View Full Version : How do I remove emblems/logos?
luvmyaccord 07-31-2005, 02:11 PM Hey,
Do any of you know how to remove the "H" and "Accord" off the car?
Any tips/advice on how to prevent scratching, what tools to use, etc. would be appreciated too. :)
Are they drilled into the car itself....in other words, will I have holes once it is removed??
I am proud to drive a Honda...I just dont want the logos, thats all
Thanks
VTECaddict 07-31-2005, 02:17 PM the "H" is attached with screws, so you will have holes if you remove that. the "Accord", DX, LX, EX, and V6 emblems are just glued on.
i believe you take a piece of dental floss or fishing line, put it behind the emblem, and effectively saw the emblem off. then you take adhesive remover or something to get the glue off. after that, i would wash that area and wax it.
CA05LXDriver 07-31-2005, 08:12 PM How old is the car? I removed my LX emblem a few days after getting the car... just slowly pried it up from the corner with my finger.... voila....
I'd assume the accord one would be the same way... if you've had the car a while, you may need to use dental floss or a plastic putty knife. Basically, you use the dental floss as a band-saw, sawing away at the tape. You may need to follow up with some wax to remove the adhesive or whatever is left over...

luvmyaccord 08-01-2005, 07:57 AM Thanks for the input VTECaddict and CA05LXDriver
VTECaddict, you mentioned the "H" is attached with screws. How would I go about unscrewing the screws? From the other side of the hood/trunk door?
Good thing I asked because I was thinking of using a flat screwdriver to just pry it off :lmao:
One last thing, what adhesive should I use to put the "Accord" back on (for whatever reason)? heh
Is it perfectly legal to unbrand your car (remove all logos)? I am pretty sure it is but you never know :dunno:
Thanks!

Yes, but it should be illegal if people will mistake it for a Hyundai Sonata :D
VTECaddict 08-01-2005, 11:42 AM dont use a screwdriver! you'll scratch your paint...unless...you WANT to scratch your paint :dunno:
looks like the rear H just had clips and not screws. nonetheless, you would still have two holes in the trunk.
instructions (for gold emblem kit, just read the parts about removing the emblems): http://handa-accessories.com/accord/03-4drgold.pdf
Steven 08-17-2005, 05:00 PM My friend just recently removed his Maxima and SE emblems off of his car. His model year is 2000 and the emblems came right off with little adhesive left on the car. He took a blow dryer and heated the emblems. I guess it makes the adhesive more gooey and then sawed them off with dental floss. As for the H logo, good luck; ur best bet would be to go with a shop unless youre willing to do the touch up job yourself.
psyshack 08-18-2005, 04:07 AM First thing done when wifes new accord got to the house was take the garbage off the back. Dealer sticker, accord and ex gone in less than 5 mins.

SSMV6 08-18-2005, 06:07 AM Oooo.. Nice! i think it's time to take out the garbage! ;)
scatman 08-21-2005, 07:36 AM "H" doesnt come off, but ive used a hair dryer/fishing line in the past to remove all other emblems that are attached by glue
Silvr'03 10-04-2005, 10:41 AM Has anyone removed the trim in the middle of the doors? I was wondering if it was glued or maybe had some type of rivets. Also I wasn't sure if it was painted under the trim.

You could take the whole "grill" off for the front "H". There are two grommet holes behind the rear "H" that needs to be filled in if you're planning on shaving that one.
Silvr'03, There is paint behind the side mouldings on the sedan, but the moulding is attached by clips and mounting tape. If you remove the side mouldings, you're going to have to fill in the holes. There's about 4-5 holes for each door. If you have a coupe, then the mouldings are dealer installed options and there are no holes behind them. Just tape. You could use a gentle lifting force to remove them.
anysia 10-04-2005, 12:21 PM OK, ANYONE REMOVING THEIR EMBLEMS, SEND THEM TO ME!!!
i think it's the silliest thing in the world to remove them, but hey, your loss, my gain. (not to sound cliche or anything!!! :lmao: ) i could really use some more honda paraphanilia for the living room decorations!! :blah: and there is no way in h*** i'm removing my own emblems. i like the car, i'm proud to have a honda and i'm proud that it;s an accord. but to each his own i guess......

anysia 10-04-2005, 12:24 PM i think all who remove emblems should be forced into a dodge neon FOR ENTERNITY.
gives you a GREAT reason to remove things. beat the crap out of the car. have a blast.
EXLNavi 10-04-2005, 12:35 PM I removed the vinyl dealer decal with glue and WD-40. Didn't damage the paint at all.
EDIT: I should clarify - the decal was stuck with glue. It was removed with WD-40.

