash & careful drying did the trick.... :lmao: we'll see. We've been pretty careful about tap water spots & really haven't had to deal with them much. Rain water here isn't as nasty & haven't caused a problem.

I'm hoping beyond what you can imagine that no claying will be needed....but if it is, we've got some. It may be what we're doing for the 4th!

Oh yeah, we ONLY do the Hondas by hand.... no machines allowed.

Yesterday evening we finally had a chance to wash the Pilot.... The last few washings had been slightly different than in the past because we FINALLY went to using micro-fiber on our cars. Don't laugh! We had 2 wonderful cow hide shamois that were of an unknown age since he had them when we met, a bizillion years ago! They had worked surpreme in our opinion, & were baby's behind soft!

Well, since change does come difficult for some of us..... about 6 weeks ago we bought our first micro fiber cloths for the washing adventures.

One thing we noticed was that we no longer had to polish the windows every time we washed. Using a second DRY micro fiber cloth made the glass luster like it should. So the Zaino finish protector stuff that's in the washing stuff has been left on the glass.

When these nasty water spots came I figured they'd come off the paint without much problem... but fully expected to have to make a BIG effort on the glass. Especially since they'd now been baked on (we finally got some warmth here!).

After work he decided we're attacking the job. When done we didn't SEE any spots, but the true test would be driving to work with the morning sun blaring on it.

NO SPOTS!!!!

I can't believe it it!!!!

So the combination of zaino & micro fiber has made a miracle in our lives! No clay, no polish, not even windex or rain-X!! Just washed & carefully dried!!!

When buying our micro fiber cloths we tried to get ones that specified all cotton since you're not supposed to use anything with polyester on the any of the polymer finishing products.

I think now I'll be able to talk him into investing in the big ones.... we're using ones that are about 18x18 now.

It's happy dance time!!!!

Princess - Great news!!!

I would highly recommend the waffle weave micro fibers for drying. They will hold more water than a straight micro fiber towel.

I also recommend getting several in different colors so that you can use a certain color with a certain product. And remember to use a detergent like Tide Free to wash the mf towels. The hard part is that they do such a fine job of taking dirt away from the surface that they also do a go job of holding onto that dirt in the wash. I usually do one wash cycle with detergent and 2 with just water to completely remove all the detergent and dirt.

Princess - Here is what I have and where I bought it from. http://www.pakshak.com/waffle-weave-micro-fiber-towel-25x36-1.html

This is a great towel. The waffle weave allows it to retain more water than a normal microfiber.

I gave one to my father that he uses on his Lexus Hybrid and now has raved about it to his friends.

s there really such a thing as cotton microfiber??

That's what I thought too, but the packaging said "100 % cotton". That's how I got him to try them. They look like the light blue ones in the Micropak. In the smallest ones they also had white. I like white. Lets me know when there's something on it even better! I already had to throw one away! I droppped it in a planter & that top soils stuff refused to come out! Little pieces of wood things were on it. I washed it alone, but they were still there. Opps!

I sure hope they're cotton! You aren't supposed to use any polyester stuff with polymer finishes!:paranoid:

If in getting some bigger ones, I find out that I misread the packaging, then at least I know they work wonderful on windows!!

Agile, thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

You know, I've never even looked on Zaino Bros. for them! They might have cotton ones too! Or some sort of non polyester blend that's recommended. :dunno:

Day 2 of driving into that morning sun without spots! He's so happy about them coming off so easy. In the past we've had to use all sorts of stuff....even steel wool! Followed by all sorts of polishes. We even had airplane polish for years. It was for the canopys. Great stuff, but it's gone now.

We have hard water here & in the Fall it gets a high salt content, so drying fast is really important! On the paint most of the things to protect it do a pretty good job. BUT THE WINDOWS!! That's a different story!

here's what I found in the FAQ's area of Zaino Bros.:

Q: Are Micro-Fiber products safe to use?

A: Zaino has been testing various Micro-Fiber products. Unfortunately, the jury is still out on them. Some of them are excellent and do not scratch. Others are terrible and definitely scratch. The quality control of these products from overseas, especially Korea, is not consistent, so you never know if they will be the same scratch-free quality. Even when using the same brand, we found the quality to be inconsistent. For now, we do not recommend using them. However, lab testing is ongoing, and we will post an update when we have more conclusive results.

NOTE: If you are already using microfiber towels, look carefully at your paint finish under flourescent light when you are using your towels. If you are not getting any swirls or fine scratches from the microfiber towels, then you are okay and can continue to use them. Remember it's better to be safe than swirly.

So I wrote them I asked about the cotton/polyester issue. Hopefully they'll answer me. :)

princess
07-01-2005, 12:46 PM
They answered! YES, we can use micro fiber on the Zaino!! just VERY soft ones. The polyester isn't seen to be a problem SO FAR in their tests.

Ummm, I wonder why it's so important to use only cotton for toweling & now for the micro fiber.... :dunno: I'm so confused!

I may trim off the edges though. I'm concerned about lots of use with those little stitches.....
