View Full Version : Sedan Rear View
shadow85 04-01-2009, 04:19 PM I have a hard time parallel parking my sedan. Using the side mirror, if I really tried hard, I can only see up to the gas cover. Looking through the rear window, I can't see the trunk at all. Any one find this an annoying small issue? Any thoughts/comments?
Honda247 04-01-2009, 04:23 PM Nope... I see fine....
just02 04-01-2009, 04:25 PM No problem here, either. In fact, I find the 8th generation easier to parallel park then the 7.5 generation.
shadow85 04-01-2009, 06:04 PM Guess over time i will have a better guess as to where the absolute rear of the car is.

Get a backup cam (if u have nav, or go with an aftermarket nav radio), or some backup sensors, and call it a day.
Yeah visibility out the back is horrible. I guess thats why they have the backup sensors. I need to get some...
walhaddi 04-01-2009, 06:47 PM Yeah man the rear visibility is bad on the Accord. I still don't understand why some people come here and act like its a PERFECT car.
All cars or at least most got issues.
Me too I can barely see the trunk.
Go outside and look how the car is. The Accord is not 100% straight and I know thats how it is and yes some cars are like that. But when you see how the nose dips down you will understand that sitting inside it will be hard to get a good view through the rear view.

Try increasing the height of the seat next time you park. Helps a lot and it's quite easy (if you have electric seats that is).
Stephen83 04-02-2009, 07:31 AM It may deflate your ego but the best way to learn is by getting out of the car and looking to see how far you have to go. You can turn your head inside to see how the car behind you look (use the bottom of the window to see where it lines up with the other car" front bumper, hood or bottom of their windshield) is and then get out to see how far it really is, then back up slowly. If unsure get out again.
I find that generally speaking, when the bottom of the windshield of the car behind me lines up with the bottom of my rear window, it is close enough. It gives about 1 to 2 feet of space. Raising the seat to the highest setting also helps.
partsman 04-02-2009, 07:36 AM I have found also that rasing the seat height helps and the park sensors are worth the money in my book.
AgentWashington 04-02-2009, 11:32 AM I had a hard time judging rear distance at first too, but I just swallowed my pride quite a few times and got out of my car to check how far I was away and compared that to the image in my mirrors, didn't take too long to learn.
I had this exact same issue when I got my car. I thought I would get used to judging the distance behind me but never caught on. I finally gave up and got a rear view camera. It is absolutely the best addition I ever made to a car. Never any problems now. I was debating between the cam and the sensors but settled on the cam after dicussing it with my dealer (btw the sensors are more money).

PMCErnie 04-03-2009, 12:58 PM It's horrid. So, I never parallel park.
sodaks2k 04-03-2009, 01:14 PM I open my door as I back up to see how much room I have. :dunno:
Osiris_x11 04-03-2009, 01:26 PM I got the opposite problem! Regarding my 8th gen' sedan, reversing/parallel-parking/etc' are a piece of cake for me, whereas frontal depth-perception/distance-estimation is still iffy for me!

Well, for me and my height/seating position, I pull up until I can see the barrier I'm getting closer to come under my driver's side mirror. Like, if I'm pulling into a spot at say, Wal-Mart, I pull in until the white line comes into my field of view from underneath my mirror, then I know I have about 4-6 inches between the front of my bumper and whatever I'm getting close to.
I'm not sure if that made sense, but yeah.
npolite 04-03-2009, 02:53 PM I have to agree with the OP. Since the 7th gen they have reduced the size of the rear window. It is indeed harder to park the car than our 6th gen Accord. I think the window is all funky because they want more trunk space?
The other thing I find annoying on my sister's car is the headrests, I can't see very well out the driver's rear window.
HenryFL 04-03-2009, 04:03 PM The day I test drove my exl ,I noticed how hard it was for me to back up. I told the dealer to install a rearview camera or I walk-he did:)

and probably charged you for it (without you knowing may be)

That's one way I use to judge my front space. Same idea if you're pulling up to a parking space that has a curb in front of you or a wall. The other way is I have my seat raised to the highest position (all the time) and when I pull behind someone to park/red light, I know the limit (about 2 ft) when my hood just covers the top of the rear bumper of the guy in front of me. I'm more comfortable judging the front than the back.
bok269 04-03-2009, 11:45 PM I've noticed the same thing on my 06. I've gotten better at it over time, but what I plan to do is put cones at the corners of my car while it's parked, sit in the driver's seat and just get a better visual feel for where the corners are. I also drove my friend's 8th gen Civic yesterday and had similar issues. You just need to get used to driving a given car.
