Dealer invoice is 19,000

Edmunds TMV is $18,900

Honda is providing dealer incentives of $750

Your WORST price target has to be:

TMV 18,900
Less; incentive (750)

Target 18,250 + TTL = roughly 19,500 OTD

I would go for $18 even / $19,200 OTD as my action point... :deal:

Seems like dealer #2 from your post would do that deal for you if you guaranteed to drive it off the lot same day....

But DO NOT negotiate in person!!!!! :smilemad:

Why not shop an offer of $19,200 to various dealer's internet sales via their websites?
No downside, since you're in control and can always back off or accept. If you want to be aggressive with this price tell 'em "whoever commits first and brings the car to me can have my check!"

stiller~if you have not heard from david from moon, give him a call. same goes for country motors. baeirl was pretty good at matching the prices too, but only once i started saying, hey this dealer will give me this price, can ya beat it?? that'sthe BEST way to play this. keep pitting them against each other. sey hey, x dealers will sell it for $x, can ya beat that? and STAY OFF OF THE LOTS! :blah:

i know moon quoted me 20,025 otd on the 2005 ex coupe (sticker is near 23k) and that was back in january. incentives are higher right now, and i could probably get the ex for less than that even. you do NOT want to end up with an lx that cost as much as someone else's ex!!!!!!

In CA, I got mine for 19,065 OTD, with included 8.5% sales tax. That was $17,299 including destination, 200 dmv, 45 doc fee (this is capped in CA), 9 tire fee.

Not sure how it exactly translates, but I'd think they can do a little better... are you dealing directly with their fleet departments? If not, you may want to get dealer quotes through edmunds.com or similar

I found that quotes were lower when obtained directly from dealer websites than thru an internet 3rd party. I also got an immediate acceptance of my internet OFFER which was much lower than any QUOTES that were sent to me.
An OFFER is controlled by YOU.
A QUOTE is controlled by THEM.

I would think that you would prefer to get a price on the car itself instead of an out the door price. It makes it easier to compare to what other people paid. The taxes and fees and everything will be different from state to state, and if you haven't purchased a new car lately you will never know how much it is. And I don't understand why your prices are so high. All the prices around the Bay are in the mid-high 17K range, have been for 5 years+

the best way is to try to educate yourself. i can't emphasize enough to make up one of those spreadsheets on www.carbuyingtips.com . it will help walk you through every cost associated with the car, the taxes even. it will breakdown what payment per month you could expect at a given interest rate spreadover whatever term. you can factor trade-ins, downpayments, etc onto that sheet. you can input the mfr to dealer incentives that you have found out about. there are some other fees that they helpyou guesstimate that you will want subtracted form the costof your car.

seriously LOOK INTO IT! no reason not to, but every reason to fill it out!!!

Quotes were from autobytel and one other that I don't recall.

The question is WHY just now are they getting better and how much better is it realistic to expect. Is this an end-of-month thing? If you wait until next week, do the quotes expire? If so, can you wait until end of next month?

and where would be a good place to get all the figures?

stiller, use edmunds and the like for the invoice price (check a few sites, make sure they're all the same, if not take the lowest.) most of the other fiugures i you READ the car buying tips site, they tell you how to figure them out. i'd do a spreadsheet for you but my pc won't do it because my excel expried and i never bothered paying to have all the msoffice crap installed in their full form.

nyway, they have everything spelled out for you and how to find the amounts you should be subtracting off.

the ONLY one you can't find by just reading their website is the mfr to dealer incentives that are hidden to the average customer. edmund's forums sometimes have the info leaked on them... or who was it that mentioned about $1200 in mfr to dealer incentives? plug that number into the spreadsheet for the incentives line.

heck, i evenhad one dealership tell me about another $400 i didn't account for in my spreadhsheet. guess what? that dealership couldn't find the car i wanted and i guess just wanted to make sure i was milking my plan for every penny when it came to other dealerships!

I have not read all post but if he got a car great! I got mine off auto trader, got great deal two yrs ago 03 accord sdn, and don't consider it ugly at all. One secret, print out ad and take it with you and show them the ad. Sales guy said he would have charged me 1,800 more if did not have ad. Guy was old school creepy salesman.

