well, i was driving down to norfolk early thursday mrng...... i was already in VA, going about 55-60..... something darted in front on my car, not sure what it was..... i swerve into the grass median, hoping that i didn't lose control..... it was hard enough that i was able to coax my car back onto the highway, and then pull over ASAP to check for damage. didn't see anything.....

fast forward to this morning: i was stuck in traffic on i-95 N, heading back to philly for work...... next thing you know, my oil light flickers a bit, then goes off, then comes back on, then starts flashing.... i pull over, check the dipstick for the oil level: it was BONE DRY!!! :dunno: :paranoid: :thumbsdow i couldn't figure out how this was possible, considering i looked under the car at the closest lighted area (gas station) thursday mrng, and saw nothing wrong.

btw, checked around the engine..... did not see any signs of oil leaking anywhere. head gasket looked fine (oil free).

i have noticed that over the past week, i would have low oil pressure for the first 1-2 seconds after cold start-up...... question is, where did the oil go???? didn't notice any signs of blue smoke, even if i really got on it hard. it has to be leaking somewhere..... car is not overheating, and pretty sure that the oil is not seeping into the coolant.....

HELP!!!!! :dunno: :paranoid: :sorry: :censored: :boohoo: :bawl: :wavebye:   :stupid:

i already know the real fix is to get a new car....... can't do that at the moment, or else would have about a month ago....

If I were you, I would buy a new Accord asap. Your car is not going to last that long anymore, she has been giving you hints that she is tired & needs to be put to pasture.

but, up to this point, she has never lost oil....

i'm thinking that it has something to do with the new oil pan....

Maybe there is a hidden compartment in your oil pan that you don't know about. :naughty:

would that compartment hold the check the will pay for my new 05??? :naughty: :lmao:

I hate to be mr. negativity here, but you know that honda's last forever (which unfortunately we both seem to be running against the end of forever) so I would go pick up a good 00-02 Accord EX and bask in all the nice new things that you don't have like SOHC VTEC, a bigger body, etc...

You'll save thousands over getting a 05 LX and you'll enjoy all the nice things an older Accord EX has over a brand new EX. (and if you really want a 7th gen, I'm sure there are cheap 03's to be had.) No need to pay the thousands of depreciation.

how long ago did you check the oil before you found out it was bone dry? I had a crx with very high mileage and it would burn about 1/2 quart every 500 miles although there was no smoke or visible oil leaks. I even had a mechanic look at it to make sure it was not smoking because I needed to pass a smog check (and it passed). so what Im saying is that its probably just old age, or more specifically, its worn piston ring seals.

the good news is that all you have to do is keep adding oil and it should run fine until the rings wear out so much that you start getting the dreaded black smoke.

Ummmm, back to the oil thing..... Yes, the oil pan may be the culprit. They may not have got it on tight enough. Have you seen oil where you park? Had you checked the oil level AFTER the repair? Was this your first real trip since the pan? Did you hit anything during your swerve? Look for new slime on & around the oil pan.

That's where I'd start. The same place that did the pan should check it out. Make them tell you where it went! If they forgot something, you may never know, but it might get miraculously fixed.

Oil can only got 2 places...either it burned or it leaked. My guess is that it leaked.

"forever" isn't as long as it used to be! :paranoid:

Oh yeah, the visable gasket you'd be looking at is the valve cover gasket, not the head gasket. So it seems you don't have a leak on the top end.... so if there is one it's the bottom.

:dunno:

Good luck on this!!!

i know the oil is leaking under the car.... pulled away from work last night, and got out of my car...... sure enough, four small circles of oil in the parking spot......

So can you make a case that the faulty oil pan repaire warrants a replacement engine ??? Just think how much longer you might be able to drive this car !!! Talk about "pulling' a stiller"

not trying to push it...... the engine runs fine....... you have to remember though that once everything is straightened out, i'll be getting my new 05...

for one thing, i can't fit in the sedan comfortably... would have to get a coupe. second, maybe get a 5-spd in the 98-02 coupe...... third, how good are the electronics and HVAC????

HVAC works fine, kinda noisy. For electronics the main problems I know about are stupid little bulbs burning out and the door lock actuators...seen three go out so far.

i prefer noisy..... that way i know that it's working hard to try to do its job..... don't like only having 4 speeds on it though.....

How many ya want? 20? The $45,000 (new) 86 Benz in our garage only has three...low, high, auto...lol it's the most pathetic concoction in the history of the car

Well one of the nice things about the 6th gen is the lack of integrated electronics, meaning you can sub in that double DIN head unit with the navigation and DVD video playback you always wanted.

As for the A/C, my fiance's '02 Accord VP had great A/C even down here in sweltering georgia... (not to mention my mom's 98 LX, which had equally good A/C)

stiller fan
07-10-2005, 05:31 PM
did the VP come with cruise?

magitekkn
07-10-2005, 05:53 PM
Ha! No the VP came with (wait for it):

Air Conditioning
Single CD Player
Auto Tranny

and I think even the DX came with A/C... so no, I wouldn't recommend the VP, no power accessories, no cruise, no nothing...

(and yet she loved that car more than my 93 LX... hmpf)

then, i will be buying the lx.....

you mean the VP didn't come with power windows/ locks?

looked more at the dealer after dropping off my car thursday eve...... liked what i saw.

car fixed...... oil pan gasket split in two at one of the corners.... fixed free of charge, but still had to pay for labor and parts for oil change..... :selavie: no charge for oil though... :D

stopped for cigs last night..... turned car on, and car was smoking.... immediately turned car off, checked oil, and looked underneath for leaks.... nothing. however, i believe that when they dropped the pan to replace the gasket, some of the oil may have spilled onto the exhaust (faint blue smoke)...... :headbash: :furious:

almost ready to start looking for another mechanic.... :sorry:

still not sure if i should get the AT or MT....... it seems like with the MT that i wouldn't have alot of foot room (leg room is fine)..... trying to push the clutch and brake pedals in with size 13 shoes can be tricky...... :dunno:

Glad you got it fixed. Why would you look for a new mechanic? It seems the guy who fixed your car was pretty fair when it came to charging you. A little oil on the exhaust system may seem a little scarry upon initial startup but will burn off and won't cause any damage.

princess

Even a handprint on the exhaust will smoke until it burns off.... so wait before you get upset.... if it smokes after a day or two of driving, take it back!

If you were in the Atlanta area I could recommend a mechanic. But I certainly know what you mean about burning oil. My '93 EX has 237k-ish on it and I go through about 1 1/2 qts every 3,000 miles. She's a tough beast but it's getting close to replacement time for me. With a 40 mile commute each way to and from work, I don't know how much longer she's going to be toodling along.

my car's engine is very strong for her age, i.e. burns no oil......

i do think that i need a valve adjustment (hearing them tick more at idle now than before.... hopefully not from low/no oil incident last week) :paranoid:

loved the signature..... will it a honda moped i hope??? :lmao:

hopefully, noone will try to force you into a new car like they're doing to me here.... :lmao: ;) :joker:
