Guangzhou Honda surprised everyone at the Shanghai show with this tidy little roadster, its second Linian concept in as many years. While the 2008 Beijing show concept was a more pedestrian five-door, this two-seat droptop has us wishing for a proper S2000 successor.
Oh, one can quibble over some of the design details (oversized grille element, the showcar-only airplane yoke-style steering wheel, etc.), but fundamentally this is an interesting package.
Sadly, according to our compatriots at Autoblog Simplified Chinese, Honda's domestic partner was mum on specifics, including driveline configuration, powerplant, and so on. That said, the shape does look quite production friendly. Add in a stronger windshield header, some larger mirrors, and do away with that Knight Rider steering wheel, and the rest seems plausible enough.
Rest assured, we are angling for more information on this car as we speak, but for now, enjoy the possibilities
Pretty hot:thmsup:
Bsi523 04-22-2009, 08:20 AM Nice find, The car looks pretty slick but what's up with the headlights? I think the car looks like a cross between a 350z and an s2k sort of.:dunno:
v-6 nolo 04-22-2009, 08:32 AM Small headlights do not bother me, but the "guppy" or open mouth look (kinda like the RX-8) is not my Fav look, however i did not look at all the pics, just that one.
09^CBP^6MT 04-24-2009, 01:11 PM that's the same car rendered on R&T a few months back.

starbai 06-08-2009, 12:57 PM looks good!
original = still better.
Skalipaloo 06-29-2009, 05:42 AM Looks like reality is settling in for this car.
NightHawk4 06-29-2009, 05:58 AM It is time for a radical change.....
The S2000 has been around long enough for it...
Osiris_x11 06-29-2009, 10:41 AM If anything, I hope Honda stays true in having a small-displacement engine, lightweight, fuel-efficient, affordable, and over-built. There is just something special/sensual w/ regards to a lightweight, well-balanced, sharp-handling, solid-feeling sportscar as opposed to too many onboard systems/nannies raising the weight, too much power disrupting the balance, overly-refined suspension/cabin isolating the experience, and so on. . .
Seeing the Accord V6 creep up to 3.5L & the TL V6's to 3.7L is getting silly, along w/ their respective curbside weights & proportions. . .

kinda like the size of Americans!

I resemble that remark...

The latest reports out of Japan could spell bad news for Honda S2000 enthusiasts the world over. According the Best Car, the rear-wheel drive roadster's replacement will likely ditch Honda's high-revving F20C in favor of the second-generation hybrid drivetrain slated to be fitted to the Accord, and further, the gasoline-electric mill will be driving the front wheels.
Although we've been hearing rumors about the S2000's successor for a few years, Honda hasn't provided any indication about if and where the new model is headed. Best Car contends that the new convertible – likely to be fitted with a retractable hard-top – will slot in above the all-new Honda CR-Z due to debut in production form at this year's Tokyo Motor Show. If that's the case, we suspect the next S2000 will be marketed as more of a boulevard cruiser than a back-road bomber, and that could mean that it might be sold as an Acura if it arrives in the States at all. If it does land here badged as a Honda, might we suggest calling it Del Sol instead?
How can they call it a replacement and give it FWD? :thumbsdow
xxDaJackalxx 07-15-2009, 08:21 PM Damn it, they better not replace the S2K with that thing. It would be a great addition to the Honda line-up, but ditch one of their flagship performance vehicles? I'm glad I still have my '06. If they do replace the S2K, my resale value will go up.
Right now that baby is bone stock but I'm thinking of turning it into a track car, what do you guys think? Over the next couple years sink a few grand into it and make it a 'Vette killer.
The car MSRP'd for like $33k. Add another 7k to make it worth the same price as an entry level Vette and it will blow the doors off just about anything else on the street.
sjlee 07-15-2009, 08:58 PM If you want a new S2000, you'd better get them while you can... they stopped production back in June, so whatever is in the dealerships is probably all that's left.
CYANiDE 07-16-2009, 08:19 AM Looks like a shark with an open mouth or something...not feeling it for a Honda.
sjlee 07-16-2009, 10:42 AM Unfortunately, I think the next-gen S2000 as a two-seat high performance RWD convertible has gone to the wayside like the clean-diesel engine for US cars, a RWD platform and a V8 engine.
