: Cleaned my throttle body

Just cleaned my throttle body. I had my dealer clean it at 40K b/c my pedal was sticking first thing on cold mornings. It was pretty nasty at 68K (see pic), so I'm wondering how good of a job they did. I'll see if I did a good job the next morning I start the car. Probably wishful thinking, but the car felt a little more responsive when I took it for a drive. It didn't shove me back in my seat, but it felt like the car jumped a little better with a lighter touch of the pedal. The job is pretty straightforward, but here are a few lessons learned:

-Have a new gasket and a good scraper ready. This would have been a quick job if I didn't have to scrape the old gasket off of both surfaces. It was no fun doing this with the TB still in the engine bay. :censored: If I do this again I might consider completely removing the TB.

-The TB may not come loose after you remove the bolts. I tapped it with a rubber mallet and then tapped it harder - nothing. I then put the handle of a screwdriver on one of the exposed corners of the TB and hit it (the screwdriver) with a hammer.

-The accel and cruise cables were a little tricky to get on/off. Just turn them down enough to get slack in the cables and the slide the end connector through each slot/opening.

icky!

If it comes back soon, lube the throttle linkage.

No sticky pedal first thing this morning.

The mind is a powerful thing - I've convinced myself that the car is more responsive now. I had some fun yesterday driving it harder than it's been driven in a while.

I have no doubt that it is more responsive. That was a lot of crud to slow down the airflow.

cajun, what do you mean by sticky pedal?

Do you mean by when you put your car in gear & step on the gas pedal it feels like very stiff & when you depress on it the car jerks forward (as if you release the clutch too early & your car jerks forward), am I correct?

Thanks

Correct - the gas pedal would stick ONLY the first time I pushed it each morning. Like you say it would jerk b/c you end up pushing hard to break the plate free from the crud. The rest of the day it would be fine.

No pain, no gain, right? It wasn't fun, but def worth it.
