I'll post up some pictures when I buy it, just thought I'd go ahead and start the thread now though. Hortonsmedia 06-01-2009, 11:07 PM Hell yeah I Like that car, not the best Color But I Like That Car 88AccordLX-i 06-01-2009, 11:26 PM Welcome! Sounds like you are getting yourself a sweet ride! Can't wait for some pics! A&Fbro28 06-01-2009, 11:42 PM Any plans or just a commuter car? There are a lot of part for the F-series motors out there cheap. JDMJohn 06-02-2009, 10:40 AM Oh yea I got some plans. This is going in it. http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/jdm_engine_details/143/Honda_Accord/Acura_3.0CL wardenr 06-02-2009, 03:26 PM JDMJohn: Which tranny will you be using? 4/5 AT or 5/6 speed manual? Whom is performing the swap? You and your buds? Or a shop? Before you start dropping cash, let me warn you in advance about the "BAXA," "MAXA," and (especially) the "B7XA" 4AT units typically used on the "J-series" V6 engines. They are all "ticking, time bombs." They are seriously failure prone, regardless of mileage and/or hours of service. Hopefully you can fit it with a six-speeder out of some Acura. Should not be that terribly difficult since you indicate your car is a man trans setup to begin with. Might be a "kicker" with some of the electrics (ECU, wiring harnesses, etc.). And since that "J30" + tranny weighs some 600+ pounds, I suspect a ton of suspension mods will be necessary. JDMJohn 06-03-2009, 01:35 PM Yea I've been doing alot of searching on that engine...and it looks like that isn't a very good swap to do. So now I'm looking at either H22a's or a F22A6. It'll be me and my buddies doing the swap, so hopefully everything goes okay. Here's a picture of the car. http://i42.tinypic.com/rc4u35.jpg wardenr 06-03-2009, 08:34 PM JDMJohn: I think you are now on a better track. I believe you'd be better served with another I4 swap, such as the H22 or F22 motor you suggest. A "B-Series" swap is also very popular, given an abundance of aftermarket, high-performance hardware. (However, I can suppose one drawback to the "B" (and "A") engines is additional weight, given their cast-iron blocks. Beginning in 1990, ALL Honda engines are aluminum head-aluminum block design.) HMC produces a lot of wonderful "Fours" which are quite strong, in terms of BHP and torque, against most any of the "J-Series" V6 engines. Quick example given: The K20A2 engine, used in the 2002-2004 Acura RSX "Type S" produces 200 bhp @ 7,400 rpm and 146 lbs/ft. of torque. While my J30A1 (3-Liter V6) produces some 195 lbs./ft. of torque, it is rated at the SAME bhp...as in only 200 @ a leisurely 5,500 rpm. Honda's I4 engines are still a most excellent choice, perhaps now more than ever. Compact, light weight, and so many directions you can go with them, respective to high-performance modifications... JDMJohn 06-03-2009, 09:23 PM Yeah, I was thinking B-series as well, but I didn't know if Accords were heavy cars or not so I thought it'd be a waste or not. Lol I don't know, I guess I don't know exactly what I want yet. lpaudio2 06-04-2009, 06:08 AM clean car. Nice to see a 4th gen without the typical rear wheel rust! Im assuming your somewhere south of the rust belt? wardenr 06-04-2009, 12:05 PM JDMJohn: At one of our local "Ricer" shops, this young fellow has a 1991 Civic Hatchback, fitted with a JDM "B20" engine. Turbo, with NOx, and 9:1 compression, it dynos around 550 bhp. Main problem is, it constantly blows head gaskets...and BREAKS head bolts! If you build a "Frankenstein" motor, select your hardware very CAREFULLY! JDMJohn 06-04-2009, 12:17 PM Well whatever I get, I'm not gonna put a shot of anything in it lol. And to lpaudio2, I live in Memphis, we hardly get snow here lol. ShagginWaggin 06-05-2009, 11:13 AM nice pick up. JDMJohn 06-08-2009, 07:54 PM Well the guy told me that it was an Ex, but I thought they came with sunroofs? AMAN1 08-27-2009, 06:51 PM Have you considered a K-swap? Any cosmetic modifications? Looks like you could clean it up a bit. Nice pickup though  favorite generation after my own(7th) fireballer44 08-27-2009, 07:33 PM Had a 1991, mine was 95% stock but they are very nice driving cars with good handling regardless of what engine. H22 swaps are supposed to be very easy and you can keep the stock transmission or if you want to go all out I think the one from the Type-SH Prelude will go in there. I've even seen some of the old 4th gen Accord's stripped down and set up for Autocross. They are not too heavy, have excellent suspension, and you can swap into them so easy. Good luck... nusdogg 08-27-2009, 10:07 PM I'd say B-Series has no torque at all to pull the heavy 4th Gen+ Accords. H & F Series are the way to go. Boost is even better; especially, when the F22's got iron sleeve. Good luck on your build and keep us posted. BrianMassie 09-05-2009, 07:52 PM A B-swap would be a pain and a waste. A good choice to save wiring issues would be the F22B DOHC. 160 hp stock that responds well to modifications. Uses stock motor mounts in the 90-3 chassis and can be had shipped for under $700 if you shop around. |
