Yeah, some guy on the radio said he paid $100 to fill up his X5 tank. Had to laugh at that fool lol, his tank is only 24.6 gallons, you do the math and tell me how much he paid per gallon in order for him to be telling the truth.

We plan a few boating trips & it's got a 30 gal tank....

We don't usually fill it up at home so it's not as heavy for towing.... so we'll be paying prices closer to the areas we'll be going. For day trips, Valley Springs... when we use Hogan's Res. For Shasta, Lakehead. We don't usually fill it in the water since they add about .50 per gallon. We launch daily, so we fill it on the way each morning. So empty & getting close to 3 dollars per gallon..... that's getting way close to 100!! The first tank will be the worst one... we store it near empty or near full only. Usually near empty.

Prices were worse a few months back.... they've settle into a slower rise for the Summer. They always jump in the Spring. Then we all take our vacations anyway.... & prove AAA people wrong! We ARE still driving! What a shock! :paranoid: We like to drive! Most of us will eat at cheaper places en route to still drive to where we want to go. I wonder if they've done a study (for billions, of course) on the fast food profits when gas prices are higher.... :dunno:

So share those fries & away we goooooo........

The weirdest thing is that Shell and Chevron are the absolute cheapest stations around here. There's 4 of them within about a mile and they are at rock bottom prices, they're even cheaper than Costco gas when I factor in the 5% I get back from Citibank. They even undercut every independent station!

Even the Arco next to Crispy Creame? Costco is 7-10 cents cheaper, but if you factor in 5%, you are right the majors are cheaper. Gee, the most I've seen the Cheveron @280 & 19th was $3.19. It really doesn't matter as a few cents either way isn't gonna really matter if gas is over $3.00. BTW, how does that Citi card 5% deal work? Might be worth looking into...Thanks.

Here's the site I came up with. The addy seems kinda long...if it doesn't work, just go to www.citicards.com and look for the Dividend Platinum card.

First of all - since we've been married (Oct. '71), ... we've paid off our 1st and presently owned Credit Cards with each monthly statement, ... so, ... since 1975, our Credit Rating = AAA!!!

We shop @ Costco allot so we have the Executive Card.

The Executive Card Members enjoy an annual 2% Reward on most Costco purchases, as well as additional values on member services.

Last annual check from Costco was around $145.00 (or more ? - my wife gets those checks  )

>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

There was no cost getting their American Express TrueEarnings Card and once Sunnyvale and Santa Clara Gas Pumps were modified to only use their American Express card - getting that was a no-brainer.

With the TrueEarnings Card from Costco and American Express you can earn a full 3% cash back at any restaurant, even for takeout or delivery. And every other time you use the TrueEarnings Card you can earn 1% cash back, including at Costco.

TrueEarnings Card from Costco and American Express - Year To Date

Qualified................ Spend $...............Cash Rebate $
Eating Out............. $589.99 @3%.... $17.70
Traveling................ $458.05 @2%... $9.16
Everywhere Else.. $2,661.45 @1%. $26.62
==================================
Total...................... $3,709.49.............. $53.48

Last check we received from AMEX was around $95.00 (or more ? - my wife gets those checks  )

>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Now, for other on-line purchases, ... I like to use eBates and by using their affiliates, I get Rebates** @ Palm 4%; HP Home HP Shopping 2%; 123Inkjets 10%; 1-800-FLOWERS 6%; Best Buy 1%; Circuit City 2%; etc. eBates will send me a check, once every 3-months, ... if my Rebates Balance is over $5.00.

Last 05/15/2005, eBates Mailed me $14.76

Total Cash Back since I joined eBates (around Oct. 2002) = $161.60

**Some of my eBates electronic/ computer purchases includes an additional $10; $15 or $20 MFG. Rebates. My last 256MB Secure Digital Card costs me around $6.50 after all the above (eBates & MFG.) rebates!!!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I put all those on-line purchases on my Cash Back Discover Card.

