View Full Version : GETTING TAILIGHT TInT
desiboy5291 03-30-2009, 12:08 PM Currently trying to purchase tail light tint. Here are links to the two sites that have it pre cut for me. Just wanted some feedback if anyone has bought the pre cut ones from either site? Also is it better to get pre cut or just get a roll and do it myself? Should i get a film or should i spray paint it with that special stuff from autozone?? Any other website you bought pre cuts from?? any other info/suggestions/hints.... thank you so much in advance.

glen you installed by yourself? how?
buttafizzle 03-30-2009, 01:15 PM i just got the rvinyl and they are ok. i could have taken more time to put them on (including reading the instructions ll) but overall they look pretty devent. it actually comes in 4 peices though and i had to do a little trimming but overall its ok and worth the 20 bucks i paid off ebay.

what level or name of tint did u get from rvinyl.com and does it look legit?
buttafizzle 03-30-2009, 01:38 PM it looks cool i guess. i plan on doing something better eventually. i got the dark smoke and its actually not too dark which i like. ill post some pics tonight after work. there are a few tiny bubbles but that my workmanship.
my main complain is that is would have been better to come in two peices than in four.
but keep in mind im in a sedan so it might be diferent for you.
glen e 03-30-2009, 02:08 PM the light smoke tint takes the bright red out of the tail light which is what I wanted. I imagine the mid tint is what you want if you want it to look totally diff than stock. That was not my intention. But the headlight armour is a nice precise quality kit.

that looks really nice but its too dark for me I want to keep mine for a while and i dont want the cops pulling me over. Im probably going to go with the 30% tint or the light smoke which is like 60%
i got precuts from rvinyl and they are good on the tailights i got the darkest ones they had and there not that dark. Kinda wish i would have done a sheet instead of precut because it was hard to cut over the whole piece evenly, they dont leave much room for error

Big O's Accord 03-30-2009, 05:12 PM yeah they are
desiboy5291 03-30-2009, 05:30 PM if i get the one like the morino red car those are not dark at all i believe they wont get me a ticket.
Strippers4Me 03-30-2009, 05:52 PM Just remember if you tint your tails....and someone slamms into your a$$ it's YOUR fault. I mean YOU can be sued and be held liable. Here is is visible at 500ft and I'm guessing just about anything more than a light haze will make you illegal.

dude chill i said i dont want the freaking dark as night ones i just want a light tint. i understand that I CAN BE SUED (CAPS ARE SO MUCH COOLER) but thats exactly why i want a light tint not really dark where u can see shit and not so light that you can't notice it. Ill just look around, worst come to worst ill just get the really light one.
5th honda 03-30-2009, 10:29 PM I've ordered the rvinyl light smoke tint - should be here any day now (USPS to Canada - two weeks). I think it pays to read the installation instructions online and to spend the few extra bucks on their intall products they offer - you'll understand why once you've read the instructions.
Before ordering from them I checked out a bunch of other car forums and their products got mostly good reviews. Most of the bad reviews were related to install issues, not the product itself.
glen e 03-31-2009, 02:30 AM you really don't need the install kit - I've been doin6 this for years with vinyl boat names. etc
1. get a windex spray bottle - put in 2 -3 DROPS of dishwashing soap
2. strip the backing off the tint and spray the sticky side and the tailight dripping wet
3, apply the tint and move it around until it's in the right position
4. squeegee the water/bubbles out with a credit card and MF towel
done
Dreamacre 03-31-2009, 03:45 AM Tailight tint is illegal correct?
Yes it is.
You people are playing a dangerous game so you can think you look cool. :thumbsdow

It all depends on what state you are in and the laws of that state.
For example I know for maryland as long as your tail lights are visible from 600 ft with a car with its light on behind you are legal. Check with your local laws and depending on how dark they are, they could still be legal.
Jusaccordin 03-31-2009, 04:43 AM just do a light smoke and you will be ok.............
kopimon 03-31-2009, 05:36 AM Those are expensive as hell (headlight armor) .. I would wait for bluebatmobile to release tail tints for our cars
lei1634 03-31-2009, 06:34 AM Tailight tint is illegal correct?
depends on the state, pretty sure they are in Cali
edit, took to long to answer
lei1634 03-31-2009, 06:36 AM dont forget we all have a bright ass third brake light, if people cant see that. then they shouldnt be on the road

never had a problem paying for quality - the cut is perfect with small tabs for you to hold to position it and then cut off with a blade...without them you screw up the edges moving it around and pulling it.. They go on without a single bubble and look excellent...

I'm happy for your success. However, your instructions don't match Rvinyl's. Also, most of the members here won't be doing this on a regular basis like you have, and therefore will benefit from the available tools designed to work with the specific film selected. You also omit the most important step in the process, namely the need to clean the tail light in the manner the manufacturer recommends.
From Rvinyl's website:
"For proper adhesion, clean all surfaces using a 2:1 mixture of water to Isopropyl alcohol, Prepsol, or cleaning solutions.
Use a clean, lint-free cloth to cleanse the application area. Insure it is dry and all oils and residues have been removed prior to application.
A good test is to see if masking tape will stick to the application surface, if it sticks then the surface is ready for application. If it does not stick then further cleaning may be necessary.
Rvinyl recommends the use of an application squeegee which will reduce air bubbles during installation and aide in heat conforming the tail light film. By using a low friction sleeve, you will reduce the chance of scratching your tail light tint during application. Application solutions such as Rapid Clear will remove any dirt or debris from your lights and Rapid Tac will aide in the wet application of our tail light tint kits. We strongly recommend the use of these products to achieve professional results."
I elected to spend the extra $17.98 for the application tools.

hey man, i was ordering the same ones for my sedan and when u install them please let me know how the installation was, and please post some pictures. Thanks man :)
glen e 04-01-2009, 09:37 AM honestly, it's not that hard or need to be that precise, if the taillight is clean, the film will never come off accidentally - ask a tint guy...the install kit is like buying the rustproofing, but what ever works for you is the important thing...