They wanted to charge me $1000 just for getting loan thru honda dealership. I am glad I went with my credit union and read all paperwork before selecting where to get loan. Both had same percent rate below 5%. Also it helped that I was pre-approved so had credit union check with me.

But DO NOT negotiate in person!!!!! :smilemad:

Why not? I would think it would tell them you are ready to buy today & not just merely shopping. You can't buy the car over the internet. Papers must be signed to be complete. Until the papers are signed no deal is complete. The saleman knows that.

Why not?

The reason is because as soon as you enter their "turf", you are dead. They will suck the life out of you for hours, playing every game in the book and employing every little trick until they wear you down. And they will wear you down, They will give just enough to keep you there, but not enough to give you their best deal.

Why not? Because they will waste your time. Plain and simple.

Do it by e-mail, fax or phone, but never set foot in the dealership until it is time to pick up your car.

you cankeep the upper hand and get numbers for things before ever stepping foot into *theri* territory. then when you do actually go to a dealership, phone/internet deals in hand, if they try to start adjusting that number in ANY form and you are a well educated consumer, you can quickly catch this and walk away from the deal.

the whole, ill buy it toxday bit only works on depserate dealerships, like uh, shall we say, gm???

but the spreadhseet (if you use it) will also enable you to more easily catch any number games they may try to play. they changed the price on my accord when they changed the trade in value for my civic. they swore the end result was the same. i went home, plugged it into my spreadsheet to double check, and it actually WAS the same. they wanted ti worked out thenew way for accounting records (i understand the thnking there thanks to my acctg background.... not that i WANT to understand it. it's basically padding th ebooks to make things ultimately look more favorabl, while the actual transaction didnt' change.)

It seems you don't have a clear intention to buy this car anytime soon. maybe the dealers are picking up on that...and that's why you aren't getting their "best" offer. :dunno:

not necessarily...... i would rather not put much more money into my current ride..... it's too old for my liking, and not sure how much longer i have before major problems start appearing....

i am looking for the best deal before i walk into a dealership again, that's all.... i could be more aggressive though... what do you think?

I used the target price from carsdirect.com and subtracted about $500 off of that for my target price at which I would purchase. I also used all the dealers in about a 200 mile area to make sure I would get the best target price, it will change with different areas. Once I had my target price I emailed all of the dealers within the 200 mile area and let them know I would be purchasing the car within the weekend, this does make a huge difference! I really feel this gets the water churning, especially if it is the last couple days of the month. I ended up having a dealer in my area call before I could even get all other dealerships an email sent out saying he would meet my target price. I ended up paying $25,300 OTD for my EX auto with Nav ( my target was 23,600, I ended up paying for the $300 window vin etching, $100 dealer locate fee, and thier cost, $120, of the mud gaurds, they wouldn't budge anymore than this). If they know you are serious and are going to buy a car in a couple of days, they will deal, especially with no trade in.

Good luck with the purchase, I love my car. Everything and more than I expected.

If they know you are serious and are going to buy a car in a couple of days, they will deal, especially with no trade in.

This is the key!

When you are ready to write the check, then you send out the round of e-mails, something like this:

"Dear Dealer: I will be purchasing a new Accord LX (color preference: xxx or xxx) on Saturday August 13. I am e-mailing all dealers within xxx miles for their best price, and I will purchase the car from the dealer with the lowest out the door price. If you are interested in selling this car, please respond no later than Friday, August 12 with your best offer."

In the meantime, you should be applying for financing at your bank or through Capital One Auto online, so you aren't falling victim to the dealers' other game, "Fun With Fluctuating Interest Rates", otherwise known as "Recapturing Lost Profits Through Exaggerated Rates". :naughty:

I was thinking about the Hybrid + Navi at the end of July. Most dealers quoted me between $33.5K to $35K (out the door), but surprisely, one dealer was welling to sell it to me for $30K.

To reach down to $30K, It started with$1500 off sticker + TTF, then @ Invoice + TTF (which will be around $31.4K) Basically, I could get it around $1400 off the inovice price.

But anyhow, I stepped out the offer due to....
1. No moonroof
2. If battery failed, the replacement is $2500 + labor at this time.
3. Doesn't save me money at all. :paranoid:
