View Full Version : Vibrations while braking, Help!
amajike 05-03-2009, 08:25 AM Hi guys,
When I'm doing about 80mph and brake, i feel some vibrations, its not like the car vibrates, rather I seem to feel the vibrations on the foot applying the brakes. What do you think is wrong?
fLiPsId3 05-03-2009, 08:37 AM i feel the same thing when i push my brakes. i might go back to the dealer and have them check...probably have to change the brake pads. ?
CA05LXDriver 05-03-2009, 09:01 AM It's your rotors. They're likely glazed unevenly or have too much runout.. very very very common with these rotors.
I've changed my rotors already on my '05 but went with factory pads... and then it recurred. Next time I'm going for a diff pad too.
By the way it's actually cheaper to replace the rotors than to have them turned.

Thanks mate. I'm a bit laidback when it comes to car parts, could you help me with what a rotor is?
richpor 05-03-2009, 11:22 AM Rotors are the big round shinny metal things behind the front (and read) wheels. The pads clamp down on them and create friction (and heat) to stop your car.
Assuming you have four wheel discs, if the vibration is on your foot, chances are that the front rotors are warped. Get some Brembo or ATE premium blanks and good pads. If the vibration is through your seat, chances are the rear rotors are done for... same remedy.

Like if you do it yourself?

I was told $120 to get mine turned, what does it cost to replace? Thanks.
I will not be doing them myself.
brobo 05-03-2009, 12:53 PM You should get new pads for new rotors.
parts:
brembo blank: $110
hawk hps pad: $50
I don't know how much a shop would charge you.
mktng 05-03-2009, 02:38 PM dont worry about brembo blanks
get oem blanks 29$cdn a piece
with hawk hps pads.
should do the trick

Brembo's are cheaper at tire rack

I have to agree with this... I had my rotors turned and front pads replaced(with stock pads) and I still get slight vibration sometimes.. next time I'm going with the Brembo blanks I bought and aftermarket pads for sure. :D
CA05LXDriver 05-04-2009, 10:22 AM I just ordered new rotors and pads from www.rockauto.com
I got the fancy rotors for $50 each :). You can get generic ones for ~25 each!
amajike 06-02-2009, 11:30 AM I took a trip to the service station where it was found that my brake pads were almost gone, I got them replaced and BOOM! The vibrations are gone, Infact then, my steering use to vibrate when I brake from speeds exeeding 80+mph. But now its all stopped. It turned out not to be my rotors, I'm glad.

Is this kit plug&play ??

Morepower4me 06-03-2009, 02:25 PM The stock pads make the rotors warp VERY easily. If you change to non-OEM pads quickly enough on new/returned rotors you should be OK, but otherwise you'll need new rotors.
I've been using AutoZone's 'Gold' rotor for a while on my Accord and other cars. It was reccommended to me by auto-x'er friends because they are VERY hard to warp, and if they do they replace them for free.
I've had no issues and would buy them again. Only about $40 each too!
jjwink 06-09-2009, 11:02 AM You can get Brembo blanks from Amazon.com for cheaper than tirerack (FREE SHIPPING). I got a front set for my Accord I4 Sedan there. You have to figure out your Brembo part number first and search for it at Amazon.
Mine was part 25549 for the 2005 Honda Accord EX I4 Manual. I do not know all the cross reference info so I will not speculate on what else they fit.

yes they are plug and play.
You need impact screwdriver or drill to remove the stock bolt on the old rotor.
I drilled mine.

Thanks man, got the Hawks off Tire Rack and at the time the Brembro's were discontinued to be manufactured in another country. Was gonna go AutoZone cheap shit but for about $10 more each I order the Brembro's.
AutoZone cheapest rotors: $40.27 (includes 6% FL sales tax)
Amazon Brembo rotors: $52.35 (no tax for FL)
jjwink 06-10-2009, 03:16 PM You verified that's the same ones your car takes, right? I think maybe all 7th gen I4's are the same, but the V6's are bigger.
One other note, more so than other brands, the surface on the brembo's comes pretty rough. I just threw them on and went at it, but you may want to have them turned. Presonal preference really.

Yep, I have a I4 also and verified against Tire Racks website. Suppose to arrive tomorrow and will put them on this weekend.

My mechanic do it too
thanks;)
richpor 06-15-2009, 05:14 AM I need to chime in on this one.... I had problems just like this and my rear brakes "looked" new from the outside. When i took them apart, i found that the rear pads were not installed correctly and the inside of the rotor was all rusted to $h1t...Long story short, I went with the ATE premium one rotors (made by Continental, the tire company) they have grooves in them that indicate when it's time to change the rotors as the rotors wear, the grooves disappear and "satisfied" Ceramic pads.
I changed all four corners for good measure. The difference is night and day, no more vibrations, at any speed and amazing brake performance. Total cost of the job (DIY) including all parts, $ 375.00 CAD. Well worth the price. The rotors were even balanced, just like the Brembo's.
You don't get that with the low end off-shore crap!!!
I expect these to last about 50,000Km, per the documentation, but we'll see what really happens!!

It took me 30 minutes to get all 4 screws out with a screw extractor set. Tried a impact screw bit and impact gun but it only broke the bit, even used PB Blaster before hand. Brembo rotors come with new screws.
Screw extractor set I used that has collars: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952156000P
MADGSF 06-16-2009, 08:45 AM Had the same pulsing issue on my 2006 I-4 plus the rear pads were worn out at 42K miles. Replaced the pads all around with Wagner ceramic and had the rotors turned at ORileys (sp) for 10.00 per rotor. now braking is progressive and has much better feel. Should of changed the original pads when I brought it home from the dealer. By the way second the impact screw driver, that was the only way I got the front rotor screws off. Luckily I already had the tool to compress the rear rotor piston.

half an hour? I drilled out the screws in one minute (and didn't bother replacing them...)
Do you think i needed to put new ones in?

I drilled low and slow because the extractor set wasn't mine and it cost $50. Also the bits don't seem to cut very fast and I was trying to preserve the threads on the hub. Honda loves cutting cost so if they felt they didn't need the screws they wouldn't have designed it that way. The Brembo's came with replacement screws. On both my 96 Civics I didn't replace the screws and had no problems. The Accord being the nicest and newest car I have ever own gets extra special treatment.

I think the screws just make it easier for the guy on the assembly line to put the wheel on? no?
