View Full Version : Water sneaks past my antenna...

So I found how the water is getting into my trunk, 3 ways:

1) It sneaks past my antenna (93 accord motorized antenna)

2) on the left side there is a rather large black box behind the trunk lining with a rubber flap. it seems to sneak in around this as well

3) on the right side, a very tiny amount gets in around a white rectangular tab about 1 cm x 0.5 cm, very strange...

for #1, I probably just need to replace the antenna as a whole (it makes the most horrible noises.) I just don't want some ghetto antenna from autozone. If I could get a short antenna like what is on the Element or the S2000, I'd be all about it.

for #2/3, I have no idea what these parts are, I'll take some pics later if it would help in IDing them, but it doesn't look like there are grommets for them, just holes in the body behind the bumper cover... any ideas?

hmpf.

need more info or pictures to help ID them....

As far as the antenna...it sounds like the rubber ring is brittle. The noise could be from water getting to the little motor that makes it move. They'll also be noisey when about worn out or if the mask is bent, but not enough to keep it from moving. You MAY need a motor & a mask... but replace the mask first.

Pics unfortunately will have to wait until next week as my baby is in the shop getting her head examined... (I'm talking about the car, not my fiancee :) ) hopefully everything will work out with that... so maybe this smilely is finally useful:

Taillight seals, yeah when this problem first manifested itself, I replaced those (which needed to be done since they were dry-rotted to hell.)

I then thought when the problem persisted that I hadn't torqued the seals down well enough, but they are nice and dry like they should be during the rain.

and, you're sure that it's just your antenna leaking? :dunno: did you replace the seals around the trunk?

In the attached pic, you'll see the black box (with flap) and a small white tab above which is leaking as well (this is all in addition to the antenna)

There is a tab on the right side of the trunk as well which is also leaking.
