Given the option of keeping ahold of a 2005 Accord EX Sedan and waiting until the 9th generation accord which might have some issues fixed, may have more power and fuel economy due to direct injection, etc. OR Trading it now for a 2009 LX-P Sedan for $1000 under invoice + destination. Which would you do?

Even the Edmunds review sited brake judder/vibration issues, this makes me very nervous.

I would wait if I were you, unless you are completely tired of your '05, or are having problems with it. You know if you get the 09, you will want the 9th gen anyway when it comes out! Good luck!

i see it this way, i suggest you wait, then if you dont like the 9th gen, you could probably get a used 8th gen ex-l v6 for alot less than a 9th gen..so i say wait if its not necessary at the moment

A sales guy at the local honda dealer told me the 9th generation would come ou around 2012-2013.

I'd keep the 2005 Accord, unless it has serious problems. The 7G Accords are faster and slightly more fuel efficient than the 8G (at least where the I4 engine models are concerned). The 8G has advantages in space, cornering, and safety, but these are incremental improvements, and nothing radical.

That actually sounds about right, historically the Accords generally have a 4 year run 6th gen 98-02, 7th gen 03-07, so the 8th gen will most like be 08-2012

id stick on your 2005 accord and save more money. never know u might end up getting a higher end car than a 9th gen honda. or getting a 9th gen honda and modify it.

As much as enjoy driving my fathers 05 V6 6 speed coupe, i love the power, love the dash layout and build quality, I tend to like "bigger" cars with more interior space. I feel as though my 8th gen coupe is perfect for me even though I'm not a big guy at all 5'9. I usually only have one other person in the car, my finance 5'5, or my closest buddy who is 6'2 and they both feel ample room riding shotty. I actually can't recall anyone ever riding in my back seat. It's all a matter or preference though, as some may not like the added room of the 8th gen.

Not to mention I love the head and leg room for the driver in the 8th gen, 7th felt a little cramped to me, but better build, who knows what honda will do for the 9th gen...

Waiting is how I was leaning but I am having some issues.
The care was wrecked twice (not at fault either time, both minor). But because of this, I can no longer use auto car-washes, I get water intrusion AROUND the tail light.

I performed a front brake job at 48,000 miles, afterwards things there were perfect, after a couple thousand miles though, I get this extreme grinding noise especially when turning right, I think maybe the splash shield is rubbing my new rotors? Not sure.

And now I am due for rear pads as well

Also I have a vibration at 55-65 MPH, I didn't have it when new, and I need to get back to Tirebarn to get the tires ruled out as a cause then maybe see the dealership if the tires check out.

So lots of minor things, hence the tough decision.

Not to argue the point, but I am curious, how the new engine has more modern features, and decently increased compression but loses economy. I currently get city/hwy of 27/33. Economy had started to slip but an air filter change helped.

I'd go for it. Lifes short and waiting wont always get you the best. Do what will make YOU happy.

Heinz Ketchup would disagree.

Good things come to those who wait

I want to make one correct to my previous post, though I realize this is a GEN7 detail, sorry about that. The grinding is coming from the rear, sounds like a dead bearing moving forward, like a dying cow moving backwards, both sounds come from the rear, I'm sure it's the rear wear bar. Will swap the rear pads out soon. I still have the leak.

Will likely keep the car, at least until I have it fully paid off this summer. $1000 below invoice is awfully tempting, especially if I can talk them out of destination.

Thanks for your replies everyone, I appreciate it. I might even mention this to the salesman as a reason for not wanting to do it. If I am on a forum of die-hard Honda fans who mostly say don't bother, what does that say about the sell-a-bility of his product?

Small point, your numbers are correct, however, Accords have a 5 year run not 4 .:notworthy:wave:

I concur. If there's no urgency, sit tight for a bit.

Damn you guys. I think I will have to wait, I don't want a car worse than mine. My warranty has another year or two left (cannot remember my details but I know I extended it, they say they are bad, but everytime I have done an extension it has more than paid for ittself).

I should have mine paid off this summer. The engine and tranny seem sound. If I have it paid off, I can use some money to start saving toward a new car, also I can put fun things on mine.

This is off-topic but I am considering the 04-05 TSX intake manifold swap, but looking for definitive information that it makes any difference at all, everyone judges based on butt dyno, and I know that personally, I am one of the worst about feeling something is better due to effort, not due to actual result.

wait until the 05 is paid off, then use the trade as a down payment.

You do realize that the 9th Gen. may have it's own set of problems when it comes out, right? New isn't always better. Just look at all the problems us 8th Gen. drivers are experiencing. If a new model meant that a car would be an improvement over the previous model, then the 8th Gen should be substantially better the 7th Gen in every respect and it's not.

Just an update. I went to Honda today to get some brake fluid and inquire about ceramic brake pads. Got the fluid walked out to the lot, took a 09 Accord Sedan EX for a spin. Really didn't care for it. Car made a funny whiny noise like it had a tiny turbo hiding in it. Clutch was too light and had no physical feel. Car lacked any indication of a soul. Was very disappointed.

I think I will enjoy my upcoming payoff and roll on.

Does anyone know what they did to make the clutch so light and airy? I felt completely disconnected from the process of driving the manual. I didn't pop the hood to see if there really was a hydraulic reservior for the clutch, is there still or did they switch to some electric clutch-by-wire setup?

5 year run for the 6th and 7th gen.

4 year run for the 2nd thru 5th gen.

6 year run for the 1st gen.

I have an 07 and will keep it for as long as I can. Not a real big fan of the new Accord. Especially that body line on each side...Looks cheap reminds me of the hood grooves that were on the Chryler Crossfire hood.

The sides look real crappy for a couple hundred bucks you can BUY side molding that is standard on all other cars. Yeah, not impressive.
