I doubt if anyone here would be worried about this, but it's good to know. California cracks down (http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/05/576.asp)

I saw that on the news too! Plus every day now they're patrolling a different highway for speeders. Our local Fox news lets out the info each morning.... could be helpful!

They can patrol the freeways & NOT catch me!!! I do 99% of my driving in town.....thus the "wonderful" gas mileage! I think this tank is at 16.3..... :naughty: I didn't know a size 2.5 foot could be sooooo heavy!!! :dunno:

My prince had a few of those "fix-it" tickets on his 442..... his neighbor turned him in all the time!

Good.

Hopefully that will get rid of some of the ricers and make them realize how truly ridiculous they are.

I don't know what they'd call them....but I've heard some pretty awful sounding ones!! I like low rumbly exhaust closer to the old V8's....not the whiny kind!

I'm not entirely sure what to think of this one...

I grew up in Mass where they regulate all things automotive. And now I'm in East Tenn where not much gets regulated. So I've seen both sides.

This is the excerpt from the article that got me thinking:

Drivers of stock vehicles that come from the factory with some of the characteristics of modified cars have experienced harassment under this provision.

I guess the article is referring to cars like an STi or an Evo? Those are some big azz (as the kids say) spoilers on the back. I know I wouldn't be too happy if I coughed up $32,000 for an Evo and then got pulled over for having that parking-bench spoiler bolted to the trunk. ('Course, if I had an Evo - which I would love to drive - I wouldn't order the spoiler.)

I wonder if S2000 folks fall in here too. You gotta wind that engine way up and it isn't all that quiet at the high revs.

What I think has happened is that auto manufacturers are emulating the ricers. They realize that if it looks ricey it will sell. I mean, have you seen the wing spoiler on the new 2006 Civic Si???

Yeah me too. A deep, throaty, muscular V8 always sounds better than a farting civic.

Heck

Let them drive what ever they want. I kinda like the ricers when there true ricers. A 500 hp civic is way cool!!! Would I drive one,,, naw. Just goes to show what can be done. A buddy of mine has a 600 hp solaris,,, his daily driver. To each there own. They want a huge wing so be it. American are getting to uptight. Propley one of many reasons must of the world hates us. Say one thing and do another.

As for cali and speeding. Just away for the state and locals to make money up that they already waiste in that over taxed place. But it wont slow one person down at all....

Hmm.

The problem is that the ricers often accompany their mods with extremely careless driving. Most ricers are just wannabees. They put all sorts of ridiculous stuff on their cars and no HP to back it up. Yet they still drive so carelessly.

I agree people should be able to drive what they want but not when they endanger the public.

VTECaddict

body kits and wings arent the problem, and they arent illegal. what usually comes along with "riced out" cars are illegal engine modifications (custom turbos, nitrous, etc.) and like EXLNavi said, careless/reckless driving.

SWATaccord

its not all the ricers its just the newer guys.......they think because they have a muffler they can kik the peddle down and they have 500hp ......so they rev on everybody and disrespect everybody.......when i drive i cruise i cant go 1 day without 3 cars reving at me like were racing indy or something....i hate it the most when there not even going the same way down the street and they rev......its funny when you pull up next to the same car later in the day and there afraid to look at you

I'm totally against this. If you think about it, they're just reducing your liberties little by little and we're all sitting by and watching it happen. Besides that, I can see evidence of it being a crime to "drive while Asian." My friends have gotten harassed from driving nice cars. The cop stopped a friend of mine in a Lancer Evolution for nearly an hour and would not believe that a turbo came stock on the car. Uhhh....yeah....

I will say that if California is willing to spend the money to take the issue seriously, I will support this law. I am not going to accept police officers that don't believe turbos actually come stock on cars. Bentleys, Rolls-Royce, Saab, etc all have turbos and I wouldn't say they're ricers. I will not accept the useless $35 inspection because the cops said so. The inspection fee should be waived if you pass; after all, why should I pay for a dickhead moron's bad day? I do like the regulations on exhaust noise and how low a car can be. I'm sick of fart cans, whistling exhausts and ruts from low cars.

