Has anyone ever put a bike rack on their accord? I found one online that I like but don't know if it will affect moonroof performance. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Here is the rack I like:

I went with a 1.25" trailer hitch and a two bike rack from Thule. The rack is very easy to take on and off and the bike is very stable. I find the rear rack much less obtrusive than a roof rack.

You also don't have to lift the bike up so high.

How hard is it to put a hitch on the accord? Isn't that funny looking too??? :paranoid:

How hard to put a hitch on an accord? Not hard at all.

Step 1: drive to uhaul
step 2: tell them you want a hitch
step 3: wait about 30-45 minutes
step 4: pay
step 5: drive away

See, not very hard at all.

seriously, it looks like you could do it yourself easily if you are at all handy with a drill and marking from a template.

As far as a roof rack is concerned, do not underestimate the difficulty of lifting the bike, not just up, but over the roof as well. My minivan was very easy to load bikes on top because of the 2 sliding side doors, the Accord, pain in the booty.

No matter which way you go, you are only going to get two bikes loaded.

Do you have pictures of your hitch. I too am looking to get a bike rack. I really don't what to put them on top of the car, and will look at a hitch rack.

What year and model is your car?

Thanks.

Personally, I would stay clear of Uhaul. Most of the employees I've dealt with look/act as if they are on parole.

I recommend www.etrailer.com

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/4/web/844000-844999/844150_35_full.jpg This is a picture of a small lightweight Reese hitch on my toyota. Actual hitch is covered. I can pull a very small trailer with it for camping or I can atttach a bike rack and haul around my two mountain bikes. Go to a good bike store and they will have a rack to fit. Nothing touches the car. No straps, ropes nuttin'. You only have to lift your bike about 18in. Practically inpossible to damage yourself or car with this setup. Dosent look objectionable when not in use. This is now my kids car and he has 'tuned' it up. He hasn't gotten any flack from his friends on the hitch.

I think the hitch looks fine, even if it is uncovered. I actually thought about putting a Class III hitch on my parents ML320 because it just looks cool :lmao: Little did I know they wanted $400 + installation...

I had a 1 1/4" receiver intalled at UHaul to accomodate my Thule 2-bike Hitching Post Pro rack.

The rack is really easy to use--mounting on the car, taking off, and mounting the bikes. I chose the hitch rack over the roof rack because (1) it can be quite difficult to get the bikes on an off, and (2) the roof racks are pretty noisy over 65MPH.

The Thule sticks out pretty far from the bumper. Aesthetically it isn't that pretty, but functionally it allows the trunk to open without moving the bikes. I think there are other manufacturers whose racks mount closer to the car.

When I get back into town, I can take a picture and load it on here.

Hey All,

I am looking to get a bike rack for my car as well. A few people mentioned that they would be posting pics. Has anyone had a chance yet to take the pics? I have been looking at getting a roof rack because I thought the hitch would look kind of goofy but if it doesn't affect the look of the car much, then I won't mind doing it that way. Does anyone else have a roof rack on their's? We have a Pilot and I would never put a bike on top of that because it is so high but the Accord doesn't seem like it would be that bad to do. True it would be harder than putting on a hitch mounted rack.

Thanks,
Tim
