Almost everyone who upgraded the rear speakers in their 8th gen is familiar with the compass issue. The powerful magnets of aftermarket speakers throw off the compass. I was Dynamatting my trunk this weekend and I found the compass unit just kind of hanging there. I guess I must have dislodged it as I was pulling out the carpet lining.
First, does anyone know where this thing sits normally? It looks like it attaches somewhere with a screw or clip.
Second, I was thinking that relocating it further away from the speakers will correct the issue. Any thoughts?

I moved my compass further away from the speakers and mounted it with double-sided tape. It was still giving wrong headings so I'll have to calibrate it and make sure the zone is correct (page 206 in the manual).
Des, thanks, I'll hit you up on AIM tonight around 7pm when I get home

Hey guy's I'm new to all of this, but does the initial post imply that if you upgrade the rear speakers, not the sub but just the left and right speakers, the compass for the navigation get's screwed up?
I have an '08 EX-L navi and was hoping to make some changes to the speakers, would I be better off just changing the front speakers and nothing else?
Thanks.

Navi equipped cars don't have this problem as our compass' are in the gps. It's the EX/EX-L non-NAVI that do if memory serves me right. I've changed ALL my speakers and Fact. sub with another 8 and no probs. You'll be fine bro.

A&F...
So if I can be sure here, the EXL Navi isnt affected by larger speakers being installed in the rear deck because the compass is located elsewhere on those cars?
I read what you've got done in your car, did you change the headunit or can adding an amp and new speakers be done while retaining the standard unit?
Thanks,

Desmond is my name..lol. And no deck or I would have included it in my sig. ;). I'm not being an ass but your question was already answered in my sig... As far as navi being affected, it did not.