... unless it's a dealer sticker.. Looks out of place no matter how nice or how hard to remove they make them! :D

note-dealership decals are fine to be removed.... best bet there is to tell them you will NOT buy the car with a decal on it though.... dealership decals are the equivalent of the nut who ADDS decals to their cars. i.e. v6 emblems on non-v6 cars. ex symbols on dx cars, etc.
or that idiot who put bmw emblems on his accord.
EXLNavi 10-04-2005, 01:09 PM I had no idea they'd put a dealer decal on it. I didn't see any on the lot with dealer decals. All I saw were license plate frames but I figured they would be easy to remove.
Hey, I have a good tip to remove emblems (only the self adhesive type), I have seen this procedure on the TV show "Overhaulin".
Simply take a piece of fishing line between your hands and begin passing it behind the emblem from one side to the other, the fishing line on its way will separate the adhesive from the car surface, with no damage at all, since fishing line is plastic and round, you can remove all your emblems in seconds, safely.
Hope it helps
Julian
ericrwalker 04-25-2006, 08:11 AM I agree. Also everytime I see a car going down the road with no emblems on the back I think it looks terrible. It's just too plain, something needs to be there.

TYPE-R might work  Why clutter something up when it can be nice and clean...
ericrwalker 04-25-2006, 09:18 AM It's not cluttered up, it's bare and boring with nothing on there. Like a desert.

trainchaser 04-25-2006, 08:15 PM ...yeah, I like my emblems, on the car...problem we have around here is kids who steal them off of your car, particularly if you have a German car, Bimmers are a fave target along with Vdubs and MB's...but sometimes they go after Hondas and Acuras as well, the H on our Odyssey went missing last year at some point, didn't notice it til I went to wash it...
...we also have a lot of strange Acura owners up this way who remove the A's from their Acuras and replace them with Honda H's, go figure...
cheers,

ericrwalker 04-26-2006, 04:42 AM There is a guy on here who is making his TSX a Japanese Accord. Anysia is probably the one going up there and stealing everyones "H" she said she needs to decorate her house. :lmao:

Ferrari has no badge except for the prancing horse. It would be like shaving everything on my Accord except the middle Honda symbol, which has holes in it anyway.
ericrwalker 04-26-2006, 12:25 PM A Ferrari has a lot of style, an Accord is a more plain car, needs a little badging to spice it up. :paranoid:

darkriver4362 04-26-2006, 02:08 PM De-Badging gives a nice clean look....less for wax to get stuck in too....haha I actually have an extra badge, Accord in the grille lol.
bronconite 07-16-2006, 08:56 AM I just took then dealer decal and ACCORD emblem off the deck lid. It definitly looks much better. I used a combination of a razor blade, WD-40, paper towels and my fingers.
There seems to be some criticism of those who like to clean up their cars by removing emblems. This is quickest and easiest way of mildly customizing a car there is, and has been being done ever since guys have been personalizing their rides. Some extent of dechroming is almost always done on customs from the '40s all the way to present. It's not about not being proud of what you're driving.
si_speed 07-16-2006, 12:20 PM Yall suck. I took all the emblems off my Lude and there's holes inder all of them. The ones the front left such big holes I put it back in. I need to repaint my trunk so I'll just bondo in those holes when I go to do that.

I wouldn't bondo them shut. Having them welded is the only way to go. It will cost next to nothing. It'll take less than 5 minutes to mig them shut. Bondo just wont last in an application like that. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing the matter with body filler, as long as it's used properly.