My Cash Back Bonus Summary:
Current Balance $ 78.96
Available to Redeem $ 60.00

So, our entire purchasing process deals includes some form of Cash Back or Rebate program! Gotta' stretch our money, especially so since we live in one of the highest cost-of-living area in Silicon Valley!!!

Using Costco gas is just part of our Cash Back / Rebate scheme!

Saving and stretching our cash since the mid 70's enabled us to pay cash for my 2005 Accord!!! (Paid cash for our 1993 Accord LX Sedan also - the 2004 Pilot EX-L w/NAV is my wifes Realestate business deduction so we just put down $10k and got a loan for the rest @ our Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union)

Let's all be glad we're not in Europe :)

I talked to my Dad this weekend (he lives in England), and he said that gas there has just hit the 5UKP per imperial gallon, which works out as follows:

1UKP = 1.81144USD today, and an imperial gallon is 1.25 US gallons, therefore 5UKP = 9.0572USD per imp gallon and...

$7.25 per US gallon :censored:

News this morning reported the national average at $2.50. Two stations here are $2.39 and $2.54 across the street from each other.

Glad I moved last year to cut down on the miles we drive, especially with 4 vehicle and 4 drivers.

I did not vote in the poll as it does not reflect the time period of the results and is thus not very meaningful.

Can you think of any reason WHY the U.S. is so priveleged to have an unrationed supply of the cheapest gas in world? Is this really a good thing?

I think the costs of the gasoline are very similar, it's just that European governments TAX the heck out of it. If I remember correctly, the UK government taxes on gasoline are about 75%.

All I know is, I'm really glad I don't have to pay that much for gasoline any more :) I spent too many years driving very small European cars on very narrow roads, having to pay to park to go shopping and paying too much for gas.

...ok, I'll make you all feel a little better, here in BC, in the 'great white north', we're paying close to $4.00 canadian for a gallon...the price right now here in Victoria is $1.04 per litre, which works out to around $3.80 per US gallon...and they're saying it could hit $1.50 per litre before the end of summer!! Now you know why I take all my vacations south of the border, as a matter of fact I've already got my second road trip planned for the new EX-L, going to head south to Monterey in mid September, stay there for several days and then head over to Yosemite for a few more days before we work our way back north to stay a while in Portland Oregon where I grew up...sometimes the cost of things up here really makes me more than a bit homesick for the good ol' US of A, but my wife is a born and raised Victorian who can't stand to be that far away from mom and dad - but I'm workin' on her...maybe a couple more years, she always waits 'til we get down before she does any serious shopping, so she is getting accustomed to US ways...
...anyway, when you compare what some folks are paying in other parts of the world, US gas prices are still a lot better than in many other places.

cheers,

Heard about the following website on KGO Radio this morning ...

Gasbuddy.com - Real-Time Gas Price INFO (http://www.gasbuddy.com/)

Main City US and Canada locations, ... though smaller city areas are not included like my 94043 area code location. Typing in my zip code brings up the San Jose Gas Station locations where the lowest per Gal = $2.59 @ Arco 1256 E Julian St.

Anyway, get the "Lowest Regular Gas Prices in the Last 60 Hours" for Regular Gas and Diesel Fuel from this website!

That site is good, but the biggest problem with it is the prices are reported by consumers. Most of the time, there aren't enough people reporting or the places with the lowest prices aren't reported. :dunno: There's a Hess station around where I work that usually has the lowest prices around but I don't usually see it reported on that site. Maybe once a week it'll be on there. :dunno:

Still waiting for a site that provides realtime gas price info for each gas station...

Wish there was a standard for reporting gas prices. Each gas station should be made to report to a database so that consumers can price shop.

I just paid $2.73 for regular this morning and that is low around here. I've been following the crude oil prices in the commodities market and we should expect a nice drop in gas prices in about a week or so. I'm thinking it will be around 10-15 cents a gallon or more. How long will it last is the real question.

Bear in mind that much of the price of gas these days is as a result of non-price of oil related stuff, such as non-petroleum additives and taxes.
