I am gonna be selling my 2008 Honda Accord Coupe LX-S w/ a 5-spd manual trans....it is completely stock, just the factory spoiler & splash guards....car is flawless EXCEPT has minor curb rash on one of the wheels. It currently has 11k miles on it.

KBB lists the car privately in "GOOD" condition for $18,080........ I owe like $16,500, so I really am hoping to throw at least a grand into my savings..

I am selling & will be driving my parents extra car...a 07 jeep liberty until that lease is up (next April), then probably get a '10 Acura TSX or '10 Toyota 4Runner...

IMO you should be easily able to get $18k given the mileage is under 20,000 miles. Im in Chicago and I've seen a couple used ones go for that much + I think its because alot of ppl around here are hunting for accord coupes with a manual trans..

not to go off topic but y r u going for a tsx?

......my experience with Car Max, albeit out here - make that WAY OUT - on the left coast:

A. They offer you about half of what they plan as a selling price to a potential buyer.

B. Some time back - prior to my finding an Accord 6M brochure laying around somewhere - CarMax offered me $6500 for my pristine (but slow compared to the 6M) Solara V-6 5M.

C. I thanked them and asked for 15 or 20 minutes so I could take a walk (we do have beautiful weather out here on the left coast) and think about it prior to given them a yes or no.

D. I noted a similar car on the CarMax lot (sure - it had an automatic); price was circa $12,999 IIRC.

I thanked them for their professionalism and courtesy, (they DO run a classy operation) and went next door to a yuppie hangout, had a Crown Royal, watched some golf and sold my car to an old college buddy at the $6500 CarMax price. He sold it later - after tires, a timing belt, water pump et al installed - and still made money. Everyone's happy.

Good luck selling your car. If you've done this sort of thing before, you know a book could be written about the types of folks who come out of the woodwork.

best, ez....

A new 09 will go for around 19k. The used car market isn't so good right now with great deals on new cars available. 17k is a reasonable price. You can try higher and hope people don't know how much a new 09 would cost.

Post it at 18k or 18.5k to leave yourself room for the haggling. That way you can come out with 17 or 17.5k.
