I plugged in my (1st gen) iphone and received the following message:

"This accessory was not made to work with iPhone"

GAH.
I updated to the latest firmware on their site before installing and everything. Anyone run into this at all?

if it asks you to place it into airplane mode just say no and keep the phone on...the phone is made that way to prevent interference and produce high quality sound...it'll still work but when you drive around you might hear feedback every so often =T

me...i just keep my iphone in my pocket and leave the btooth on for calls...and have a seperate ipod video for my musical needs =)

Make sure your iPhone has the latest software installed. Per Crutchfield's research, it is compatible with iPhone and iPhone 3G. Also make sure your iPhone is on the Home screen and not in a locked mode before plugging it in. When you plug it in, you will get a warning about an accessory plugged in, and to activate airplane mode. You can pick yes or no. Once it initializes, it should to go a white screen with an iPod icon stating Accessory Connected. Then you can operate it through your stereo. You might as well turn on Airplane Mode because the accessory mode hijacks the iPhone and I don't think you can receive a call. But it should work.

I use an iPod Classic for my musical needs as well.

Well in good news, it works. Operator error. I have to hit XM and then the Category buttons to change the input to iPod.

Bad news is that the only way to get podcasts working is as follows:

The Podcasts are only accessible when you tune to aux1 mode (direct control from the iPod).

So... I'm considering selling this thing and looking for a better solution.

EDIT:
Just got off the phone with crutchfield. There IS no better solution due to having the built-in navi system.

I'm a touch pissed off right now. The guy said essentially that the only way to go aftermarket for my car right now is to somehow replace EVERYTHING in the center of my dash with the non-navi unit which would require a significant investment of money for the parts alone, and then hopefully someone would buy the navi system / stereo from me. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Why don't you create a PLAYLIST of Podcasts, then you can choose that playlist from the stereo to hear your podcasts. I would think that would work. Crutchfield is full of shit, which I am surprised. They sell the USASpec unit that is compatible with your Accord with Nav. Of course you would still have to try that Playlist trick.

I have the factory Nav and I have the Dice Silverline iPod kit and it works great. However, if you want text display, you must disconnect XM. I have an '03 Accord without XM, but I have an '04 Nav head unit that is XM-Ready, so operating the Dice Silverline in XM mode is no loss for me since I don't have an XM tuner. I don't listen to podcasts, so I haven't tried my suggestion. If it doesn't work, then you would have to switch it to Aux1 and use the headphone out so you can control the iPhone manually.

I would just hit the XM button and then scroll over to AUX1 when you want to listen to podcasts. You won't get the information displayed on the navi screen but you will be able to hear the podcasts. Then just switch back to iPod when you want to listen to music. All of the systems have limitations.

Selling your stock navi system will be hard since whoever buys it will need to make a custom harness. Most people won't see the point in it when they can buy a double din aftermarket navi unit with iPod control, bluetooth, HD Radio, and DVD playback for less than $1k. If you want to go the aftermarket head unit route it would probably be cheaper to just trade in your car and get a non-navi one depending on how much it costs to change out the center of the dash including the upper display and all of the A/C controls. I also don't know if the A/C control harnesses are the same and if not you will have to swap out harnesses or make your own.

Solved the Podcast issue.

This should work on any iPod Connection kit that allows you to choose a playlist from the stereo. Create a new Playlist in iTunes, and call it Podcasts (Unless you have a USASpec which requires playlists with specific names). Drag your favorite Podcast files into the new playlist. Get Info on all Podcasts in the new Playlist. Click on the Options tab and uncheck the box "Skip when Shuffling." Click OK. Sync your iPod or iPhone to transfer the podcast files and the newly created playlist.

Plug the iPod into your vehicle. Turn on your stereo and follow the directions on Playlist selection based on your specific iPod Connection Kit. Find the Podcast playlist and enjoy your favorite podcasts! Don't worry, the iPod will resume playback where you left off. Also, you can skip to the next podcast with your stereo controls since you unchecked the box to skip when shuffling. When you want to resume music, just pick one of your music playlists.

I just did it with my Dice Silverline iPod kit and it worked like a charm. With full text display, I pressed Preset 2 for Playlist selection and spun my tuning knob until Podcasts appeared on my Nav screen. The first podcast started playing, with text display on the screen. I hit track skip and it went to the next Podcast in the Playlist. I am sure it would also play audio from video podcasts too if you add them to the playlist.

At least with this solution, you can control Podcasts just like you would any music playlist without having to switch to Aux1 and connect via headphone out.

When you select Aux1 on the iSimple/Peripheral Electronics/PAC unit you don't have to connect via the headphone out. It still sends the data through the dock connector but you control it via the iPod wheel instead of the head unit.

That is a good feature. All others do not offer that. The Aux is a standard miniplug input so you would have to use the headphone out if going through Aux on the other brands.

Yeah, JoeMama's method is the way I use it. I've also noticed now that when I don't have an ipod plugged in, I get a weird clicking sound coming from my speakers when I listen to anything else. THAT'S annoying as hell. Probably something nearby to the PXAMG unit is just interfering. Might wrap it in aluminum foil or something. :)

Oh that sucks. If I don't have my iPod, there is no interference (if you are experiencing interference and not a defective unit). If I try to select the iPod, the display says Detached.

Hm. Might have to give the manufacturer another jingle.
