I know this is an Accord forum, but can someone explain the proper technique for changing the engine coolant on a 2006 Honda Pilot? I added the wrong type of coolant and want to flush the system. How may gallons of Honda coolant are required for this task?
Thanks

Tried searching those sites but could not come up with a description of the process.

Then ask.
I would think a Pilot site would be better equipped to give you advise on the proper way to do a flush and fill on a Pilot than an Accord site.
but that's just me. :dunno:

I just visited the hondaowners forum. I saw some misleading info right off the bat. I'd join just to straighten them out... but I'd rather keep my attention here!!:lmao:

The Pilot's coolant change is nearly identical to an Accord V6's coolant change.
Engine cold. Turn heat(s) to max while running momentarily. Shut off
Drain radiator, open rear block drain, if accessible remove forward block drain bolt.
Refill as normal, system will bleed at radiator neck. You can also remove one of the small coolant lines to the breather hose on the forward cylinder head. Once coolant appears there, put hose back on.
Once full, start up with cap off, if level stays, cap off and let it run. Make sure fan speed on hvac is on LOW, make sure heat is coming out of both cores. If not, shut down. Ensure it's full. Sometimes the ones with rear heaters are a little bit of a pain to get all air out. Odysseys will do that especially when you pull the rear heater hoses under the floor to drain them.
It should take about 1.5 to 2 gallons of Honda Type2.
Don't flush it out, just dump and refill. Ensuring the correct mix once water has been put in will be difficult, as you can't get all the straight water out.

I found some instructions by accident when looking at block heater information. What is weird, is one SOME cars, but NOT the Accord they say to go back with a specific amount off pure antifreeze that they calculate will make your mixture 60% when job finished. There is NOTHING in the instructions that say if the higher mixture is for a reason related to the heater or if it is just something they want you to do while you are at it. The instructions even reference replacement of the sticker at the fill cap telling anyone who does future work "Hey, 60%, jackhole".

The Honda type 2 is premixed, not full strength. From Honda you can no longer get full strength coolant, or so I'm told.
50/50 is preferred. 60% is only for areas that see major sub-freezing weather.

Some of the online retailers have it, but it's only sold by the quart, because to get to 60% it only takes a little. These were 2007 instructions with the block heater for one of the other Hondas (not Accord).
Just not sure why they specifically wanted poeple to do that, and only for that 1 model.

Yes you are correct. If you buy the Honda coolant (which is HIGHLY recommended for any Honda - do NOT use Prestone or any other stuff from the parts store), it now comes premixed and properly formulated for Honda cooling systems.
