Re: Honda Introduces Powertrain Warranty for 2006 Model-Year Vehicles
Dear Honda Dealer Principal, Parts Manager, and Service Manager,
We at American Honda remain confident in our ability to consistently deliver high-quality, reliable vehicles to our clients in a competitive market.
To demonstrate this confidence, American Honda is adding a five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty to all 2006 model-year Honda vehicles. This warranty is in addition to our normal three-year or 36,000-mile warranty.
This powertrain limited warranty is unprecedented for American Honda, demonstrating our commitment to your customers and our willingness to stand behind our vehicles. This warranty covers any defects in material or workmanship on powertrain components including the engine, transmission, and front- and rear-wheel-drive systems, under normal use. The powertrain limited warranty information has been added to the 2006 Honda warranties booklets for all models.
This new powertrain limited warranty retroactively extends to customers who have already purchased 2006 Ridgelines. In August 2005, AHM will send an information letter and an updated warranty booklet to customers who received the non-updated warranty booklet when they purchased their Ridgelines. At that time, AHM will also mail letters and updated booklets to you to replace booklets in unsold vehicles in your inventory. The updated booklet will be applied to the production line at the same time.

It's a shame that Hyundai can offer 10/100 and Honda took this long to even give us 5/60k. :thumbsdow
Acura gets 6 year / 70k!

Re: Acura Introduces Powertrain Warranty for 2006 Model-Year Vehicles
Dear Acura Dealer Principal, Parts Manager, and Service Manager,
We at American Honda remain confident in our ability to consistently deliver high-quality, reliable vehicles to our clients in a competitive market.
To demonstrate this confidence, American Honda is adding a six-year or 70,000-mile powertrain limited warranty to all 2006 model-year Acura vehicles. This warranty is in addition to our standard four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty.
This powertrain limited warranty is unprecedented for American Honda, demonstrating our commitment to your clients and our willingness to stand behind our vehicles. True...but give me a Honda w/ 5/60 over a Hyundai w/ 10/100 anyday!
Better late than never, I say!

What they meant to say was:
1. Because Camry's have a 5/60k powertrain warranty, we are getting our butts kicked by comparison shoppers; and
2. Because 50% of 6th gen transmissions are failing, and because we had to recall hundreds of thousands of Odysseys, Accords and Pilots to inspect the trans and install oil jet kits, we have to do something to restore a fraction of the consumer confidence that has vaporized over the last 5 years. :paranoid:
On the plus side, this is really just window dressing to market the position they already take on failed transmissions in the first 60k miles. They are great about replacing the trans for free or at least absorbing the cost of the replacement trans, even if the mileage is past warranty cutoff.
HarlemV6Honda 07-26-2005, 12:42 PM Too bad they decided to make these changes for MY '06, especially given the tranny failures occurring left and right. It almost seems as if Honda is doing this to save face and do damage control for the problems with Accords from previous model years. It makes me appreciate my extended warranty all the more! :naughty:
CA05LXDriver 07-26-2005, 02:37 PM True...but give me a Honda w/ 5/60 over a Hyundai w/ 10/100 anyday!
I'd take a 3/36 over Hyundai's 10/100 any day.... heck, I'd take a 2/24 over hyundai even. What good is a warranty when you know you are going to need it often...
n1accord 07-26-2005, 03:19 PM This longer warranty likely also takes into consideration a statistical analysis of the powertrain reliability. If most of the expensive powertrain warranty claims occur after 6ys/60k miles, then Honda has little to lose.
FWIW, they did extend the 3/36k warranty to 100k miles for the tranny on my 01'Ody, for which a 6/60k warranty would have left me hanging.
Generally, I don't go in much for warranties. Nothing lasts forever. Buy reputable goods from reputable people is a good philosophy as pointed out in the previous posts.
Also, understand that Honda makes a profit in spite of warranty claims because cost-of-claims is rolled into the price of the product. Extended warranties are another profit center and the psychology of marketing this product is intriguing to say the least.

Ditto! This should have happened in the '03 model year, at least on the Accord.
psyshack 07-26-2005, 06:01 PM Would have been nice to see them extend the bumper to bumper out abit. major power train is moreless window dressing,,, trannys aside :dunno:
04blkpearlcoupe 07-27-2005, 01:33 AM They should grant a free warranty extension to all 03-05's...but Im sure they wont :thumbsdow

Interesting. The powertrain warranty on my '04 Canadian Accord was alredy 5 years/100,000 km (~62000 miles), and according to the Honda canada website, this has apparently been the case since the 1999 model year:
