Big O's Accord 03-30-2009, 05:11 PM so i decided to take off my taillight tints and get lighter front windows..i love it soo much but i have to take it off..i got stopped 3 times
1st. one was near a court in west covina..
2nd. This guy was an asshole he stopped me last month it was raining soo hard and wanted to put my windows will it was pouring.
3nd. was this past saturday i was driving the 110 south when this cop finished giving a ticket and then 10 mins later he decided come from the carpool lane and stop me..
Yeah i know..
Soo the only thing is when i got the taillights tint it was painted does anybody know how take it off without damaging the taillights..itself or lose the shine of the plastic..
Aviography 03-30-2009, 05:20 PM Don't know how to tell you, but you are screwed, you are likely going to have to sand the paint off and then polish the plastic, not an easy thing to do.
I'm not at all surprised you got pulled over considering how dark your window tint is and how dark your tail lights are, guess you've learned a harsh lesson.
YRMed 03-30-2009, 05:24 PM It's okay, the young'ns be made of LOOT! Here I am trying to rub 2 pennies together and these guys getting not 1, not 2, but 3 tickets ... i can't even imagine affording that. If i got 3 tickets, i wouldn't be able to eat for a month and a half, cause i wouldn't be able to afford it.
Gosha 03-30-2009, 05:34 PM good, hope this serves you a lesson to not break the law next time. i am tired of assholes with their tinted tail lights where you cant see a damn thing.
evidently, statistically its white cars that receive the most tickets, and not red cars, which is contrary to popular belief... supposedly its because of the volume of white cars as opposed to red ones.
has anyone else beisdes me heard this?
in any case that's some tough luck there, sorry man.
Here in Jersey, while still on your provisional license you cannot have more than one person who is not your immediate family member in the car with you...that said, one afternoon returning from lunch, my car was full of other kids and sure enough there was a cop sitting right outside the student parking lot..he managed to give out 10 tickets in 5 minutes, and at $140 a piece, you know that guy got his bonus that month.
My own stupidity earned me that one, but by the same token, sometimes you just catch bad breaks I guess.
arasheht 03-30-2009, 05:39 PM To the OP, sucks that they had to warn you three times, but after the first two you should have probably taken those warnings seriously.

YRMed, I think that's a bit exaggerated. Now I may not know your financial situation, but you do drive a 2009 model V6 Accord (which are not cheap). In addition to that you probably spent ~$100 on the switchblade key (including cutting I'm assuming), and another $1000 on winter rims and tires, if not more (assuming they are not transferred from another vehicle).
Strippers4Me 03-30-2009, 05:45 PM good, hope this serves you a lesson to not break the law next time. i am tired of assholes with their tinted tail lights where you cant see a damn thing.
I'm not going to be near that harsh but, the tinted tails thing kind of pisses me off too. I want to see you at night or when you hit your brakes!
As far as the window tint goes, that's why I don't tint mine that dark anymore and have went to 32%, in Ohio that's still a $100 donation to the PD. I live with it because I like tint and don't like people peeking in my vehicle, so if I get a ticket and pay it and go on with my life....
zexen 03-30-2009, 05:47 PM arash has a point, YRM. You don't exactly sound like you're having financial trouble with new Borbet's awaiting the summer months.
And I also don't think he got 3 tickets. That's jumping to conclusions. All he stated was that he was "stopped" 3 times. Says nothing about tickets from what I've read.
To the OP:
Replace the taillights by buying new/ebay ones. you won't have any good come out of trying to strip and clear the ones you have. Learn your lesson once, and it will stick with you (hopefully for life)
nighthawkcoupe 03-30-2009, 05:50 PM Sucks that you essentially had to waste money on these mods, but you must have expected that when you do illegal attention-grabbing things to your car, you will get pulled over for it.
I doubt the taillights can be salvaged without sanding/polishing (as mentioned above) if that tint is indeed painted on.
RTexasF 03-30-2009, 05:50 PM This guy was an asshole he stopped me last month it was raining soo hard and wanted to put my windows will it was pouring.
Anyone have a universal translator for that sentence? :dunno:
LRP_Accord 03-30-2009, 05:55 PM maybe try and sell/trade the tails to someone on here.

