"Many critics say GM is in bad shape now because it never fixed the problems that put it near bankruptcy in 1992. The main issue never resolved, they argue, was not how to design more attractive products or cope with legacy costs, but how to compete effectively with highly global Japanese auto makers, Toyota in particular."

How about too many cookie cutter cars branded with a different name....... IMHO

"...some analysts believe the company (Toyota) could slip past GM and become the world's leading auto maker as early as 2007 or 2008. At a January news conference, GM CEO Rick Wagoner ruled out that possibility. “We've been ahead for 73 years in a row. I think the betting is we'll be ahead for another 73 years.""

Hi All:

___It is the arrogance of Rick Wagoner that will kill GM given the above. He should be running GM like it IS ON ITS LAST BREATH right now and maybe, just maybe, god willing they will continue to be a viable car/truck manufacturer far into the future. With what they have on the table now and well into the foreseeable future, they are headed down the wrong path with relatively heavy, rear wheel drive platforms in their next gen of automobiles that will supposedly be their saving grace … We will see if PO is actually upon us and how a 20 - 30 mpg sedan will be the last thing America purchases no matter the incentive or giveaway attached.

___This guy ticks me off given all that GM was and could be :(

___Good Luck
