View Full Version : Question About Those Cold Air Intake V6 VCM
walhaddi 03-10-2009, 09:00 PM Anyone has a V6 VCM engine with an intake on it? I am thinking about getting one, but I keep hearing that it might damage the engine.
ANyone got it on? What do you think? Also, does it effect the warranty?
CaMole 03-11-2009, 05:01 PM I have the Fujita CAI with the CEL. Even with the cel it seems my VCM is still engaging. Some people says it doesn't but i can feel it engaging. The transmission shifts a little harder than normal since your getting more power/air and its an automatic. Without the intake you shift very smoothly but with it the trans shifts kinda hard. It also takes longer for your gears to shift(not very noticeable in normal driving conditions)especially in uphill. I'm satisfied with it still since i got it for free but i wish Fujita will hurry up and make an intake with no CEL. That would make the gear shifting close to normal and also make it smoother. Now i wanna hear from others who have CAI or SRI for the V6 w/ VCM.
Also i don't think the intake damages the engine but perhaps the transmission. I'm not a car nerd or anything so i don't know that. It could affect your warranty but most likely it won't. If something does happen to your vehicle they have to prove that the intake was the problem. If they can't then it should be fixed under warranty.
elp_jc 03-11-2009, 05:43 PM Running your engine with the CEL is the stupidest thing to do. Independent of the transmission, the engine is running either overly rich or lean, and you can fry your cat(s) or your valves; take your pick. Plus with a racing filter you're letting all kind of crap into your engine. Can't understand why some folks have to put that POS on a car, especially a new one under warranty, but to each his own. Later.

It's the "sound," it's the "sound"! :lmao::lmao::lmao: I can't understand either, especially with CEL. Without CEL, and if my car was NOT under warranty, and if there was a cold hard proof it improved power, then maybe just maybe I might consider. But, perhaps not because if I REALLY wanted that extra few HP, I would've gone with another car with more power in the first place.
lldsandsll 03-12-2009, 05:16 AM The CEL on the fujita is not an issue, it's slightly rich, but not harmful.
I have the AEM CAI on my V6, and it runs perfectly, VCM even engages.
Also, I do not believe VCM is engaging on the fujita. CAMOLE, you need to get the AEM.
jayknight 03-12-2009, 07:00 AM VCM does not activate when the CEL is on. Only problem with running rich is unburnt fuel entering into the Cats (2 in 49 states, and 3 in CA cars). After a long period of time, this will destroy the cat converters. When the CEL is on, gas mileage is always down. With the CEL on, the ecu does not read from the 2 wbO2 sensors.

correct. keep in mind, fujita's intake doesn't cause the car to run dangerously rich, just rich enough for the code. over a long enough time tho, this would not be good.
CaMole 03-12-2009, 12:13 PM Does anyone know the situation with the CAI from Fujita? Its been a couple of months but still no word?

IMO, they'll never get it right. They don't even know what's going on. Call and ask. You will get the same answer I got every week I called. I dont know. Oh, and it's been a lot more than a couple months. Try close to 4 months.
CaMole 03-12-2009, 05:20 PM i know. everytime i call they say the same bs. was wondering if anyone got a different response.

if i were u, i would buy the AEM and try to eBay the fujita.
Throwdown 03-13-2009, 10:02 AM It's just a problem on the auto's with VCM or is it still an issue for the 6 speeds too?

you have it twisted. fujita is the problem, not the car.
aem works on all cars.
fujita works on no cars.

I just meant the fujita... I knew the AEM was good now... just still debating between the two with the AEM being a little more expensive...
CaMole 03-13-2009, 03:41 PM Fujita's CAI for the V6 throws a CEL on both Autos and Manuals(SRI not available for V6 atm). Fujita's SRI for the I4 does not throw a CEL on both Autos and Manuals(CAI not available for the I4 atm). Hope thats clears its up.
Also for the V6 CAI it throws the CEL code but it's not at dangerous levels where it will break down your engine but if kept on for a long period of time, lets say 5 years+, It might do damage. That's just from what I've heard. I still have my CAI on but that light is a real annoyance. I'm thinking about selling my current one and go back to stock until Fujita comes out with one thats not throwing the CEL. I know Fujita messed up this time but when they fix the problem. Im sure it will be a high quality intake just like AEM or Injen. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. You can't really blame them.
mattchatwin 03-13-2009, 10:41 PM With CEL on I thought it limits the engine gear box as well (ie, 5K redline). Not sure though. By the way, Injen has theres out now too. Someone just posted a thread on it. I have the AEM and just waiting to install (still pretty cool up here in Canada). I gave up on Fujita because of the CEL issue and there lack of being able to solve it as quick as AEM, and Injen who both had the same issues on their first releases. For you V6 6spd folks, our intake can adjust much better to the higher intake volumes unlike the limited VCM engines.
