mjcn121789 05-04-2009, 07:30 AM LED brake lights??? I'm not really digging the chrome strips on the brake lights, but if you have to have them I think they look the best on the black coupe
starbai 05-04-2009, 08:00 AM Yeap, This weekend I installed 6500 Xenon Depot Head and Fog lights. the LED Tails, and 15% Tint.
I plan on having them tint the chrome strips with the darkest tint available for that 'black chrome" look when I go back to have the clear bra put on this week.
fjowner 05-04-2009, 08:03 AM Nice. Black cars are nice when they are clean. Do you plan on debadging?
morcheez 05-04-2009, 08:05 AM someone else had said the chrome strips could be taken off but never provided any pics of that...can u confirm??

They are NOT removeable. They are kind of inset into the lens. I think they're probably just attached with glue, but if you found a way to pry them off without damaing/cracking the lens, there would be a 'groove' or an inset in them that I dont think would look very attractive. Not to mention I'm not sure if its just red see through lens behind it or something else.
If I really hated the chrome or black chrome effect htat I wanted perhaps I'd be brave enough to figure out a way to pull the strips off and then see what I'm left with underneath them. But the adhesive/way its attached is so strong, I really feel like if I got them apart they'd crack the lens.
My honest opinion is that if you dont like the chrome, or painting it body color, dont get these.

thanks for the feedback..guess ill be waiting some more
checkZvtec 05-04-2009, 12:04 PM starbai, I would like to see more pics of the rear. I feel it doesn't look bad with the chrome strips since you have Not debadged yet. b/c the chrome badges unify the chrome tail light strips. But, you car is too shiny and your phone is not clear enough to get a good idea or picture of how it looks. If you could somehow gunmetal-ize or charcoal the handles, window trim, badging, and tail light strips, that would be unique and attractive i think too. Don;t know how you'd do it tho.....
GTFan712 05-04-2009, 12:11 PM So the LED Tails are an entirely new taillight assembly correct? If so, may I ask where you purchased them and how much they cost you.

Gosha 05-04-2009, 01:06 PM hey Star can you take off the chrome strips, i want to see what it will look like without em
zexen 05-04-2009, 01:53 PM Gosha, he mentions in a thread above that he cannot take off the chrome strips. They are built into the taillight assembly. If he takes them off, he will have to reglue them back on, or could potentially damage the taillight itself.
Clutch34 05-04-2009, 02:00 PM i was wondering what these would look like on a black coupe... i like it! time to start saving up... lol
think if you tint all the red and leave the reverse lights and the chrome un-tinted it'd look good? :dunno:
Here's a quick photoshop of what it could look like...

sorry boss... they really do look cool at night though!

That look that you'r refering to, the gunmetal look, is what I'm hoping to acomplish with the tint.... we'll see how it works in a few days
More pictures are coming too.. I'm leaving the office now so I should have them up in a few hours.

I got them on Ebay, just do a search for LED 08 Tail Lights Accord... total cost was just over $300. I paid for 2 day shipping beacuse I wanted to put them in this weekend. I've only had my car a week!!
Yes they are a completely new tail light assembly. I'm probably gonna put the original ones back on ebay or something just to recoup some of the money.
hey Star can you take off the chrome strips, i want to see what it will look like without em
Sorry boss, they dont come off. Perhaps with enough tugging and pulling but I'm afraid that may crack the lens, and I dont hate them enough to attempt that.

I can picture what you're saying but personally its not my cup of tea.
To be honest I was pulling into the driveway with my S2000 the other day, and to me the Coupe looks like an aston martin from the rear doors back from a side/rear view with these lights and the way the chrome looks:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1b/Aston_Martin_V8_Vantage_side_20081129.jpg/800px-Aston_Martin_V8_Vantage_side_20081129.jpg
Not suggesting it looks THAT good just saying what it kinda 'reminds me of'
08Accord6MT 05-04-2009, 02:14 PM hah thats funny, some guy the other day asked me if my coupe was an aston martin lol. ive also been asked if it was a 6 series...made me feel good, then i got in and it was still a honda =( lol
Clutch34 05-04-2009, 02:25 PM it reminds me of a mercedes!

Just goes to show you there are millions of people out there that don't know cars.
Even if a person doesn't know cars it is hard to believe someone that would even know what an Aston Martin is could mistake it for a mass produced coupe produced by one of the world's largest manufacturers.

OOorrrr our coupes are just that good looking out on the road
I'm actually kinda digging the LED taillights...now wondering what it would look like with a TW coupe that isn't debaged...
Gosha 05-04-2009, 04:59 PM Man that sucks about the chrome pieces not being able to come off. I asked because another member who has them claimed you could without any marks and etc.
I would like some LED tails bu the pieces in the middle of them is what i am not diggin

+1, I'm interested in seeing how they look after you tint/paint them, but I still think I would prefer lights that look bone stock with the only difference being the addition of LEDs.

i have a photoshop up of the lights tinted if you haven't seen it yet on the first page.. not the best work, but i guess it could give people an idea..

Same... I don't plan to debadge, but would love some LEDs back there.
starbai 05-04-2009, 07:45 PM Okay guys. So this weekend I had a bunch of projects to do.
My first was tint. I took it to a local shop who put non metalized tint on. It is supposedly better for navi cars. I went with 15% beacuse I wanted something fairly dark. They don't really mess with you here in FL for dark tint.
Once I got it back home, my next goal was to install my Xenon Depot 6500 HID's--- The way those work, each pull power directly from the battery vs pulling power from the stock harnesses. As a result, I ended up putting together my own little power source. Rockford Fosgate 4gauge wire ran from the battery to an inline 100amp fuse to a rockford distribution block. (First Pic Below) to which all 4 lights drew their power from.
Its nice because this way I only have one wire going to the battery, and the block has two more 8 gauge ports that will be great for when I install a 4 channel amp and mono amp at a later time. This was mounted under the driver side headlight on the frame of the car.
The next project were the LED tail lights. Very simple install that DID require the bumper removed. I do plan on getting the chrome tinted as I discussed above, and I'll have better pics of it at that time.
These are the pics I took for now. If anyone wants to see any specific angles or lighting conditions let me know.
I still have a few things to do that I didn't have time to finish, like modifying and installing my honda Odyssey Grill and hardwiring my Escort 8500 x50 radar.
Below the pics of the accord I talk about my latest install to the S2000 too...

And just beacuse the prelude is staying at a friends house since I dont have room for it in my drive way with the accord's arrival until the corvette is done and gone, I figured I'd post a pic just for kicks.
