View Full Version : Trunk spring dimensions
am-radio 04-06-2009, 01:39 PM Hi, I am going to be installing a trunk lip spoiler and want to just make a spring tool. It's a simple design, just wondering if anyone has one that they can take a few dimensions for me. Length of handle, length of tube and inside diameter of tube.
richpor 04-06-2009, 03:28 PM I can't help you, but pls post when you do figure out how to make it, i have the same project to do once the snow stops....
03LXV6 04-06-2009, 04:34 PM a pair of Channel Lock pliers can do the trick. Might be easier than making the tool.
RTexasF 04-06-2009, 04:37 PM A set of heavier springs is required. There is no need to design a tool, I adjusted mine with a piece of broomstick. The new springs require a specific tool to remove the old and install the new.

I bought a new Honda spoiler and it comes with hardware and new springs. I need the tool in the picture in post #1. From what I've read, the tool will make life much easier for install. I don't want to design one, I just want to make the tool in the picture to remove the old springs and install the new ones.
RTexasF 04-06-2009, 05:26 PM Why not purchase it then sell it? Sometime back there was one here on the forum that was sent to the next guy that needed it for the cost of shipping. That was a while ago, I don't know what happened to the thread. It's only about twenty bucks for the tool, not a dealbreaker.

$20 US, but locally in Canada, my local dealership said don't bother, its 50 or 60 can. And to buy from the states for $20 and pay dealership shipping costs doesn't make sense. All I need is a metal rod with a bent end and then weld a small tube on it to slide over the springs. Easy to make and much cheaper than buying. Just need dimensions and tube ID.
RTexasF 04-06-2009, 05:58 PM I gotcha, that makes great sense considering the money involved. Dumbass on me for not looking at your avatar/location, sorry.
frostnyc 04-06-2009, 09:06 PM yeah, I'm def going to need one of those.. my spoiler gets here friday.
Aviography 04-07-2009, 03:44 AM Here's another thought if OP hasn't actually ordered the spring yet, my car was pre-owned and came with an aftermarket rear wing/spoiler, it looks just like the OEM one with integral LED brake light, it's obviously not light in weight and I doubt the Honda dealership which installed it put the stronger spring while doing so, so the trunk would only crack open a hair when I unlock it with the remote.
It doesn't really bother me since it's hard to see if I accidentally unlocked it, so someone happened to walk by cannot tell the trunk is open.
So why not just keep the stock spring? The trunk will stay open just fine once fully opend by hand.
am-radio 04-07-2009, 05:51 AM A much better picture of what I want to make
