Hello again,
I'm about to start doing maintenance on my accord and I was wondering if anyone has changed the filter on an 04 4cyl. What kind of filter wrench is more effective: band, plier, or socket type? I would rather know before I get under it. In my manual the picture looks like there might not be room for pliers or the band type. :dunno:

I use a small filter wrench that is basically a thin metal band that wraps around the filter and tightens as the handle is turned. i'll take a pic of it and post it later. it is the only one I found that is small enough to fit the filter and fit into the space around the filter. I got it at either pep boys or autozone. Can't remember which.

Here's a couple of choices:

Bought one just like these @ Pep Boys for $2.00 and it works just fine.

It should never be too tight to remove by hand. (For most people ;) )

If it is too tight, the tip I received from a neighbor was to stick a screwdriver into it to give you extra torque. Never tried it so I won't say it works. The guy also nicely pointed out that if you stick the thing in and it still won't budge, now not only is it not coming off, but your car ain't goin anywhere :)

Yep screwdriver works , have done it before.. BUT be prepared for a mess

If screwdriver fails.. Then I move to a chisel and cut it off!!

Personally used many times. Just don't spear the mount.

Most commonly used for the first change after purchase of a new car, or if done at any shop other than mine (my garage) the last time.

And I love when they use an impact wrench for the drain plug.... That's why I now have an oil extractor: will never again touch another drain plug.

true, which is why I dont understand why the "professional" folks at jiffy lube used to tighten mine so much that I almost couldn't get if off with a wrench :dunno:

Where did you get that oil extractor?????????

Is it a Fumoto? If so what size and do you need an adaptor?
