So my younger brother has a 2000 civic value package that's been a good workhorse. Very reliable, yadda yadda.
Long story short, he had his stereo ripped out a while back, and the thieves ripped a LOT of his dash apart. Now, his car's not really worth enough to bother throwing a lot of money into it with new OEM parts unless they're cheap, so we're not looking in that direction.
Does anyone have any good suggestions for the best sources for used parts for Civics (beyond the obvious of Ebay, of course)? Thanks in advance!

That stinks. Use car-part.com to search salvage yards near your zip.

I ditto with Cajun.
If you're looking for the cheapest way out...call/hit your local salvage yards. You should be able to snag a decent dash unit for ~$75-$100. As you've already figured out, the R&R labor is the "Biotch" part. Hopefully, you and your younger brother can DIY...

We can most certainly DIY. How hard is it to install a Honda dash after all? :) I ripped my 09 dash apart to install my PXAMG and did a pretty good job of it - and a civic should be about the same deal, right?

Hmmmm. HOW do I answer your question...since I am not specifically familiar with the dashboard in a 2000 Civic?
While I would NOT want to tackle it in either of my cars, most any dashboard is a fairly-straightforward procedure. Lots of nuts, bolts, screws, clips, and various other fasteners...usually involving a lot of TIME...and PATIENCE...for R&R.
Since you indicate you've been inside your '09, you likely won't encounter many (if any) difficulities with your brother's Civic. It's a lot cheaper to pay yourself than pay any shop to do it! Plus, you know exactly what you have...when you get done! :D

And honestly, there's the other aspect: Even if we screw up royally, we still have a car without a dash. :) I already told him that we might just want to kill ourselves while doing it, and he's into trying.

If your interested, I have the stock CD player from my 2000 Civic EX that I just sold the other week. I have been trying to sell it on craigslist for $50 if you needed it.

Thanks -he has an aftermarket stereo ready to go, just needs the dash. I'll try to get pics of it today from him.
