so i offered to paint my buddies rims today. he has a blue 08 accord coupe and wanted to paint his stock rims, black with a blue lip. also used some blue h decals from grafixpressions.com. let me know what you think, it was the first time and i think it turned out pretty good. sorry for the cr*ppy pics, not the best camera but it works sometimes.

The rims look good but I would have painted the calipers black, instead of blue.

Thanks for posting bro. Personally no way in hell I'd make painting wheels a weekend DIY – I'd leave that to the pros lol. I mean you can tell how uneven that blue is hahah

I'm definitely not doing this on my stock rims, but I keep seeing more and more BBP Accords with Black rims that I love the look of, and I actually think this looks pretty damn nice. I'll most likely be getting some black Tenzos if I ever find the money for it in the future.

Looks like he's riding on blackies now. The centercaps are offblack compared to the rims. I'm not a fan of the blue lip. But other than that, nice.

Yeah...the masking job was bad, the blue lip doesn't seem even. He should of taken off the tires. It seems like they didn't do layers of light coats for the black part of the rims.

The paint will probably chip after the first few highway trips too. They should at least paint the lugs blue now...

I think I kind of like it. Though the quality of the job is probably anything but spectacular.

dont like it but if you are going to do it at least do it right. you should paint the wheels a nice even black and then just use this sticker

I'd pay the 300ish and get it professionally powder coated.

Something tells me that this has the potential to look good (albeit not anything I would ever do-I prefer strictly OEM), but this example doesn't. In a high contrast situation (i.e. silver or white), this could look good. But it would need to be done professionally.

Way to ruin $2000 worth of Honda aluminum :thumbsdow

IF...... and that's a big IF I wanted my rims to be a different color, I would send them to a pro. Half the battle of a good paint job is prep, which, in most professional applications, means removing the tire from the rim, cleaning, priming, and doing all the things necessary to make sure the paint or powder coat adheres evenly, properly, and stays on for good.

This is what happens when kids have nothing better to do with their time.

-You know, I hate the look of those stock I4coupe 17" wheels, so something had to be done---If you CLEARCOAT the wheels w/FLAT CLEAR(over the black), It would make the Black more uniform & of course, more durable...but you knew that.
It's not as bad as some think, just cover in FLAT CLEAR & maybe, just maybe, cover the blue stripe w/black----pictures can be deceiving & the wheels might look alot better in person, maybe.
A 'uniform' flat finish would help. Forget trying to make the finish SHINEY, that's for the pro's, or the powdercoat shop---you could deffinately do a FLAT finish at home. & at least ya gave it a shot!! That's how poeple learn, from making mistakes, fixing the mistakes, & moving on---I give you KUDOS for trying!!

rockman
06-28-2009, 07:57 PM
-ALSO, if ya just cant fix the finish---you can get PAINT remover(in a spray can) & spray the rims, wait 5 to 10 min., & rinse w/hose....no more paint.
Of course you'll remove wheels BEFORE spraying paintremover(that stuff'll eat the finish off ANYTHING, including the SKIN ON YOUR BODY!!)

People paint their rims and while it's a cheaper way it's definitely an option.

In regards to the blue lip, I'm just not really feeling it. From the pics its definitely clear that it's not straight because that's HARD to paint on straight. If going for a colored painted "lip" it's probably best to just use some rim tape similar to what's used on sportbikes, etc instead of trying to paint it.
