View Full Version : Scrape
gohanssjn 07-21-2005, 04:58 AM Ok, so maybe I'm anal-retentive about these kinds of things, but I am so careful when I park. UGH. I wish I knew when it happened, I only noticed today because I was washing in a tilted driveway and saw some black all of a sudden. Sadness. :thumbsdow
Best way to fix besides a trip to the paint shop? :dunno:
anysia 07-21-2005, 05:02 AM touch up paint and a langka blob elimator kit.
AAcord 07-21-2005, 05:22 AM Dont you just hate that...done the same thing...but it was the rear !
andysinnh 07-21-2005, 05:31 AM You should live up here in NH. Start getting snowbanks in December, and they don't leave till March. At some point, they turn to dirt-encrusted-ice, and you get all kind of scrapes like that - potholes, parking lots, turning into a driveway, etc...
Touch-up paint is the solution, and don't wash the car on a tilted driveway.

gotta love dirt/cinder/salt encrusted snow bank. and craters. er, i mean potholes.
and the flying debris that results.
:headbash:
my ex decided my front bumper would look better with some scratches on the bottom from putting the car in 4th instead of reverse and thus rolling into a curb in front of the parking spot once. that bumper has since been replaced though. and he has not touched the car.

I feel your pain!!! Up here in MAINE my car helps the state out by PLOWING!! We get so much damn snow!!!! It sux that in order to keep a car nice and do good mods (ie. drop, nice rims, body kits) you'd need a winter beater :thumbsdow
BenjiBoy650 07-21-2005, 08:08 AM This scrape isn't mine, but it is much worse :)

This scrape IS mine, and it's still much worse than yours

The worst is on the Camry. The front doesn't scrape, but when you load it down, the entire center of the car does. Exhaust, side sills, the whole 9 yards under the doors, SCRAPE all over speed bumps, crests, uneven pavement :)

nice ben.... and to think, i tried to use some touch up paint and blob eliminator on that, but for some reaosn it just DIDN'T work.
CA05LXDriver 07-21-2005, 09:22 AM I did something similar last week to my new baby... touched it up and good as new... I don't want to get the lip spoiler anymore... think of those scratches x1000
VTECaddict 07-21-2005, 01:32 PM first of all, its not in a very visible area. no one will notice it unless you show them, or they specifically are looking under your bumper. its plastic and it wont rust, and it's probably going to get scraped many more times in its life. if it really bothers you, you can get it touched up. you can also buy the front lip to cover it up, but that would effectively lower your front clearance and therefore be even more prone to scraping.
if it were me, i would just live with it.
SSMV6 07-21-2005, 02:00 PM front scratches are inevitable.. Just be glad that it's on the bottom of the bumper instead of the sides.
I had all sorts of scrapes before, but I let it go because it's on the bottom of the car and you can't see it under normal conditions anyway. :D

I wish I knew when I got the 5-6 door dings on my car so I can yell at the other driver! Just touch it up and langka it... Then it should be practically invisible.

That's why the only MT vehicles I drive now are trucks!! :D

Yeah, just going to touch it up and let it live for a bit. If I need a bit more refinement in a week or so, I'll Langka it (site says you can usually wait from 2 hours up to 4 weeks. I'll not tempt fate past a week though...)
ncelk 07-21-2005, 05:20 PM It seems like as the front of cars get lower, this type of thing is inevitable.
My wife hit ours when it was a couple of months old, only a bit worse.
I touched it up and forgot about it. I only notice it when I am underneath the car doing something.
It does kind of irritate you though to have that type of scrape...........
Ion Blue 07-21-2005, 06:44 PM just get a front lip..
F6Hawk 07-21-2005, 07:06 PM Yeah, just going to touch it up and let it live for a bit. Looks like good stuff, I might have to give it a try.
psyshack 07-21-2005, 07:19 PM wife scraped hers up like that in a matter of hours. stick key in and destroy car. <<< her motto.
her 1st husban was a body man. she has wrecked every car she has ever driven over 2k miles. so the future is not good for her accord.
I WANT MY OWN!!!!

Wow, I cannot read. Ok, still fine though. Thanks!
EXLNavi 07-21-2005, 08:53 PM I agree that the low overhang is a problem. It causes problems especially in snow and also steep grades when pulling into a parking lot or driveway. I counter this by slowly approaching and approaching diagonally.
BenjiBoy650 07-21-2005, 09:20 PM I like cars being low though, nice look. I don't mind one bit that it scrapes :) Ody's ground clearance only comes out to 4.3 inches according to Edmunds...that's almost Ferrari territory!
SSMV6 07-22-2005, 07:05 AM I like cars being low though, nice look. I don't mind one bit that it scrapes :) Ody's ground clearance only comes out to 4.3 inches according to Edmunds...that's almost Ferrari territory!
Fully loaded, right? Hehe! :)
Typical Ground clearance is about 6" for sedans, coupes and minivans. 4.3" sounds way too low!
I like how some car look lowered, but it sucks driving it in Boston. The snow isn't a problem. It's the potholes, steep driveways and service garages that gives you the most problems! I still drive my Accord like it's lowered anyway. It's just good practice.
BenjiBoy650 07-22-2005, 08:33 AM If you look on the front end of the new Odyssey's though, they do look REALLY low. Haven't pulled out my ruler yet but I dunno, I'm gonna see the car this Sunday so we shall see how bored I get :lmao:
Actually I kind of like the scraping. My car's front bumper is the perfect height, it lines up with curbs just about right. I can scrape for a split second without doing much damage, just enough to tell me when I'm too far in
Ion Blue 07-22-2005, 09:54 AM i have my plate mounted just below the front bumper (photochopped out) on those little allen bolts (for the bumper weight) my plate is bent into an upside down L-shape
i scrape the plate every time i go down a slightly sloped driveway...it's bent back like a V now...i hope i don't get pulled over
i dropped 2.25"-2.5" and it looks slammed in the front
i do have a scrape on the passenger side but i'll get a front lip next year.
