View Full Version : 2005 Honda Sales Must be up, because prices are!
CA05LXDriver 07-01-2005, 11:48 AM So, I bought my car about 3 weeks ago, and scored a really good deal (17,299 for new '05LXSedanAuto) I'd been tracking prices on Edmunds and Carsdirect for some time for both Civics and Accords, and prices had been approximately the same for months. About two weeks ago, prices went up about a grand on Carsdirect(don't pay too close attention to the prices on edmunds because TMV price means you got ripped off). I don't think this had much to do with the Memorial holiday since the previous price level went back some time.
Either sales are up, honda has gotten fed up with internet sites, or honda just doesn't care about moving their remaining inventory. I'd guess that sales spiked.
Anyway, I'm happy to have gotten mine when I did, and I'm enjoying it.
By the way, for anyone looking to buy, the forums over at Edmunds.com are quite helpful to see what kind of deals some people are getting.
04blkpearlcoupe 07-01-2005, 01:51 PM Its probably because summer is the hottest season for car sales (no pun intended) so manufacturers know that they can charge more.
VTECaddict 07-01-2005, 03:49 PM i think the best time to buy is when the next model year starts to hit the dealer lots.

Unless you like the new features/look of the refreshed MY06 Accord.
rookie 07-01-2005, 05:23 PM People saw spy photos of 06 and want to get 05 while they still can?
OK, that was a little mean, I get it.

Agreed. I bought last October thru the dealer's internet sales. On top of the new models being there, they admitted to having a slow month and essentially sold the car at cost (invoice - factory incentives - free splash guards). Wish I had not wanted the car so badly and negotiated harder to see what their bottom was. :dunno: Although they told me it was a very tight deal, you always wonder.
BenjiBoy650 07-01-2005, 05:39 PM When I went to the dealer at the end of the month, they were really pushing us to buy an Odyssey EX-L. We were kinda torn so they kept pushing us, saying things like....$1000 under invoice! Which really meant...invoice minus holdback. But still not bad if I can say so myself...didn't go for it though. It'd suck to make a $30,000 mistake.

bought last october too. $1300 under invoice. they wouldnt even throw in $30 wheel locks though. the dealer we got the Pilot from put free wheel locks on ALL of their cars. :dunno:
Just saw on Kudlow and Company on CNBC yesterday that honda sales are up 4.X% last quarter.
And what are GM sales up?
Get ready for this: 41%. The first time GM has held top spot since '86. Who knew their employee discount would work out so good. Supposedly Chrysler is coming out with a similar discount relatively soon.
jdowen2 07-02-2005, 08:26 AM Chrysler is having a Employee sale plus $1,000 here in Phoenix. Today's paper had a ton of new car sales.
CA05LXDriver 07-03-2005, 03:30 PM Guess my hunch was right :naughty:
June was a record-setting month:

This is EXACTLY why I went to buy my 2005! I figured I would take the cash and run! Same car, and it doesn't look like it has a transplanted a##.
tryin 07-05-2005, 05:55 AM If you look at the chart, Accord sales were down 6.9 % compared to last year. Who would have thought five years ago that the majority of Honda's profit was coming from light trucks?

Probably not many of us figured that out, but you ask anyone in marketing, they probably all knew :)
