View Full Version : Painted Rims black with a blue lip.
Honda247 06-27-2009, 07:45 PM so i offered to paint my buddies rims today. he has a blue 08 accord coupe and wanted to paint his stock rims, black with a blue lip. also used some blue h decals from grafixpressions.com. let me know what you think, it was the first time and i think it turned out pretty good. sorry for the cr*ppy pics, not the best camera but it works sometimes.

Not mine BTW. Saw this on another site. I didn't paint these at all. I don't even know these guys.......
kingjames 06-27-2009, 07:50 PM looks pretty nice, i have that same accord and same color
J_Honda14 06-27-2009, 07:57 PM No.
85gp4 06-27-2009, 07:58 PM The rims look good but I would have painted the calipers black, instead of blue.
blacklisted 06-27-2009, 08:10 PM Thanks for posting bro. Personally no way in hell I'd make painting wheels a weekend DIY – I'd leave that to the pros lol. I mean you can tell how uneven that blue is hahah
Honda247 06-27-2009, 08:29 PM When i saw this I was like, Hell No.:thumbsdow But I thought I would post it here if any1 here was looking at doing this they have an idea what it looks like. Again its not my car so you guys can be as harsh as you want.
GTFan712 06-27-2009, 08:49 PM I'm definitely not doing this on my stock rims, but I keep seeing more and more BBP Accords with Black rims that I love the look of, and I actually think this looks pretty damn nice. I'll most likely be getting some black Tenzos if I ever find the money for it in the future.

Kayzle 06-27-2009, 09:53 PM I dont like this at all, just being honest
Drowzee 06-27-2009, 10:02 PM Looks like he's riding on blackies now. The centercaps are offblack compared to the rims. I'm not a fan of the blue lip. But other than that, nice.
woody4364 06-27-2009, 10:07 PM OMG WTF! hahahaha That is horrible! Those two have too much time on there hands. Did they get tired of the XBOX???????
vadimk 06-27-2009, 10:12 PM meh... not impressed
listen to remix 06-28-2009, 04:11 AM Yeah...the masking job was bad, the blue lip doesn't seem even. He should of taken off the tires. It seems like they didn't do layers of light coats for the black part of the rims.
Skalipaloo 06-28-2009, 05:40 AM The paint will probably chip after the first few highway trips too. They should at least paint the lugs blue now...
chaqui74 06-28-2009, 05:50 AM You need to take better/clear pics . Car looks to dark
nycoupe08 06-28-2009, 06:47 AM looks like a TL type S

Haha I didn't take the pics......
I think I kind of like it. Though the quality of the job is probably anything but spectacular.
bruceleroy 06-28-2009, 09:51 AM dont like it but if you are going to do it at least do it right. you should paint the wheels a nice even black and then just use this sticker

Interesting stickers.
nikosnoopy 06-28-2009, 11:42 AM looks nice, but if i think it look better if a clear coat was spray on top
Artie 06-28-2009, 12:48 PM Congrats on screwing up your car.
Have any more bright ideas?
jeffreyhuhn 06-28-2009, 12:53 PM pass.
mdaja 06-28-2009, 01:16 PM not bad, i think it looks kind of nice, but i would never do that myself...haha
whitefury21 06-28-2009, 03:30 PM looks alright.
i doubt anyone is going to look up close to check out the quality of paint on your wheels
Danielc409 06-28-2009, 03:40 PM I'd pay the 300ish and get it professionally powder coated.
bok269 06-28-2009, 05:34 PM Something tells me that this has the potential to look good (albeit not anything I would ever do-I prefer strictly OEM), but this example doesn't. In a high contrast situation (i.e. silver or white), this could look good. But it would need to be done professionally.

fastball 06-28-2009, 06:32 PM Way to ruin $2000 worth of Honda aluminum :thumbsdow
IF...... and that's a big IF I wanted my rims to be a different color, I would send them to a pro. Half the battle of a good paint job is prep, which, in most professional applications, means removing the tire from the rim, cleaning, priming, and doing all the things necessary to make sure the paint or powder coat adheres evenly, properly, and stays on for good.
This is what happens when kids have nothing better to do with their time.
qwerty0092 06-28-2009, 06:34 PM actually. i like the look of that. although it wasn't carefullly done. if it was, it'd be good.
noname 06-28-2009, 06:58 PM looks too cheap. it degrades the car.
08accordv6 06-28-2009, 07:30 PM i hope your buddy is not on this forums to read the comments lol
Honda247 06-28-2009, 07:46 PM Came from another forum........
rockman 06-28-2009, 07:49 PM -You know, I hate the look of those stock I4coupe 17" wheels, so something had to be done---If you CLEARCOAT the wheels w/FLAT CLEAR(over the black), It would make the Black more uniform & of course, more durable...but you knew that.
It's not as bad as some think, just cover in FLAT CLEAR & maybe, just maybe, cover the blue stripe w/black----pictures can be deceiving & the wheels might look alot better in person, maybe.
A 'uniform' flat finish would help. Forget trying to make the finish SHINEY, that's for the pro's, or the powdercoat shop---you could deffinately do a FLAT finish at home. & at least ya gave it a shot!! That's how poeple learn, from making mistakes, fixing the mistakes, & moving on---I give you KUDOS for trying!!
rockman 06-28-2009, 07:57 PM -ALSO, if ya just cant fix the finish---you can get PAINT remover(in a spray can) & spray the rims, wait 5 to 10 min., & rinse w/hose....no more paint.
Of course you'll remove wheels BEFORE spraying paintremover(that stuff'll eat the finish off ANYTHING, including the SKIN ON YOUR BODY!!)
blackv6 06-29-2009, 12:03 AM sorry not digging it
Kromax 06-29-2009, 03:44 AM Uh, no.
HereforInfo 06-29-2009, 05:19 AM some things are better not done by yourself...:)
Throwdown 06-29-2009, 05:36 AM People paint their rims and while it's a cheaper way it's definitely an option.
In regards to the blue lip, I'm just not really feeling it. From the pics its definitely clear that it's not straight because that's HARD to paint on straight. If going for a colored painted "lip" it's probably best to just use some rim tape similar to what's used on sportbikes, etc instead of trying to paint it.
jarrod2k5 06-29-2009, 11:22 AM Idk hard to say if good or not? As long as you like it