The officer was an a-hole, and wanted him to put down his windows even though it was raining.
I guess it was worse for him to open the window than the official standing outside his car in the rain...
AznX TL 03-30-2009, 05:58 PM try using paint thinner.

i wanna try it but i think ill damage the plastic
zexen 03-30-2009, 06:02 PM You will. You'll need to get a clear plastic coater (sold at Home Depot) forgot what it's called. Same coater used when un-hazing headlights.
Check eBay or ask someone here to swap.

its 150.oo bucks for the each ticket..
but i can fix it and only pay less than that

Worst case scenario: you will need to apply grease/oil onto the taillights every time you wash it to rejuvenate the matte/dull plastic.
I'm not a professional detailer, but I would assume that some sort of TurtleWax may make it shine again, assuming that the paint-thinner idea works.

Bro, on the real now, games and tomfoolery aside:
Buy 2 new lenses. I know it costs money, but if you use paint thinner on your lenses, that stuff is strong, it'll melt the lenses and then to return it back to glossy will be a PITA. Then, eBay you lenses to someone. I know they will sell because there is atleast 20,000 Gen 8 coupe drivers, im sure any of them would want ot trick out their ride on the cheap. Besides, the way your lenses are done is actually tasteful, its just not legal in many states.
The whole entire Taillight assembl is 104 bills/per (Majestic Honda .com). So, for a rough 210+shipping you back to square 1. Sell your modified tail lights for 100 to 150 bucks and your out 60-70 dollars. Which is not so bad after all.

I think you both fail a little there .. it's his car and he modified it in his own style and image .. He's an adult, he made his own decisions, he's aware of the consequences and he accepts them .. neither of you has any right to belittle him
lei1634 03-31-2009, 06:30 AM people are blowing tints way out of proportion. Im used to having limo tint all the way around and taillights so dark you cant see them at night. I dont on this car because I bought it to avoid getting pulled over. Although tinted taillights are legal in my state. If you want to have them then by all means do it, if you have to pay a few tickets along the way so be it. It looks a hundered times better than a stock one. If people cant afford to pay tickets maybe they sholdnt buy a $25k car. By the way, ill trade you my stock ones if your willing

YRMed 03-31-2009, 07:10 AM That advice was not really advice, it was verbal diarrhea. When someone starts speaking from their posterior, I tend to comment. Besides, i'm not too far off with the 9th/10th grade comment. He's probably in HS or 1st year of college. Anyhow, I'm done talking about this. ... And, it WASN'T good advice on his part, its illogical. "Pay the violation tickets (repeatedly) just to be an individual" .. that's just dumb.

Osiris_x11 03-31-2009, 05:23 PM On-topic... try some fiberglass paint remover (www.kleanstripauto.com), bumper stripper, plastic-safe model paint stripper -> "Chameleon" / "Easy Lift Off" (ELO), or even DOT-3 brake fluid. All of them will work effectively w/o damaging the acrylic covering of the Stanley-taillights. . .

A couple things here I need to chime in on-
1. lei1634 already told you they'd trade stockers with you
2. I agree that cops screw with imports and yet sooooo many unsafe mods on street rods are legal, I dont agree with this.
3. I have limo tint and have been pulled over, its stupid but I have always had dark tint and always will
4. I am a cop, albeit a federal one who doesnt pull over people but your statement is stupid. When you get pulled over you are being detained and you're lucky that cop didn't make you stand our in the rain yourself. With your attitude I would have been tempted...
We call this the felony broken tail-light stop...

Considering your windows are tinted, I think the cop wanted you to keep it down so that he could keep an eye on what you were doing. Think about it... if you were in his shoes, don't you think he'd want to make sure you weren't reaching for anything?

I could be wrong (maybe one of the law enforcement officers here can confirm), but I think that they prefer that you stay in your car so that they can keep an eye on you. Once you're out of the car, it's much easier for you to run or try to get physical with them.
At least he didn't have you step outside the car and stand in the rain.
