View Full Version : Problem with new Goodyears Eagle GT's...
Darth Accord 03-24-2009, 09:08 AM Hey all, I'm new here. I recently had a set of Goodyear Eagle's GT's installed on my 2007 Accord to replace my wore out MXM4's. I love the way they looked and I also loved the price more! After about a day of driving on them I was not impressed at all! The car felt like it was an 89 Buick on the highway! They rebalanced them at least 3 times in a week and could never get them right.
Long story short I ended up exchanging them for more Michelin's in the end. The main question I have is have anyone else had any problems with this fairly new Goodyear tire or was it just me??? I was curious if I maybe ended up with a bad set or something...:dunno:
MSchu 03-24-2009, 10:46 AM I've never had issues with any of the goodyears I have had... but asking if anyone has had issues with goodyear in general is a pretty vast question. I have used eagle GS-D's and liked them for a long life entry level preformance tire. there are much better tires for outright performance.

I'm not asking if anyone had problems in general with them, just the new EAGLE GT'S . I've had Goodyears more times then I can count and have had NO problems. This is why I was asking. ;)
MSchu 03-24-2009, 11:17 AM Not being impressed is not really Goodyear's problem. Was there an actual technical issue or was it just your subjective lack of satisfaction?
rszappa1 03-24-2009, 12:38 PM I gave up on Goodyears years ago... I will stick with Michelins

YES, they couldn't be balanced...like I stated earlier. 3 times in a week and they were still not balanced when they came off. I would clearly say that was a *technical issue*. Not to mention they were like driving on ice!
One more thing, I didn't buy them looking for uber high performance tires. I needed a tire that drives and feels secure on the interstate, which these were far from feeling like. This is why I asked the question, had anyone had problems with EAGLE GT's, not every other tire Goodyear makes.
Sorry to have offended thee...:notworthy
sjlee 03-24-2009, 08:51 PM I'm still on the OEM Michelins, but from the survey results on TireRack, it looks like a decent tire... maybe you got a bad set?

maybe they installed it wrong - the GT is an asymetrical tread designed tire - it had to have said "mount this side out". If they didn't do that - that would've created vibration, traction problems and so forth... Those tires do have a very hard rim guard - so the sticky weights placed on the inner rim area had to have been CLEANED well before mounting... One main reason sticky weights fly off = rim still dirty where the weights go... But Im willing to bet they mounted the tires wrong... I had the GT's on my wife's car and they were the shiznit!

I agree, they were awesome handling tires on secondary roads. But for some reason when they were on the interstate it felt like the car was hitting ice or something. This was the main problem I had along with the vibration. The vibration was unreal at 81-85 mph. It was actually shaking the dash so hard that it seemed like it was going to come unbolted.
I wondered the same about them mounting them wrong. I ended up taking the car to two different locations and neither place found anything wrong with them, other then not being balanced. It's a shame really, I really liked the looks of them and the handling, minus how they handled on the interstate.
Who knows, I'm pretty much convinced I got a bad set...or a bad set of fools installing them. :lmao:
j-roc 03-25-2009, 05:31 PM I'd never buy Goodyear again. Wife's Focus had Eagle RSA and they were done with less than 20K miles. Came on my buddy's Mazda 3 sport too and wore out quick.

That's the thing. My wife's 2000 Beetle had RSA's and when the car was totaled at 140K we were on the second set of RSA's. Those things were amazing on a VW Beetle! They handled great, they looked good and they weren't too expensive. This is one of the reasons I decided to give Goodyear a shot on the Accord. Until the next set of tires I'm back on Michelin's, which isn't a bad thing. I was able to get around 38-39K on a set of MXM4's...that's not too terrible.
rszappa1 03-25-2009, 07:11 PM not bad I am at 66,000 on my OEM with 5/32nds still left...

OEM Michelins typically have very good longevity and low rolling resistance.
rszappa1 03-26-2009, 11:45 AM That is why I will go with the Primacy in the near future...

Not this exact tire, but it sounds very similar to my ongoing problem (http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showpost.php?p=379317&postcount=9) with the Goodyear TripleTreds that I purchased back in Nov. Looks like their production is very low quality nowadays.

tripletreads have a known problem with vibration-runout problems... if you take it to a shop and watch the tire when it's spinning on the balancer..if you see the tire skipping; tell them to try rotating the tire 180 degrees on the rim - reair and rebal... if the skipping is still there (assuming the rim is fine/true) then the tire is the culprit. They could always try match-mounting it too...
Can you tell I work for a Goodyear Autocenter? hahahaha.
Eagle GT problem with violent vibration at 80mph+ isn't a tire problem - it's a balancing problem period. They need to recal their balancer it seems...
Tripletread problem - well known. If match mounting isn't helping the tires should be able to be prorated as long as match mounting has failed to correct the problem and your tires dont have any uneven wear on them...Good luck!
rszappa1 03-27-2009, 12:58 PM Another good reason to stay away from BadYear...

The Primacy's are what I ended up exchanging the Goodyears for. We've had them now since March and they've been great! They handle good also. I was surprised to be honest, I figured they'd have a sloppy handling effect on the car. Not the case at all!
greg-ster 05-25-2009, 11:35 AM My TripleTreads on the Camry and Accord have been great so far - but the Accord has a problem with the rear tires vibrating at around 60mph. I'll look into having a Hunter Roadforce balance on them...
