What type of speaker are the OEM's in the rear deck. Is it dual cone :thumbsdow Co-axial  or tri-axial. I know they are Pioneer's. Just too lazy to look. Thought someone might know.

Likely they are the same speakers that I took out of the rear deck in my 03 Accord. If that's true, then they are single cone, full-range Pioneer speakers. They do have a "whizzer" cone in the center that is supposed to help with high frequency detail however, I have yet to see any real specs on those things actually improving the sound of anything.

I replaced my rear speakers with JBL GTO936 6x9" 3-ways. They made a huge sound improvement.

I replaced the front's with Infinity Reference 6.5" 2-ways. I forget the model number but the current model is the REF6012I. My model has apparently been recently discontinued. My front speakers have the rotatable tweeters so that they can be angled up towards the listener for better sound. They also made a huge improvement over the stock speakers.

For instructions on how to mount the speakers, check out this thread...http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2722
I wrote up detailed installation instructions that should apply to all 2003-2005 model Accord sedans.

Edit to add: I noted in that other thread that my rear's are powered by an amp. This is not necessary and my rear speakers actually sound perfectly fine when directly connected to the rear speaker harness. I had to remove my sub to make room for family luggage on a summer trip and just connected the rear speakers direct. They sound perfectly fine and even a little bit warmer and more natural. The downside is that I don't have any of the real deep bass (30-40Hz) without the sub, but the rear speakers have enough bass to still sound natural down to about 60 Hz or so.

Jeff I have found a pair of the JBL 6x9 that you used for about $90 including shipping. Is that a good deal? Was there any problem with the speakers being to deep and hitting anything?

Thanks in advance

I guess that's a good deal. The MSRP on them is $150 so if you can find them for less, it's agood thing. If the merchant is reputable, then I would say go for it.

The speakers hang down into the trunk so they can be as deep as you want. The only time they would hit anything is if you have a lot of stuff in the trunk. You can open the trunk and see the stock speakers inside it. The new ones only hang down about an inch or so lower.

I too will eventually upgrade my speakers and likely add a small powered sub for some punch.

Having said that I am still impressed how well the stock speakers sound in the 7th generation sedan. They improved in bass response as they "broke in". Are they killer? No of course not but they are quite satisfying for stock cheapies even at high volume.

I agree - I think the stock speakers sound pretty decent, although I know an upgrade would improve things. I will eventualy upgrade, but for now these will do. I am impressed with the bass they put out - it almost feels like there is a small subwoofer in there somewhere. Apparantly the speakers are Pioneer, according to other posts. What about the head unit - what do we know about that (who makes it, power output, etc.)? Thanks.

Could be Alpine or Pioneer. The EX is 120 watts total.

A friend brought by her new Neon for us to look over the other day. Man, those have come a long way. It drove well, cornered well, the seats were comfy, it was quiet, and it had good zip. The thing that blew me away was the sound system had a Kicker sub in the trunk. It absolutely kicked butt!!
I couldn't believe it and it was only a $495 (list) option. Even with the sub off it sounded better than mine GRRR..

HONDA - Pay attention here!
