Update- Fixed!!!! :) So the part came in for only 11 bucks. I had to completely disassemble the current mirror and remove all the internal guts and put it in the new case. Also had to remove the painted cap over the mirror. The whole thing took about 2 hrs only because i wanted to be really careful and remove everything slowly. Putting it back took about 10 minutes. But my scratch is gone and I have a new cover! :)

hello all,
i was backing up this morning and I wasn't paying attention and scraped the bottom of my passenger side mirror on a low wall. So you can't see the scuffs unless you look underneath (the body color painted portion of the mirror is fine) It is the black plastic housing that is scuffed. So it just bothers me knowing its there even though you can see it unless you look for it. Fortunately I think it should be a cheap replacement for the housing. I went to collegehillshonda and found this part for only 12 bucks.

Is the piece I need #5? And also is the passenger side is the "Right" side correct? I would assume so but just wanted to confirm. Also it looks like I would need to dissassemble the whole mirror and to replace this part. Anyone know if that is difficult? or shold i have the dealer do it? It looks like I would also need to pull off part 7 (the body color matched plastic piece) and attach it to the new housing?

Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Passenger is the "right" side. It mainly refers to the shotgun seat side. But if I were you, I wouldn't bother with it. I was like you when i first hit my passenger side mirror on my gate. I wanted to fix it at first, but I just came to the realization that this is a daily driver, so it's bound to get a little dinged up.

A reference to what happened to mine:

yup same thing happened to mine. the damage is the on the black plastic portion ..except mine is on the bottom and its about a 2 inch scruff.. it just bugs me knowing its there so I am anal like that so i already ordered the part from my local honda dealer and it will get here tomorrow. It was only 12 bucks ...i went ahead and ordered the interior illumination kit also so total was like 102 bucks after tax (got the interior illumuniation kit for 82 bucks! cheaper that college hills honda site.. but now the tough part is taking apart the mirror. I am sure i can do it since i have done plenty of DIY projects just wish there were some instructions on which screws to remove exactly.

i dont think paint will work.. the plastic is scratched pretty deeply that it is all rough.. unless maybe i sand it and spray paint it black.. but oh well the part was only 12 bucks...the hard part is taking the mirror assembly apart.. anyone have advice on that or instructions on how to do it?

Do you think it'd be possible to pop out the painted cover without disassembling the entire mirror? There's a scratch on just the painted part so I ordered a replacement cover ($25) and would like to replace it without removing the entire mirror housing and pulling everything apart. :paranoid:

you were able to order the replacement cover pre-painted to match your car? I know the older accords had them painted already i think i just saw unpainted on ours.. anyways fortunately i didnt have to replace that piece.

To answer your question it would be impossible to remove that cover with out taking the assembly apart or just breaking the cover. Even with it apart there are 3 big plastic clips with a few small ones that are on there tight. You need to pop it off from the inside. I guess since you have a new cover you could just crack the cover and break it apart and remove the broken clips from from the edge of the mirror, but I wouldnt recommend it. You might break the black unpainted housing portion. If i knew there were others with the same problem as me I would have done a DIY, but let me know if you need help removing the mirror. Just take your time and it isnt that hard. THe hardest part is removing the mirror from the motor mount.

My driver side mirror assembly was ruined by some douche. He kicked it and it was completely loose at the rotating point. I'm assuming part number 4 in the diagram is broken. Anyone know the name of that part number or do I have to buy the complete assembly?

Thanks

Hey guys, I just ****ed up my driver's side mirror pretty bad after hitting a pole. From the OP's diagram, part #5 is dangling off the thing where it swivels when you fold it, and the power wire is the only thing preventing it from falling all the way off.

I just bought an entire new aftermarket mirror off ebay. Does anyone know if the OEM parts of the mirror will be interchangable with the parts from the aftermarket one, since I don't want to get it painted, since I didn't mess up the paint on my broken mirror?

Also, does anyone know where I can find instructions for removing the mirror? I found a DIY for the 7th gen, and it says you have to remove the door panels... how about for the 8th gen? I have a LX-P 4dr btw. Thanks for any help in advance!

I also scraped my mirror and ordered a replacement OEM casing online. I took it to my body shop and watched as the mechanic moved the mirror to the side and used 2 long plastic sticks that resembled tongue depressors and unhooked the old one. He then used the same tools to hook the new one in without having to remove the entire mirror assembly but he really struggled. Took about 5 minutes but it was a real PIA. He has made so much money on my entire family with numerous accidents through the years that he did not charge me.

I just need to replace the outside painted cover on my mirror. Does it come off easily or do I have to remove the entire mirror and take it apart?

umm it does not come off easily.. There are like 5 hooks or something like that.. there is one big hook in the bottom that you really have to pop off from the inside.. But you could try prying it off. .Most likely you will break the hooks but if you have a new painted cover you can just snap that one on.. GOod luck
