There are indicators on the side of the jug to tell you where the 1/2 quart is. You need to check the dipstick anyway after the change. As long as it isn't too much over the top hole you are ok but really you should only put in 4.5. But there are markers on the side of the bottle to tell you where each quart is. Is it really worth it to you to put an extra 1/2 quart into your engine and cause a risk of damaging your engine even if the risk is very very low? If you don't want to keep that extra 1/2 quart, dump your used oil back in there and take it to a recycling center. Sparky 07-10-2009, 09:00 AM I pour some of the leftover 1/2 qt after I drain my oil to get more of the used oil out. Just did my oil change over the weekend and I put in a bit under 4 1/2 qt.