It is a shame. Cali just keeps going down hill. Hell the whole country for that matter. A poster here said they where from Mass. And they regulate everything automotive. But not in e. Tenn.

The cops profile all the time and whinner babys want the gov. to do everything for them. This stupid county I live in is democrat and these folks think the gov. should do everything for them. And they profile something awful. Take this weekend. Its black rodeo weekend here one of the largist of the black rodeos in the country and one hell of a great party if it was anywhere but this racist town. Coming in last night from Tulsa there where cops pullling cars over everywhere. Of the ones we saw being pulled over for the life of me I couldnt see why. They where just profiling and harrassing folks. Made me want to shot cops. And its the same thing when we have the indian rodeo and the creek indian festival. Then the white folks have the pecan festival and its a real snore, but the cops are out doing there best to be little nazi type types. I feel sorry for the blacks when its rodeo time there really abused IMO.

I guess the point of this ramble is >>> watch the law makers and take control before your taken control of. The West and Northeast are already nothing but little dens of socalism as is and its spreading. Even in little rual oklahoma as by example of this weekend here. There little invasions on our privcey and rights shows once there in and have the support of afew mentaly ill rich folks. People can be trampled on any chance they can get. When we drove into town lastnight I pulled my colt 45 auto out and layed it on my lap as we drove thru town. The sheer visual impact of these fools gone rampit scared everybody in our car. ( and I do have a conceal and carry permit. ) I dont trust the local democrate gov. nor do I trust there idiot cops. And if I was on the west or east coast I would be terrified!!!

As for that Cali law. What about the low riders? How about the bikers, what about the desert rats? What about the high speed motorcycles? How about the hypermilers? And that little old lady in Pasadena? And the poor ricers.

The repercusions of the cops behavior this weekend here in Okmulgee will go on for months. The cost in court actions will be staggering. The public relations between the blacks, city fathers and cops will take yet another step backwards. But you cant tell the college grad idiots that run the town this.

Ive aready emailed city hall with my familys feelings on this weekends activitys. I will be at the next city concil meeting. It got so bad here one time with the crap the city was trying to do there where gun battles at city concil meeting. I fear the rights striping democrats will have that problem again around here real soon.

Too bad your friend didn't show him the owner's manual. It probably mentions the turbo in there somewhere.

Wow! 5 mil for an "undercover drag-net unit" to harass ricers???!!! Thats just what a state on the verge of bankruptcy needs. Nevermind the horrific traffic congestion due to lack of roads! Nevermind the fact that our schools are overcrowded and kids are testing very low against the national average! Nevermind that we have to close major trauma centers and hospitals due to lack of funds! Nevermind that Los Angeles does not have enough police officers and violent crime is escalating rapidly! We need an undercover RICE PATROL!!!

There's nothing thats even new with this law. I used to be into the import performance scene and many guys were getting pulled over just for having "wheels that are too big" or for being lowered, or having a loud exhaust and the cops would ask them to open the hood and inspect their engines. Then they would issue fix-it tickets if they saw anything out of the ordinary. Sometimes it didn't matter if the CARB sticker was in plain view showing that the mod was legal! This sort of thing has been going on for years.

Yea that is just blatant disregard for others. I know all too well because the guy across the street used to leave for work on his hog at 3am. Dam thing was so loud that if he revs it enough it sets off car alarms.

I agree that loud pipes save lives, however, most people getting loud pipes aren't doing it for safety.

I'm not entirely against loud pipes but I'd like to see a little common courtesy, ya know? There was one place I lived where these guys would come rumbling down the street with harleys at 2AM (sometimes > 100MPH) when I have to sleep to get up and go to work the next morning. They were so LOUD they'd set off car alarms for blocks!!

I like bikes (hence the "M" on my license) and I think loud pipes on an open highway do no one any harm. Or even on regular streets during decent hours. But not when everyone is sleeping. Jeez...
