View Full Version : 2007 ex-l i-4 oil leak
Accordleather 03-29-2009, 08:40 PM Does anyone have any problems with their 07' Honda Accord oil leaking?
I had this problem ever since I bought the car brand new. I brought it to 3 different Honda dealerships and they can't fix it. Any suggestions?
The car currently has 23K miles.
The oil leak is coming from the right hand side (passenger side), right next to the timing chain area. The oil is not dripping to the floor...but I could see from the bottom of the car (passenger side arm chassy) oil residue. Between oil changes at every 5k miles, I would have to add about 1/4 to 1/2 a quart of oil every time.
Accordlover 03-29-2009, 08:50 PM There is not timing belt on your car.
Take a picture.
cajun 03-30-2009, 04:44 AM Your car is still under warranty, so three dealers saying they "can't fix it" is unacceptable. Bring it back to a dealer and demand that they do whatever they have to do in order to fix the oil leak. If they refuse call Honda Corp and tell them how p*ssed you are.

justin 03-30-2009, 06:08 AM its not just leftover oil from changing the filter? thats where the oil goes all the time when i change mine then spray cleaner on the axle to get it off, the cleaner and oil runs down the axle and drops on the lower control arm there.
CarlR33 03-30-2009, 07:27 AM +1, a good possibility.

gmech 03-30-2009, 03:48 PM Since he mentioned about adding oil periodically, I would assume there's in fact an oil leak. Take a picture and let us see... :paranoid:
I have a tough time cleaning up the oil drip after each oil change just like the others said, the way they place the oil filter on these K24 engines is not the most convenient spot. I use a piece of cardboard then shape it like a channel so it can direct the oil flow away from the sub-frame. (the black rectangular frame that supports the power train) :D
CarlR33 03-30-2009, 05:08 PM Common design on most cars now above the axle. My Saturn is the same way and has a built in drip channel to keep it off the axle. The owners manual states to not drip on the shaft. Yea right.

There's a chance he's burning oil, too.
Accordleather 03-30-2009, 09:06 PM Here is a picture of the oil leak. As you can see it is wet. Also, after the oil change which was done by the dealer this time (I always do my own oil change using the oil deflector so, as not to get oil dripping down to the lower arm )...I jack up the car and clean the whole area well. A few weeks later it is wet again. First dealer said it was coming from the valve cover gasket. So, they replaced the gasket. No difference. Went to another dealership # 2, they told me they found a small sippage of oil coming from the timing chain tensioner cap. So, they took that off and sealed it back again....no difference. Third, dealership didn't give a S***, they said it is normal for Honda to leak a bit. I'm bringing it in again this week to the dealership who sealed my timing chain tensioner cap to have them check it again since they told me not to add oil. This is frustrating!
By the way, the second dealership did a compression test on all cylinders and they tested ok at 180psi. Performed a cylinder leak down test on all cylinders. Cylinders less than 10% leakage.
Does anyone knows if this applies to the lemon law?
Thanks!

From my understanding of the lemon law you have to have multiple problems with the the vehicle for it to qualify, not one problem that you go to multiple dealers with.
Now that you have explained the problem a little better and have included pics, it does indeed appear that you have a leak. Why did you take it to three different dealers instead of just the one place? If you take it back to the same place then they know exactly what they have done/tried to do to fix the problem in the past. Sounds like dealership number two is doing the most work to help you out.

I thought the lemon law applies to one problem in which if one dealership cannot fix the problem in (X) amount to times then you can get a new car.
I am going with the second dealership since it is closer to me. Plus, the other two dealerships were not as knowledable.
So, what you all think the leak is coming from?
Accordleather 04-03-2009, 07:48 PM Picked up the car at the dealer. Dealer says they can't find the leak! :-(
So, they added some white powder all over the bottom of the car and added dye to the engine oil. They said bring it back in 1000k miles.
What you all think?

That sounds more like a problem with the dealership, not the car. If the problem cannot be resolved at that dealership and Honda Corporate gets involved, they'll have the car fixed properly elsewhere to your satisfaction (in most cases).

I'd say they're doing what they can to find the problem. I'm sure it's frustrating that you don't have answers yet, but atleast this dealership is doing something. I'd stick with them and keep whatever documents they give you, just in case the problem isn't resolved to your liking.
lpaudio2 04-04-2009, 04:52 AM Take the best dealership out of the 3. Go back and explain your situation to the service manager. Tell them you really want to get this problem fixed and that you would like to drop the car off and take a loaner, and that they should keep your car until it does not leak.
