I've had hard/baked on water spots on my hood since the first month of owning my car. At first there were only a few on the upper corners where water can kind of pool up. Now they are everywhere. They are on the front fenders, covering the hood, front bumper and even some on the door. I've heard that Honda paint is really thin.. should I be able to take it back and say WTF and have them do something about it..
I highly doubt these spots are from when I wash the car because I always wash it at dusk and use the Cali wiper blade to get the bulk of the water off. To clean up the rest I either use Micro towels or terry cloth. I wash it usually once or twice a week, including during the winter. I love my coupe but I'm at a loss of what to do.. Some say to clay bar and some say to polish. I heard someone say to mix in vinegar. I really want to get these spots out before summer is in full swing as I don't want to wax over the spots but I want to protect it from getting more.. Input please?

Waterspot are usually due to hardness in the water. Are you using a water softner?

A good polishing will take those out. But yes, hard water stains are a PITA.

use a very alkalinic or basic washing solution, such as detergent even, just on the water spot areas. then, as brucelroy suggests, claybar & polish/protect from future reclaimed water sprinkler heads that are aimed everywhere but the grass.

Most polishes that are made for clear coat scratches will remove them. Try and find one that seals too if you do it yourself. The sealer is key to keeping the water spots to a min. The stuff in the orange squeeze tube is the best off the shelf stuff I have found, but I cant remember the name darn it. Start with the LEAST abrasive polish/ wax you can find and work your way up the abrasive scale. This will keep the swirls down. Unfortunetly for you, BBP seems to be the hardest color to keep the clear coat nice as far as the coupe colors go. I would have a pro polish and SEAL it for ya. It will keep the clear coat from scratching and soaking up the water spots.

I do, I use a spray detail type wax on a micro fiber. Just spray on the micro and wipe till it evaporates. Do it in the shade so it don't haze on ya.. It works the same as rain X.

I usually rinse the car with DI water to get off most of the hard water. I get water spots if I don't rinse the car with DI water even if I hand dry the car. Clay bar has never removed water spots on any of my cars before. An abrasive polish would get rid of those baked on water spots. My 97 Accord had some water spots from over 2yrs ago. I finally decided to remove them along with the swirls and light scratches on my car last weekend with ScratchX 2.0. Easily took off the water spots and swirls but really had to work it in to remove the scratches. BTW, you can still get water spots even after waxing the car.

http://ep.yimg.com/ip/I/autogeek_2059_12887261I dont know what detailing abilitys or equipment you have so I`ll try to keep it easy. First and for most stop using the Cali water blade and terry cloth. Get your self some good Micro fiber towels or cloths. You want to use the least abrassive method to removing defects and Meguires makes a few consumer products that work real well. Scratch-X 2.0, Swirl-X and Ultimate Compound all work very well. I would try out the Swirl-X on all the water spots. After the spots are gone I would wash the whole car then clay, then polish then wax 2X. At this point if you get any more water spots they will be easy to remove.
