Stumbled across this.

I sure hope Honda brings some of those deisel CRVs over, since low sulphur deisel is just around the corner. Many other manufacturers are also considering this, I hope Honda won't bury their head in the sand and only offer Hybrid tech as their only fuel efficient alternative.

I wish... but I am being told that "power rules" on this market therefore companies are not interested in bringing smaller diesels over.

Not just Honda... Mazda, Nissan etc...

My guess is - once the gas goes over $3-$4 that might change...

I think the primary reason is that diesels do not meet smog standards in the USA and are not happy with the piss water that we use as diesel fuel in this country. Mercedes is selling their E320 CDI in 49 states...not approved for sale in Cali. Cali, being what I believe is Honda's biggest market, is critical to the success of Honda diesels (IMO)

The low sulphur deisel will take care of a lot of the emission issues with it's availability in 2006 or so I read. And there are other means to deal with the particulates. Daimler, BMW and others are looking at the deisels for this market. And Honda already has a modern/advanced 2.2L deisel in Europe and has been studying the cleanup for North America.

Also, this is one possible recourse for manufacturers who haven't committed the time or expense to produce hybrid technology to gain a foothold in the fuel efficient vehicle market. And with already proven longevity/durability, which the hybrids have yet to prove.

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

Bimmer already has a diesel scheduled for the North American market. They are waiting for the cleaner fuel to meet our emission standards.

I would like for Honda to do the same.
